Sure I could manage to install dependencies and sure I could use APT
instead of DPKG to solve the problem, was an example just to understand
how is meant to work.
Someone here above reported that installing 8.3.1 solved it, I assumed
it was correct, my fault.

Thanks, now I better understand.

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 8.3.0 dependency problems with libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl on my Raspberry Pi

2022-11-06 Thread Michael Herger

Using this dependency problem, as an example:

Dependencies aren't a problem per se. It only means you need to install
a few standard libraries, which should be easy enough to do.

"latest" is now 8.3.0 and, as per yesterday night, it suffers from
that.
"nigthly stable" is 8.3.1 and the problem is not there, which means has
been corrected at some time.

There's no change between these two versions related to dependencies.
Most likely 8.3.1 didn't complain as you resolved the dependencies when
you installed 8.3.0?

Should we expect 8.3.0 will be corrected too in the near future OR is
'frozen' untill you will promote 8.3.1 to 'latest'?

The latter. There won't be another 8.3.0.

If so, when sis
going to happen (talking in general, not specific to that release and
problem)

There's no rule, nor any plan. There will be an update when it's ready.
Fortunately for you you don't need any update.

Hi Michael, thanks for your answer, I sent you also a PM on this matter,
you could then forget it.

But could you please better articulate what we are expecting is going to
happen?

Using this dependency problem, as an example:

"latest" is now 8.3.0 and, as per yesterday night, it suffers from
that.
"nigthly stable" is 8.3.1 and the problem is not there, which means has
been corrected at some time.

Should we expect 8.3.0 will be corrected too in the near future OR is
'frozen' untill you will promote 8.3.1 to 'latest'? If so, when sis
going to happen (talking in general, not specific to that release and
problem)

Hoping my question is clear,

Thanks.

If you are running an old Raspberry pi OS I would suggest you get a new
sd card and burn the new image to that.

Keep your old card until you have configured eveything to your liking
and then;

make a back up of your new card

download the SD Formatter Tool to your computer and do an "overwrite
format" of the old card

all ther best

Why ? Sounds like your system is a bit poorly. Perhaps time to
understand the warnings ?

Have you brought your system up to date recently, i.e. -apt update; apt
upgrade- ?

Hi RobbH

Thanks for your reply. I know, that aptitude is not the same as apt and
apt-get. Still, with all three commands, I get the same error messages
about unresolved packages and installation of these packages fails
afterwards.

Also -f install does not help, same message again. That's where my
initial questions comes from: what might I miss, if
"libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl" is not installed?

I also tested the apt way to install the .deb package, I only get some
50k lines of warnings. And again, my 8.3.0 installation runs fine. I
guess, I might update my Raspberry Pi to a new OS version, hoping, these
issues will be solved automatically (o;

Thanks for all the suggestions and help I received. I'm still a happy
user of LMS (beside the fact, that the power supplies of one of my
Squeezebox Receivers died on me earlier this week)

This is bound to be a bit confusing, but "aptitude" is not the same
thing as "apt."

Since you have already used dpkg and the new version was installed, but
not configured, I suggest you just run this command:

Code:

sudo apt-get install -f

(Note: that's "apt-get," not "apt" or "aptitude"!)

The apt-get command is largely deprecated, now that "apt" is available,
But that version of the command should fix a broken installation, if the
dependencies are available. That's the way I installed the new beta of
LMS 8.4.

You mentioned earlier, "I might have to update my Raspberry some time in
the near future." What OS version is it currently running, and do you
regularly update packages?

Usually running latest beta LMS nightly on Raspberry Pi OS with virtual
players (Squeezelite and Airplay bridge). Occasionally using SB Radio,
Boom or Classic.

I see Paul has responded to your question

Here are the two links I sorted for you

https://linuxhint.com/ubuntu_dpkg_installation/

and

https://itsfoss.com/apt-get-linux-guide/

It's been so long since I used dpkg that I had forgotten the command to
repair a broken install

Code:

sudo apt -f install

a quick look on t'inernet suggests

Code:

  sudo apt-get install --reinstall logitechmediaserver_8.3.0_arm.deb

Might work, it you have not yet deleted the download, but don't take it
for gospel, I have to research a lot of stuff :)

APT resolves (or at least tries) to resolve missing packages.
DPKG doesn’t

I admit, I didn't try your way of installation, because my currently
installed version 8.3.0 runs and I don't want to change a running
system.

But I downloaded the 8.3.1 files you pointed to and they files are
identical (beside the indicated plugin update). So why should your way
of installing solve my dependency problem? I'm not an installation
expert so I try to learn and understand.

Thanks!

[SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS 8.3.0 dependency problems with libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl on my Raspberry Pi

2022-11-04 Thread andifor

Hi

I downloaded the recent LMS version, run "dpkg -i
logitechmediaserver_8.3.0_arm.deb" on my Raspberry Pi and saw the
following output:

"(Reading database ... 38381 files and directories currently
installed.)
"Preparing to unpack logitechmediaserver_8.3.0_arm.deb ...
"Unpacking logitechmediaserver (8.3.0) over (8.2.0) ...
"dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of
logitechmediaserver:
" logitechmediaserver depends on libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl; however:
" Package libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl is not installed.
"
"dpkg: error processing package logitechmediaserver (--install):
" dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
"Processing triggers for systemd (215-17+deb8u13) ...
"Errors were encountered while processing:
" logitechmediaserver

I started LMS manually with "service logitechmediaserver start" and so
far everything looks fine. The configuration is taken over from 8.2.0
and I can stream music fine enough.

I tried to install the package with "apt install
libcrypt-openssl-rsa-perl" but there seems to be some issue with the
package repository. I might have to update my Raspberry some time in the
near future.

Where might LMS run into issues with this package missing?
