OK, I _think_ I see what you are referring to. If I have a jpg
attachment in an email, I have the following options:

1. View the attachment inline (View|Display Attachments Inline).
2. Open the header pane and right-click on the attachment and:
- Open
- View Source
- Save As
- Detach
- Delete
- Save All
- Detach All
- Delete All

If I click 'Open' the jpg opens in a SeaMonkey browser window.

I'm assuming that your bosses would like to click on 'Open' (after right
clicking on the attachment) and have it open in an out of SeaMonkey
picture viewer instead. Is that correct? If that is the case, then I do
not know how to do it other than saving the jpg and then opening via
windows explorer etc. Perhaps someone else will know?

Nope,

I think jpg's too default hardwired as a browser-based app
if they have to go to the extra step and have to local save prior to
using their preferred viewer on the jpg, would cause me to lose any sleep ;)

(The mimeTypes.rdf showing in the attached image is generated after I
renamed the original to 'Types' with no extension, and restarted
SeaMonkey - I'll Restore my old one now and try other options)

Ah. You're right. But the instructions show:

So I'm reckon that if they are not present you won't need to worry about

It uses a text file named profiles.ini, stored in SeaMonkey's
subdirectory of the Windows %APPDATA% directory. More info at

pretty straightforward, but I'd make a backup before editing, just in

Server Name: news.grc.com
Port: 119
Security Settings: None
check - Always request authentication when connecting to this server

Done.

Now here is the trick: when you first post (do it at g.test so that you
are sure it's working & you don't piss off anyone in the regular groups)
enter a *password* of your choice when it prompts you for a _username_.
Then when prompted for a password, enter the same password that you
entered when prompted for a username. When you then look at your
password manager in SeaMonkey you will see two entries for grc:
news://news.grc.com (news://news.grc.com/#password)
news://news.grc.com (news://news.grc.com/#username)
They _both_ should be the same.

Enter into the account name field (as shown on the OE page). Enter the
same into the password field when you first connect (and the 'enter

I have tried news.grc.com a little while ago. The passphrase is only
needed if 'Always request authetication...' is checked. After doing so
it was required to restart my SM before this change took effect.

And then i used the same word, heureka :), successfully for both

Same here... however there have been glitches.

The "repeating' seemed to be related to the server requiring a
login/password and then the newsgroup section also asking for one. In
my experience, setting up the server login first, then sequentially
logging into the sections was a one time only process.

Also, (it's been a while) there were problems when different newsgroups
on the same server required different logins and passwords. I think I
remember that this was fixed, but, fwiw, creating a different account
for each news group (i.e. one using dns, one using ip) was a
workaround... more than two, host file time.

You most probably want to use the password manager to store the
password, as password handling for news of both, SeaMonkey and
Thunderbird, *SUCKS*. They prompt for the password over and over and
over again which is one reason, why I tend to change my newsreader.

Prompting for password "over and over?" Are you checking the "Don't ask
me again" checkbox? Thunderbird's own password-keeping has always
worked very well for me, since version 0.2 -- zero-point-two.

I don't use Thunderbird for News (though I have test accounts set up),
preferring a full-featured newsreader that isn't mostly an email client.

U... no. SM asks me for the password when Mail/News is launched and
that's it.

For Mr Merrill's problem, it may help to know which news server he is
trying to access. Sounds like it is some non-standard affair.

Re: signature oddity in SM 2.1 nightly

I have to admit that I can't seem to reproduce the problem, but maybe
I'm following the wrong steps.

Is the signature file itself an HTML or a text file?
Does the problem only occur with a file, not with the signature textbox?
Does the problem occur if you switch identities (using the From
dropdown) or only on initial composition?

Here are some details, Neil:
- signature file is an HTML file
- the problem occur also when using the signature textbox (in HTML)
- the problem do not occur when using the text box with text only
- Same problem when switching identities (both using the same HTML file
as a signature though...).

Hope this helps

Configure SeaMonkey with the server name. Try to fetch news, SeaMonkey

how to use SM for news with 'pass phrase'

2010-06-18 Thread Rick Merrill

a particular server says,

"Secure Authenticated Logon to Our Server:
Before posting any articles to our server you must configure your newsreader to logon with a Username and Password. You can NOT use the "anonymous" or
"don't need to logon" mode of your newsreader if you wish to post your own articles. You CAN use anonymous logon if you only wish to read existing
articles.

Choose a long and complex "pass phrase" for your logon and use the same phrase for BOTH the Username and Password fields of your logon. That's all
there is to it. You can use anything you like for your Username and Password — but they must be identical. In other words, you must use the SAME
string of characters for both your Username and your Password.

Please choose something LONG that won't be easily guessed.

The first 29 characters of what you choose will be securely encrypted and used by our system to authenticate your logon so that only YOU will be able
to delete your own postings. "

How do you do this using SeaMonkey?
