Theme change

[Alex Kang]

After upgrading to 2.7, my pidgin theme from 2.6 is no longer applied.

This is the method I used to apply my theme:
I downloaded my theme from there: http://art.gnome.org/themes/gtk2/
Applied it by downloading and extracting it to C:\Program Files\Common
Files\GTK2.0\share\themes
Then I started GTK Theme selecter and seleted the theme under global and
current user.

I am using Windows 7 64-bit. This no longer works. The actual selector
program is a GTK program too and the theme is applied there but not applied
on my Pidgin program.

Pidgin 2.7.0 and W7 64bit

I haven't seen any discussions to the contrary, so I will assume that Pidgin is
able to run on a W7 64bit PC, probably a stupid statement for there is both an a
XP 64bit and Vista 64bit Windows operating systems.

My question, I have Pidgin 2.7.0 running on my W7 32bit PC., I want to install
it on my W7 64bit Laptop. After installing Pidgin, can I copy the .purple 
directory
from my W7 32bit to my W7 64bit, and still have Pidgin work as designed
with all of the Plugins I have installed? 

Not that I'm lazy, I just don't want to create those accounts again, or install 
the 
plugins (I didn't keep a list of which ones were installed, there is probably a 
way 
to list them, but I digress).

Oh, and John B. Thank you for the update to Pidgin, your work is greatly
appreciated.

Thanks Brian, I ran the installer. I selected the "Debug" but during its 
installation
an error trying to find the download library kept occurring. I canceled the 
Debug 
installation, Pidgin then completed. I restarted Pidgin and my contact list, as 
well 
as the two IRC Chat sessions were started too.

I noticed that the GTK+ library is now part of the Pidgin directory. Except for 
Pidgin,
I do not have anything that required GTK, can I uninstall the old GTK+ library?

2.7.0 conversation window now wider

With the addition of the "Attention!" button at the bottom of the
conversation window, the minimum allowed width for the conversation window
is now greater than it was in previous versions.  I want it to take up as
little screen real estate as possible, and would like to know if there's any
way to remove the "Attention!" button so I can make it thinner, or perhaps
some other solution.

Sort of, but not really.

First of all, we did float the release candidate to a small number of
responsible people.  It just turns out that "responsible people" and
"windows users" are sets with a very narrow intersection, I guess.  No
surprise there.

Second, this release contained a security-critical fix (see
http://pidgin.im/news/security/), so floating a binary to the general
public prior to embargo date would be bad form.

Yes, there are various ways to mitigate that (release a binary without
the security fix, release the binary without a changelog announcing
the security fix, etc. etc.), but they all take time and effort, and
many of them introduce the possibility for bugs to *still* creep
through and/or require a developer with a Windows machine on which to
build and test anyway.

We all agree that testing would have been useful here -- what's not
useful is the sarcastic remark to that effect, particularly without
any clue as to how it happened or what the circumstances were.

OK, that seems to have worked OK, thanks Daniel!

This one is definitely not your fault, it's a problem with my work
machine where it simply won't allow access to the web proxy server
unless it's via a browser. Maybe now I can get it fixed as I use Pidgin
for work and I should be able to install it without hassles :)

This comment is not helpful.  Clearly we would like to test
everything, but in some cases it is not possible.  Most Pidgin
developers do not have access to Windows, or don't have access to
Windows on personal machines.

John's other option would have been to not produce a Windows installer
at the same time as the source and Linux Pidgin 2.7.0 was released, in
which case we'd all have inboxes full of Windows users crying that
they can't download the "latest" version.  None of them would read the
messages already on the list, either.

That's what I tried before, yes, but it didn't work. At least theme 
selector showed me the available themes, but no matter which one I 
selected, it didn't work. And by the way, it really worked after I tried 
the GTK bundle with installer, but I deleted that stuff again. Now, I am 
using the offline package that was propagated on and on in the support 
list. But I still cannot change the theme. I also realized, that the 
conversation windows is no longer resizable horizontally. Please help, my 
eyes hurt because of the default theme, really.

At this time, it is a manual process - we don't include any extra
themes in the runtime, so you'd have to manually install the theme and

Pidign: 2.7.0 & SIPE Plug-in 1.10

I realize the SIPE Plug-in is not "sanctioned", but it seems not to be working 
for me.
- I don't see the Account Type of "Office Communicator"
- Does anyone else see this issue with the new Pidgin and the new SIPE

Hi all,

Firstly, please reply to the list, not directly to me.

Secondly, I don't have any experience with Ubuntu, I use Fedora. So I
don't know how to build the appropriate package, nor know what
dependencies or other config changes are needed.

You would do better asking on an Ubuntu support forum, or possibly
someone on the Pidgin support list can help you.

That is correct. The standard download is an online installer that 
doesn't include GTK by default, it downloads it during the installation.


If you are having issues with the installer, follow these steps and you 
should have no issues.


 - Go to pidgin.im
 - click "DOWNLOAD" at the top of the page menu.
 - click "Windows" in the left menu
 - click the "Download Pidgin - 2.7.0 for Windows" link in the center 
of the page

Please reply to the list as well.

That's because you didn't follow the instructions exactly. You need to 
use the Download button in the top bar, then click on Windows, and use 
that download (it'll say "pidgin-2.7.0-offline.exe" as a filename) 
instead of the standard download you get when clicking on download on 
the main page. The main page download will still take you to the online 
installer that is currently not working.

As soon as I installed 2.7, I got an error message saying that
the GTK could not be installed. When I tried canceling, the
installation continued anyway. Now, whenever I try to run Pidgin,
I get two messages back-to-back: the first says that
libatk-1.0-0.dll cannot be found, then that the GTK was not
installed correctly.

As soon as I installed 2.7, I got an error message saying that the GTK 
could not be installed. When I tried canceling, the installation 
continued anyway. Now, whenever I try to run Pidgin, I get two 
messages back-to-back: the first says that libatk-1.0-0.dll cannot be 
found, then that the GTK was not installed correctly.

 - click "DOWNLOAD" at the top of the page menu.
 - click "Windows" in the left menu
 - click the "Download Pidgin - 2.7.0 for Windows" link in the centre of the 
page

That URL is
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pidgin/files/Pidgin/pidgin-2.7.0-offline.exe
you can click it here in the mail too (generally you should not click links
in email messages you get from strrangers;-)  ).

Run that installer and you should be all set.

gtk theme selector without function anymore???

The files for the online installer haven't been fully uploaded yet;
you'll need to use the "offline" installer
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/pidgin/files/Pidgin/2.7.0/pidgin-2.7.0-offline.exe/download)
until those are up.

I've been using Pidgin for over a year now, and have been able to

Update from 2.6.6 to 2.7.0

2.7.0, but the ppa contains no new updates and 
on the website pidgin.im i can't find the 2.7.0 version
for ubuntu. There's only the 2.6.6.

Download the full installer, run it, problem fixed

Installation error

I've been using Pidgin for over a year now, and have been able to
successfully update and access it it before now. I tried to download
the 2.7.0 update, but received the "Error Installing GTK+ Runtime"
message. I followed the instructions in the FAQ, and shut down all

2.7 could not install (or reuse) GTK, cannot find libatk-1.0-0.dll

Broken 2.7.0 installation - unable to back out - Pidgin hosed - help

I just went and upgraded to pidgin 2.7.0 and the installer seems to be
broken, getting an error downloading GTK.

Screenshot attached of error displayed during installation.

I uninstalled completely and tried again, same thing.

I can't run pidgin anymore right now. :-(

Can anybody please help out?

Problems with localisation and spell checking selections

I downloaded the offline installer version of Pidgin 2.7.0, on running
it I selected the en_GB localisation and UK English spell checking
options, but due to a problem with firewall authentication it was
unable to get to the OpenOffice site to download the dictionary files.

Might make sense to provide alternative instructions as to how to
get and what to do with the en_GB.zip file that it attempts to
download. I'm now trying to work out what to do with the files in
the zip.

I just tried to download and get the same issue.
The URLs I followed were:

I got a 8.7 MB big file.

Another thing: After this error the install continues, giving an

Wouldn't it be better to abort the installation if GTK can not be

For next time I suggest the latest revolutionary technique,
called "testing" ;)

nudges in new pidgin

I could jus be being daft, but i just downloaded the new version of pidgin
and its activated nudges.  Is there any way to disable this feature as I
dislike nudges and find them a nuisance.

The problem with the win32 installer that everyone's reporting is that I didn't
realize there was other stuff that needed to be put in place to make the normal
online installer work.  As a temporary fix, I have changed our download page to
point to the offline installer, which includes GTK+.  If you previously
downloaded an installer and are experiencing issues, try downloading the offline
installer.
