Hitec 555 (caseless). Small, light, top plugs. I tried a Berg, but that
cost me a plane. Went to Hitec and haven't had a problem since. I also use
Hitec SuperSlims in my TD planes...never any trouble there, either.

Looking for comments (pos neg) on various rcvr brands. I need to acquire
at least three new receivers for my DLG's that I'll be taking to Poway in
June. Here is what I have...

I believe I need receivers that have the plugs going into the top of the
rcvr vice plugging in the end.

This might be good for the 8UAFS but the 8UAF has two less mixes available
(along with a couple-fewer other minor features). If I use them to make
channel 5 useful then I lose out on the other mixes I need. It's been a
while since my Wizard Lite has been flying but I seem to recall I ran out of
mixers using my Hitec SuperSlim 8 with all the functions I was using for
camber changing, presets, etc. Maybe I could have accomplished it better
using the built in features but I recall having to go through quite a bit of
the little orange bible to get the desired outcome.

I have an 8U Super, but still, I don't think the mixing capabilities are
significantly different. I'd bet it would be possible to use a 5 channel
radio by using channel 5 as the second aileron/flaperon, and a bunch of
PMIX's to make everything work. You've got 7 PMIX's to work with, which
should be plenty to get all the same functionality.

Anyone fly a Berg6 in a contest environment with success? This is a
dual-conversion rcvr, correct?

 I like the Berg6

http://www.rc-direct.com/ sells them and they are priced pretty nice.

Jody,

I don't know why you need the top-plug rather than an end-plug but...If
there's a possibility of using the end-plug you might look at FMA
Direct's Quantum or Magnum Series Rx's. Both are dual conversion Rx's
and weigh-in at .5oz but they are end-plug types

won't fit in the Encore fuse.

Thanks.

Re: [RCSE] Receiver Recommendations

2002-03-03 Thread Adam Till

I've heard that Berg recently redesigned their Berg6, but the earlier ones were pretty
useless in a contest situation. I even had
problems with my 555's last year at Poway, and have since switched my Encore and
Feather DLG over to Multiplex IPD7's. The Encore
tried to kill itself in the 1,2,3,4 min round when I (standing upwind) flew over a
group of pilots downwind. It dove vertically
without any elevator input, and I just pulled out before killing someone. I'd got my
1,3,2 and was just skying out for the 4
too...expletives abounded after that I assure you. The only recievers that I haven't
heard having any problems at Poway were the
Multiplex ones, and they're not cheap anymore. I used to be able to pick one up for
124.99 Cdn w/crystal, but I think they're closer
to $150 now.
Cheers,
Adam

Now that I'm back in the States, I'm going to need to stock up on 72mhz

currently only have 1 Multiplex IPD receiver on 72mhz. Basically, I
need RX's to use with my MultiPlex Profi mc3030 transmitter in the
following planes:

6-servo F3B racer (I'll use the IPD here)
   6-servo TD model (another IPD?)
   2x 2-servo HLG (something light)
   2-servo Wanderer (something cheap?)
2x 2-servo foamies (something tough cheap)

What are folks using in the lightweight DLG's? How about in 48 foamie
combat planes?

Brad, you left too early.
We now have the Acacia HLG for DISCUS launching. He,he,he!!

Re: [RCSE] Receiver recommendations

2001-10-19 Thread Brett Jaffee

In my experience, the Hitec receivers are essentiall bullet proof. I have 4 or 5 and
have never had a problem with any of them...even ones that get abused in a combat
foamie.

For my DLG, I use a Hitec 555 with the case removed. I have another 555 for use in
other small slopers, and the rest are a mix of Hitec 7 and 8 channel rx's.

If you are in Southern California by any chance, be sure to check out Hobby People's
sales fliers. Every couple months or so they usually run a special on Hitec receivers
for pretty cheap.
