[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.2 does not start on Readynas ultra pro 4

2019-01-15 Thread Ludi

Hi,
I have just installed LMs 7.9.2
(logitechmediaserver-7.9.2-1547382380-i386-readynas.bin) on Readynas
ultra 4 with Radiator 4.2.31. Previously LMS 7.9.1 worked fine.

However, it does not want to start. Readynas frontview says it did, but
it is not running (the Setting page does not open, ipeng does not see
the server ...). I basically removed the 7.9.1 and performed the
update. It is visible as an add on.
anything obvious I am missing?

Many Thanks,
Ludi

Hi everyone.

I did try upgrading LMS server from 7.6.3 to 7.9.3 on my prehistoric
Netgear ReadyNas Ultra 2 and it didn't work. LMS didn't start. 7.9.4
beta and 8.0.0 didn't start after the installation either.
I rolled back to 7.7 and it worked fine for me. Any thoughts? Is the
older Netgear stuff no longer supported?

Hmm... I wouldn't know what is breaking it. Just recently had feedback
by a user of a Sparc(!) based ReadyNAS who was running LMS8. That's even
older than yours. Is there anything in the server.log?

TBH. I'm rather going to remove the ReadyNAS builds than fix them. It
just doesn't make sense to support devices from a decade ago, but
nothing more recent... Raspberry Pi is the way to go, if you want to
continue to use your NAS as just a NAS, and leave the LMS duty to
something more up-to-date and working.

Hi Michael.

Thanks for your reply.
I see your point. But tbh I don't really understand why should I change
the hardware (ie Netgear NAS) that is fully working and fits all my
needs pretty well.
It does look like consumerism. ) If there's no way to upgrade to 7.9 or
higher that's ok for me. I'll stick to 7.7. Anyway thanks for your
input!

until I rebooted the NAS. So I uninstalled LMS 7.7, installed 8.0.0 and
successfully connected to LMS web interface but all the images were

Then I rebooted the Netgear NAS and got no connection to web interface

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.2 does not start on Readynas ultra pro 4

successfully connected to LMS web interface but all the images were

Ok, here's what I've found. The change which I could imagine could
potentially cause this crash is an update to the Audio::Scan library
from 6 years ago... You could try to use the version from 7.7. But that
would involve quite some tinkering... Would you be able and willing to
replace a bunch of files as the root user on your NAS? (and you'd have
to do this after every update!)

I do understand that you don't want to throw away an otherwise perfectly
working device. But that's not the point of using a Raspberry Pi to run
LMS. It's actually the exact setup I have in my office: I gave up
running LMS on my ReadyNAS Duo v2. But that same old NAS is still
serving the music files, handling TimeMachine etc. Running LMS on the Pi
has the advantage that you'll be running it on a device which is
actively supported (because I use it ;-)), and might actually improve
performance overall as a side effect, allowing you to take advantage of
plugins and features which might not have run on the NAS with its
limited resources.

I do have a will but I am not sure if I have the knowledge. I'll try to
dig into it on the netgear forums.

On the other hand I tried to install several other versions: 7.9.0,
7.9.1 and 7.9.2.
7.9.2 did not work for me just like 7.9.3, 7.9.4 and 8.0.0
7.9.0 and 7.9.1 are working fine. The only issue that I've noticed was a
bug with the plugins.
I can't see the list of 3d party plugins and it looks like LMS couldn't
connect to repository.

I have disabled my network filter but it didn't help. Still no
connection to repository.

Thanks for the advice, Mike. I think I'll give it a go.

I am sorry for a bit of off topic here, but probably you could help me
with this, Michael.
After installing 7.7.7 I found a new feature - the screensaver (Digital
VU or Analog VU) works on both screens now on Transporter. Wow!
But there's a small "Now playing" text that is really annoying. Please
see picture:

Do you have any idea how to remove this text? Please advise.

Thank you!

You just gave the perfect reason why to move away from this unit to run LMS:

The box lacks IO::Socket::SSL, and it's nothing you can easily update on
that system. SSL is getting ever more important. I'd really strongly
suggest you go the Pi route. Save yourself the hassle of trying to
update the NAS.

Ahm... no idea... I think I've never used that screensaver. But from a

It's too late, Mike.. )))
I've installed SSH addon to Netgear and now Upgrading a legacy ReadyNAS
from RAIDiator 4.2.x to 6.2.x.
Hopefully this will fix "IO::Socket::SSL" problem. If not - here's the
solution:

Code:

I ssh'd to my box and tried:

  $ apt-get update
  $ apt-get install libio-socket-ssl-perl

But apt-get could not connect to the proper repositories to grab the required
files.

I checked /etc/apt/sources.list and found this:

  $ cat /etc/apt/sources.list
  http://www.readynas.com/packages 4.2.31/
  #deb http://archive.debian.org/debian etch

After removing the leading '#' in the 2nd line (comment) I retried the above
two commands, this time IO::Socket::SSL installed OK. Spotty is now running on
my NAS :-)

Thanks for your help and all you're doing to keep LMS alive!

Did you check your server.log file
(/c/.squeezeboxserver/log/server.log)? If that's empty, you could edit
/etc/default/squeezeboxserver, add "--d_startup" to the "SLIMOPTIONS"
and try again. This might give you more information about what is going
on if it fails at startup.

the option did not work in the "SLIMOPTIONS" but it did work appended to

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.2 does not start on Readynas ultra pro 4

2019-01-19 Thread Michael Herger

Is there anything here that screams at you?

No. "Unfortunately" that startup seems to be working perfectly fine.

   Segmentation fault

Aren't there any timestamps in your log file? Would be interesting to
unerstand whether that segfault happens right after (or during) startup,
or whether it's delayed by a bit.

Please add "--debug server.plugins, server" to the startup options and
see whether that gives you anything. Please upload the full server.log
file to https://www.dropbox.com/request/T3RctyzGgNg0oFDubq6a

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 7.9.2 does not start on Readynas ultra pro 4

2019-01-20 Thread Heuer

You could try updating the Ultra 4 to the latest version of Radiator -
6.9.4 - although you will need to backup all your data before doing so.
Details of how to do it are on the Netgear forum; an upgrade not
officially supported but condoned. The file lms_1.0.9_all.deb is used to
put the ReadyNAS icon into the UI. Again details on the ReadyNAS forum.
Worth doing as it gives your ReadyNAS a new lease of life as it will be
running on the latest version of Radiator and you will get all updates.
I did it a few weeks ago and it is bullet proof and runs 7.9.2
perfectly:

I have the exact same isues trying to put lms 7.9.2 on my Readynas Ultra
2.
Are the backup for security or is a restore mandatory after upgrade of
Radiator ?
Do you have a link to the thread on Readynas forum ?
