Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] SB3 LMS 7.9.x rebuffering of LOCAL not streaming files
With some more attention paid to what's going on, I noticed that tracks which re-buffer appear to be 24-bit audio files. I've now done more testing and *all* 24-bit audio files I've tested re-buffer. I think my perception that the re-buffering was intermittent was because I often use shuffled playlists so the 24-bit files were intermixed. Continuing to investigate but wanted to post this should anyone find it useful. gstalnaker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63504 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106497 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

If playing m4a to an SB Classic or an SB2 - then you will be transcoding. Also some not obvious instacnes of transcoding. * If you have WAV or AIFF files - IIRC these usually will be transcoded to Flac. * Some users disable native Flac or MP3 in which case transcoding will occur. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106497 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] SB3 LMS 7.9.x rebuffering of LOCAL not streaming files
Since I posted to the forum I setup the spare PiCorePlayer v2 using the same enet cable. Still get the re-buffering :-/ So whatever is happening, it shouldn't be the SB2 (which makes me happy as I really, really love this little piece of audio gear). There should be no transcoding -- all audio files are mp3, flac, or m4a. Also, not using streaming output, though I do listen to WFMT's stream for input, usually daily. Thanks bpa for your suggestion. I do have UPNP enabled and, I think, miniDLNA is also loaded though I rarely use either, but I'll stop reconfigure LMS to not load UPNP and I'll stop miniDLNA. Will post results. gstalnaker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63504 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106497 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] SB3 LMS 7.9.x rebuffering of LOCAL not streaming files
Other DLNA devices on LAN can cause LMS to be very busy and so delay sending data to players. Disable the UPnP/ DLNA Media Interface plugin to fix if this is the issue. SB Classic player has a smaller buffer than Radio so SB Classic woudl be more prone to rebuffer if there was a delay in sending data. Also not sure if audio is being transcoded. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106497 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] SB3 LMS 7.9.x rebuffering of LOCAL not streaming files
All, I'm baffled and don't know what to do. I have an old SB Classic that I've had for years. Player Model: Squeezebox Classic Player Type: squeezebox2 Firmware: 137 Player IP Address: 192.168.1.66 Player MAC Address: 00:04:20:09:05:4a It's been connecting to LMS without issue for that entire time. It is part of a 2-SB system, there is an SBRadio in the bedroom. The SBRadio connects via WiFi, the SB Classic is wired to my ATTUverse router. The Linux Kubuntu desktop on which the LMS runs is also wired to the ATTUverse router. Recently, in the past four weeks, playback on the wired SB2 is interrupted by re-buffering (as the display shows). This re-buffering is intermittent. Last night, for example, I listened to 2 hours of Sibelius symphonic music without one rebuffer. Today, I loaded a playlist and the SB2 re-buffered multiple times in the first 5 minutes. I have not noticed re-buffering on the SBRadio using WiFi nor on a PiCorePlayer using v2 of their release (currently unused). Today's re-buffering is particularly aggravating as I have spend many hours trouble-shooting what may be awry. This is not a Linux OS Kubuntu system load thing. Top at a zsh shell prompt shows practically no load and many gigabytes of RAM available. Typically I see something like this: top - 12:34:50 up 3 days, 17:39, 1 user, load average: 0.04, 0.05, 0.03 Tasks: 180 total, 1 running, 179 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie %Cpu(s): 0.1 us, 0.0 sy, 0.0 ni, 99.7 id, 0.0 wa, 0.0 hi, 0.2 si, 0.0 st KiB Mem : 12215068 total, 244300 free, 539568 used, 11431200 buff/cache KiB Swap: 9765884 total, 9765884 free,0 used. 11227496 avail Mem PID USER PR NIVIRTRESSHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 9882 squeeze+ 20 0 325280 213600 10416 S 0.7 1.7 0:06.67 squeezeboxserve Also ... it seems relevant though I cannot find anything amiss anywhere on the desktop to account for it ... the Default web UI is VERY slow. Page loads are in the 15-second range. Interestingly UIs for Android (SqueezeCommander) and IOS (iPeng) seems completely unaffected--just as snappy and responsive as they've always been. What I've done? I have removed/purged LMS and all files/folders Installed LMS 7.8, configured, and ... the rebuffering resumed. Updated LMS to latest nightly build, currently 7.9.0 - 1479666929 ... the rebuffering continues. The Kubuntu system in use is always updated with packages as recommended by Kubuntu as is LMS when new builds are released. Though the Kubuntu desktop is a full install I actually rarely sit down and use it, preferring to use an old laptop running LinuxMint (which I'm typing on right now). I don't see any setting that allows me to specify buffering options for the LMS. Agghh - the SB2 just re-buffered again :-/ And again. And again. That's three times in 10 minutes, seven times in 50 minutes total over five separate tracks. Suggestions welcome. gstalnaker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=63504 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106497 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Control Audio Receiver volume from LMS
I don't know of a specific plugin that would work as you are requesting but I know there was one specifically for Denon receivers that offered some control of the receiver from LMS. I believe that it was called Denon Serial Plugin so if you are using a Denon AVR you may wish to google around for it and maybe someone can help you with that. I am able to control the volume for my Pioneer Elite SC-95 by using Airplay and Phillippe's airplaybridge plugin. That plugin turns my AVR into a "squeezebox" and I am able to control the volume through LMS with the Ipeng app on my iphone. I am not familiar with how the ir blaster plugin works but I believe you need original squeezebox hardware to use it. Good luck and let us know if you figure something out. usc95's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59694 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106480 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] How to use Virtual Libraries in LMS 7.9
So the solution is to either - Craft an advanced search query that returns all the special tracks and none of the regular tracks and then save that as a library. - Design an SQL query that similarly returns only the special tracks and hack the virtual libraries pref file (Thank you dbm204 for the detailed explanation. That is very useful). - Design an SQL query as above and hack the LibraryDemo plugin to include a library based on this query. OR (as I outlined in my first response ;-)) you have LMS not scan your special tracks and only access it through the Browse Music Folder (or Browse Filesystem) option. Before I get going are there any additional trade-offs between the three solutions I should be aware of? E.g., does one result in nice UI or something like that? If done correctly, then all three options should result in the same views. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

If I am understanding correctly solution 1 is by far the simplest, but it is also not as expressive as the two others. In particular with solution 1 I would need to be able to distinguish the special tracks simply on some tag (or collection of tags) such as the genre. I am not sure this is a solution for me. A big part of the reason I want to sort these tracks from the regular tracks is that they are generally badly tagged :). So solution 2 or 3 seems to be the way to go if I want to sort on the directory structure. I am perfectly comfortable with doing SQL queries and poking around the database to get it right, so that is not a problem. I would however like to avoid having to deal with both perl and the LMS plugin framework, which IMO both are kind of a mess :p. I would probably go with solution 2 then. Before I get going are there any additional trade-offs between the three solutions I should be aware of? E.g., does one result in nice UI or something like that?
