Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Most recent MacOS update broke LMS?
This morning I fired up a Late 2012 Mac Mini running Mojave v10.14.6 I connected a Topping DX3Pro Dac (using headphone output) and used Audio MIDI to set it for use as Sound Output. I plugged in a usb stick (Fat32 format) with a few albums to use instead of a HDD. I opened Safari and downloaded the latest Mac OSX installer. http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=8.3 I used the default installer to install the package and accepted all screen prompt requests for access. I used the Mac Systems Preferences pane (LMS Server was already running) to navigate to the usb stick. I then opened the default LMS gui, went to Basic Settings and scanned the usb disk into the Library. Next stop was Settings >> Plugins >> tick Update plugins automatcally >> Apply When the screen returned I ticked the box for Local Player, waited a minute and refreshed the screen. I did NOT go to the ADVANCED tab I then returned to the LMS Home Page and selected Squeezelite from the dropdown, selected an Album and hit Play. Music !!! I rebooted the Mac whilst it was playing (the setting in the Preference pane STATUS window was "Automatcally start server when system boots) Reopen windows when logging back in was ticked for the Restart (and I'm set to login automatically in Users & Groups) The windows reopend but the LMS restart failed ( thiis has been an unresolved problem for at least a couple of years) I clicked Start Server in the Status tab and all was well. I changed to "Automatically start server at login" This worked, but it does take a while and I had to refresh the LMS gui Hope this helps someone on the old 32bit OS ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116791 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Most recent MacOS update broke LMS?
Back in September of this year I trialled LMS and the Local Player Plugin on my old iMac running Catalina. I was attempting to help someone on another forum with a similar install. I managed to get things working, (I did the perl and bash permissions thing) but it did not feel "just right". Tonight I installed LogitechMediaServer-8.3.1-1668720899.pkg over the top of the previous version. I accepted all permission requests. Updated the Plugins, and, using the System Preferences Pane window, navigated to an external usb 3 hub and loaded a small library of flac files. Playback was without any problem through the iMac's internal speakers. Tomorrow I'll try the Toslink output and maybe the USB. Seems like a winner Congrats and thanks to the folk responsible :) ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116791 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

This seems to work correctly. As expected, a one-time Allow Access dialog appears, and then the allowance is added to Files & Folders, and no longer requires re-authorizing with each server restart. Thanks for the confirmation! I'll merge that right away. New 8.3.1/8.4 should come with signed binaries. ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] Most recent MacOS update broke LMS?
I'm trying to get a new build with a signed Perl out... but somehow Github doesn't want to accept my new file. It's been hanging for... half an hour? Or rather more. Anyway: I have a perl binary which should be signed. If you feel willing and able to tinker on the command line, please try the following: - Download https://www.dropbox.com/s/33y6sucf05rqj0x/perl.tar.bz2?dl=0 - Extract the archive - Copy the resulting perl file to /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/perl/bin/perl You can then: Code: codesign -v --verify /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/perl/bin/perl And it should give you some positive result. I can confirm that the codesign workaround works in Monterey as well. I did need to restart my Mac for LMS to reconnect to my Booms. Can also confirm that granting explicit Full Disk Access to bash and perl is no longer necessary and I removed those permissions in the Privacy Settings. dmw010's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=71000 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116791 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Does this mean that part of the build/release process will have to be outside of Github? It has never been there - yet. I was considering moving to Github, but the Windows and Mac builds are painful... Ralphy is working on a more open Windows build. Hopefully this will allow us to have a more standard build pipeline. The Mac builds will need a lot of work. We're working on the first step, to basically get LMS working on latest macOS. But some of the surrounding tools like the PrefPane are more than a decade old. That should be overhauled/replaced. But signing would still be a problem. You can integrate Github actions with external builders. A signing system is super sensitive. I would never be allowed to access this from outside the corporate network. ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Sorry, I was replying mostly to the other user who had the issue with the prompt for allowing LMS to access Removable Volumes. It wasn't clear to me if you had this issue also. Your issue, if I'm reading correctly, seems to be related to Firewall being enabled. I don't use it, so I don't know what the issue is here. > > Does it matter whether I remove bash and the other versions of perl from > full disk access? Right now I've got 4 versions of perl with full disk > access. I haven't worked out all the details for what is now required. Here is what I believe is true: 1. When you run the LMS package installer, it is the owner, and it is the app that requests permissions. You'll see Installer in Privacy & Security > Files and Folders, and it should have listed the locations where your media is located (e.g. Documents, Network Volumes, Removable Volumes). 2. After installation is done, if you start via the Settings panel, then launchd inititiates launching LMS via perl and the perl script slimserver.pl. This is where the codesign workaround helps. From my testing, once I've performed the ad-hoc codesign'ing as mentioned earlier, I only received the permissions request one time, and never again regardless of restarting LMS. 3. When starting slimserver.pl via command line, enabling Network and/or Removable Volumes for the perl contained in the LMS package is sufficient. 4. The requirement for bash / sh I believe are/were for performing updates via LMS, or perhaps starting from the command line (prior to Ventura?). I have not checked on this fully in my tests today. I did just do an update via LMS's web interface and it worked. I do not have sh or bash added to Privacy & Security > Files and Folders or Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access. Here is what I have configured: 39098 39099 The multiple versions of perl you have are likely no longer necessary in those lists. You only need the perl contained in the LMS package to be included, since LMS now uses its own self-contained perl binary (and modules). +---+ |Filename: Full Disk Access.png | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=39099| +---+ MrC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=468 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116791 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

It seems that stating via the System Settings > Logitech Media Server will always re-request Network Volume or Removable Volume access. But starting via command line does not, and allowing Network Volume or Removable Volume access from perl remains activated: Code: /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/slimserver.pl So this is indicating that macOS is treating startup via Settings differently. The parent process of the command line above is your shell, and those commands inherit their access from the launching terminal app (e.g. Terminal, iTerm2). But the parent process ID of the LMS settings panel is 1 (this is launchd), and the ultimately invoked slimserver.pl command gains its access from the System Settings > Logitech Media Server binary. I'm not sure the reason why this is no longer working, and I didn't find a workaround. Ventura's GateKeeper has more restrictions. So perhaps until this is discovered, just launch LMS via the command line, as in : Code: /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/slimserver.pl & MrC's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=468 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=116791 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
