Sent subfolder regenerates by itself

2010-02-26 Thread Lou
I have 3 E-Mail accounts plus my Local Folder. After I upgraded to SM2,
an empty Sent subfolder appeared inside the regular Sent folder in my
Local Folders. If I delete it, it goes away, but reappears the next
time I run SM. Is there any way that I can get rid of it for good. Can
I also get rid of the Sent folder inside the Local Folders, since I
don't use it (the 3 E-mail accounts have their own Sent folder).

Instead of just downloading an executable to run, they've decided to get

The only problem is, when you try to install it, you get a message

I downloaded from that site and installed version 10.0.45.2 (10.0 r45)

I've been using maps.google.com and it zooms just fine. No stuttering
that I can see (but perhaps I don't know what you mean by that).

I've zoomed-in on the main US map that is shown when first visiting
the page, as well as maps shown for specific addresses. I've even
used the street view. All works as expected.

View Message Body As Bug

2010-02-26 Thread David Wilkinson
In SM2/TB3, if I save a message as a .eml file and then open it from the File
menu, it opens in a new window in which the "View Message Body As" feature does
not work. The selection button moves, but the view does not change.

This only happens with a saved file. If a regular message is displayed in a
separate window, the "View Message Body As" feature works correctly.

Migration help needed 1.1.18 to 2.0.3

2010-02-26 Thread hawker
So today I decided to update my last 1.1.18 hold out to 2.0.3 and I have
some issues, most likely from an improperly performed upgrade (my
fault). Can I get some help fixing this.

I installed the 2.0.3 into the 1.1.18 directory, bad mistake. At that
point I could not get Seamonkey to work at all. I uninstalled 2.0.3 and
then reinstalled into the default directory, which was different for 2.x
than 1.1.x. At this point 2.0.3 works fine and I was able to import
most of my settings. I was not able to import mail or news though.

I then reinstalled 1.1.8 and am using that to compose this.

So my guess is the only question is, without using MozBackup or some
other third party tool (or copying profiles over by hand)how do I get
2.0.3 to import my 1.1.18 mail and news?

Thanx

Re: Archive feature additional question

2010-02-26 Thread Rob Steinmetz

I was going to post almost the exact same question.

Can anyone tell me if there is any difference in behavior in Seamonkey
regarding the Archive folder. One thing I have noticed in the SeaMonkey
2,x is that it periodically re indexes mail folder and if you have a lot
of mail that can take a long time. I was wondering if the Archive
folders are normally skipped in that process. It would seem that they
would not need to be maintained at the same level as the main folders.

Jens Hatlak wrote:

Am 10.02.2010 15:54 schrieb David Wilkinson:

I see there is a new Mail Archive feature in SM2. I don't find a
description of it in the SM2 Help

Even worse, there hasn't even been a bug report for that. My bad. Now
there is:

"The new Archive feature (inspired by Gmail) automatically moves a
message to an archive folder when you hit "A" with a message open or
select Message | Archive.

In SeaMonkey it's Shift+A. And there's a context menu item as well.

The archives folder layout sorts messages by year, with subfolders
for each month."

That's the default. You can change the behavior using the
mail.server.serverX.archive_granularity pref.

 From the source:

"This attribute and constants control the granularity of sub-folders of
the Archives folder - either messages go in the single archive folder,
or a yearly archive folder, or in a monthly archive folder with a yearly
parent folder. If the server doesn't support folders that both contain
messages and have sub-folders, we will ignore this setting."

Single Archive Folder = 0
Per-Year Archive Folders = 1
Per-Month Archive Folders = 2

As I wrote above the default is 1.

Note that AFAIK sub folders are not created automatically currently. You
need to do that manually once for each year/month. Or maybe I'm wrong
and only the subscribing doesn't work. Or not always. Anyway, once the
correct folder hierarchy is visible in MailNews the Archive
functionality works as expected.

Does this work with an IMAP server?

Yes.

If so, presumably the Archive folder is on the IMAP server.

By default it's the same server if it supports it, yes. You can set the
Archive folder per server under Account Settings, Copies& Folders. I
for example always set it to Local Folders for all accounts. YMMV.

What happens if you have an IMAP server that does not support
sub-folders?

Then flat archiving is used automatically.

HTH

Jens

Bernard, I'm not convinced that your metaphor is correct. For the OP a
page-is-a-page; in fact lots of people use MS Word to compose web pages
since it can output html code. Lots of people love to "publish" via web
pages. More and more people "read" web pages ;-)

Ahh yes but to put it mildly, Word makes absolutely lousy html Code.
Don't believe it. Borrow a Copy of DreamWeaver and go to Tools menu and
choose Fix MS Word HTML. The html in word is used more for embellishing
text with bold, italic. underline They only place it renders properly is
to dowload it and open again in Office.

If your document is going to "live" as a web page, your word processor
should produce it.

I think the OP's question makes a lot of sense, especially in terms of
cloud computing and assuming that resources (e.g. speed) are not a
concern.

Which is more of a kludge: putting "links" into word processors (as we
know them) or putting Table Of Contents into Composer?

I see the OP's question as correctly portending the merger of word
processing and web page composition until there is no longer a
distinction.

sorry sorry sorry - my use of "ms word" is a red herring! pls ignore.

In an ideal world word processor should produce validatable html code.

Ah HAA! So THAT's where the old "launch or run" button that appeared after download completed hid itself! I was so
missing that feature. Yes, I understand the need for "security" for the more naive in not presenting them with a big,
fat "run" button out in the open like it was previously, BUT this seasoned veteran had absolutely NO visual indication
that you could click on the filename in this dialog box and access these two "open" and "open containing
folder" options. I was just about to write a complaint to have this option brought back.

So, back to this thread, Yes, I like the slightly more clear indication (via the tiny
triangle arrows) that the filename can be clicked (oh, AND the 'From' location just
below it), but it still would have pass me by if I hadn't known such was the case.
So, maybe make these two items look like buttons, but only slightly, if that makes
sense, like making the background color just a shade lighter and surrounded by a
slightly darker 1 pixel stroke. OR, just add an actual small button the size of the
window min, max, close gadgets at the end of each line.

That test didn't use quotes to contain the phrase so no pages with those words
in that exact order were returned, so yes, lots-o-pages with individual words
highlighted (bolded).

Upon the second search using the string that had the spaces replaced with %,
the results were identical, so Google ignored the %.

If I put a search phrase within quotes, such as "walt disney world", the same thing happens. After
clicking the search button in the sidebar (or hitting Enter key), the spaces are replaced with %, per
"walt%disney%world", and of course, the webpage returns hits with the highlighted phrase "Walt

Why is 2.0.3 telling me there's a new version available and I should
download 2.0.3? Is it looking at the version of the default SM in
/usr/bin instead of what I'm running which is 2.0.3 (not pre on this
machine)?

I leave the distribution default in /usr/bin and run the latest stable
or pre out of /usr/local/ instead.

This is not an error report, I'd just like to know why in case I set up
a user this way.

Bill, don't know if it matters but your header indicates you're using
SM 1.1.16!!

Different machine, this one is used only for a few groups and filling
out forms. Until the last few days the forms capability in 2.0.x has
been less than I need, although the add-on from Phil Chee seems to have
fixed that and I plan to migrate. Of course the forms will not migrate
and I will have to do them all over, so I'm being hesitant about it.

Thanks for taking the time to check, but I really was on a 2.0.3 machine
when I saw the problem.

O.K., Bill how aboutWhen you were on SM 2.0.2, you had it set to
check for updates each week, and, just a couple of days after SM 2.0.2
did a check you heard here that 2.0.3 was out so you, manually,
downloaded and installed the update, then several days later SM (that
was 2.0.2) was doing its weekly check and found the update to 2.0.3 was
available!

i.e. before actually doing the update, SM did not check to see what
version it (itself) was.

Could this fit with your situation, Bill??

Do you mean that every mail folder has the "Select this folder for offline use"
checked? This does not happen for me (either for Imap or News).

BTW, in your signature, the "--" line should have a space at the end, That is
what indicates to the reader that what follows is the signature. In SM the
signature is then displayed in a greyed font, and is stripped from the quote in
a reply (see how your sig is not stripped above).

SM2: Imap folder syncronisation

2010-02-26 Thread Matthias Kahlert
Hi!

I'm looking into migrating several users from 1.1.18 to SM 2.

On a test-run I realised that folder synchronisation seems to be on as a
default in SM 2. (This spilled 15GB of junk into my test-profile.)

I see that it can be turned off manually in the settings, but I would
prefer to turn it off once and for all, because mail shoud stay on the
imap-server only anyway.

Is there a user-pref to turn off synchronisation completely?
