Hi all,
If it's available in your area, DHL is the shipper of choice now a
days. And more importantly in most cases they will come to your door
for pick-ups at no cost. I sent a large package weighing 53 lbs. for a
cost of only $37.00 from OR to Eastern TX. Ground transport in 4 days.
You can set up an account and pay by check, cash; CC can only be done
through the billing process , for all three ways you must know the
weight, and 3 demeitions, pay the driver at pick-up. The driver has no
way to do weight or do measurements at your door. They will bill you if
you do not have info, so you must trust them. I find they are reliable
in that regard.

  Try them.
By the way, that 53 pound package if it would have gone UPS would
have cost me $87.00, Fed/Ex was only $63.00. The choice is clear in my
mind!!

Re: [RCSE] Shipping to Canada - WAS: Vender Disappointment

2006-01-09 Thread lomcovak
Sorry Dan, my error. I see "red" whenever I read "UPS".

The postal services between our two countries is pretty good compared to the
alternatives. In fact, if the value is less than $50CAN, it gets a free ride to
our door.

NAFTA ensures that the paperwork going in either direction is similar, so it
should be no more difficult to ship something north than it does south. The
problem is on our end, as on top of the 7% customs and duties, there is another
7% Goods and Services tax thanks to our wonderful Canadian government, then
come thosee "special" charges from the gougers like UPS.

Add to this that our customs dept is poorly staffed to accomodate the volume of
material crossing into Canada, and it makes for some rather colorful
conversation from recipients across the board (from us modelers - to the rather
large shipping operation of our GPS products at work).

Re: [RCSE] Shipping to Canada - WAS: Vender Disappointment

2006-01-09 Thread Dan Kitching
Oh yeah, all the rules. Address must me in caps, and contents must be
listed on the way bill.
Once the package crosses the border, tracking no longer works day by
day, but it's then only matter of a day or two. The tracking# will let
you know that the package has been delivered.

Sorry I'm getting steamed about this, but it's infuriating to attempt to
spend money at a retailer in the US only to be told they don't ship to
Canada "because it's too problematic". It's pure laziness. Refusal to
address the label in caps, and a lack of willingness to spend an extra 2
minutes at the post office to fill out a way bill. Other than that, it's
exactly the same. If you state the weight, dimensions, and contents
accurately, there should never be any issues. When I see people publicly
posting about how "problematic" it is to ship to Canada, it means to me
that there are now 1 or 2 more people on this list that will take that
to heart and be unwilling to ship north in the future.

I've been buying hobby stuff from retailers and private people the US
for over 5 years and have never had a shipment go awry, not once.

Ed Berris wrote:

Dan Mailing to Canada is not as easy as you suggest because the Canadian
customs or mail service seems to have a strong desire to screw with US

nearly impossible once it leaves the US. Packages are returned for minute
infractions on Canadian rules.

When I ship to Canada I inform my customers that once it leaves my hands I
assume no responsibility for the safe arrival of the package. If that is
not acceptable to a customer (and I can understand why it might not be) I
just won't take the chance. I'd rather not have the business or an unhappy
