Turn it around? Never. I wasn't insinuating that you
don't applaud his efforts.

Next year will be a flying year for our buddy in the
spotlight, I'll be doing my best to make sure of it.
Just so that everyone knows, Sheldon didn't fly at the
NATS this year because I was too busy trying to
complete a GeeBee (doomed from the beginning in
retrospect) to complete our Genie's. That was to be
Sheldon's ship to fly this year and I didn't come
through for him. They'll be done before this season is
done, so lots of stick time on that airframe to
prepare for NATS 2006.

Lots of pilots that donate their time at Nats helping the cause,
participate as well... it is done all the time. 8-)

Please don't reverse it on me, I applaud Sheldon's Nats work, I just want
to see him fly there too. Every year he tells me, "Next year, Jimmy".

BTW, I have never seen Sheldon fly a sailplane... yet I spend at least a

Now this is great, we're learning things here.
- Sheldon is to blame for my finally "getting it"
- Doug has a hard time just leaving the winch pedal where it is
- Sheldon is to busy working at the NATS to participate in the stick
wiggling (this should be applauded!)

Keep it coming, this has become a fascinating thread!

Gentlemen,

I REALLY apologize! I don't know what could have possibly gotten into
me...It must have been a moment of weakness. I humbly beg your forgiveness
for "watering down" our ranks with such "riff-raff", even if he is a good
stick!

I'm going up to visit Dan next weekend and, while he's busy building our
Genie Pros, I thought I'd help him get a headstart while we still have a
season. I'm going to bring him my Victory-C so he can work with Doug Pike to
get started. I can't wait 'til he gets his first whiff of TD with an
Unlimited ship!

Note to Doug Pike: Teach Dan NOT to fool around with the launch pedal with
plane hooked-up & in one hand whilst holding radio in other!

Note to Dan: If Doug starts fooling 'round with the launch pedal, back away
from the line, back away from the line quickly!

Now back to fooling around with my XP3-E conversion. Yep, an old XP3, that
can't be DLG'd any longer. I won an Astro 010 Brushless at the Worker's
Raffle, and...Well, I should know in a few days if it will work. Actually,
it's my wife's fault...She wants to learn to fly!

I'm beginning to understand the addiction to thermal hunting and I'd like to
place the blame where it belongs, squarely on the shoulders of my good
friend Sheldon Smith.

I've always appreciated soaring, but was truly hooked after putting a 42
minute flight on my Ariane V6 a while ago. Folks, this is a 1.66 meter F5B
plane that weighs 60oz all up. Of course, it climbs at over 100km/h, but it
WILL NOT thermal in a fart. It took a boomer day, but now I'm doing less
climbing and diving than climbing and soaring and I'm realizing more and
more that boomers are not necessary to climb, but smooth circling and energy
retention will allow me to thermal in moderate conditions.

I'm starting in earnest today on a Genie Pro. Winston was kind enough to
clue me in on the section changes he made for this wing as opposed to the
Genie and Genie LT/S, and the foam cutter is primed and ready for action.

Look out JB, I think I might just attend the NATS next year with Sheldon.
Looking forward to comparing tunes collections on our iPods.

Thats great Dan glad to hear you caught the soaring bug.

I've been flying just about everyday since April.
Lately, I've been getting back from flying, throw everything on
charge, grab some food, maybe a nap.
Then I'm bored, so I head back out for more.

I'm very lucky i can do this, since I build all night.
My motto is, ''got to git while the gittins' good!" because, believe me
it will change. :-)
