Frequently, when I encounter a site with broken sniffing, I will drop a note to the webmaster/contact/company president or whomever seems appropriate for the site in question, and politely and tastefully advise them of the error of their ways. Re: How to attach a signature to an outgoing SeaMonkey 2 Mail Newsgroups
cetus35 wrote: How to attach a signature to an outgoing SeaMonkey 2 Mail Newsgroups e-mail. Yes, this is lengthy, but I've been Googling for the last 2 hours and couldn't find exactly what I wanted, so I figured it out by myself. So, maybe this will help someone. (Note for the below text, IE call bookmarks 'Favorites, and SeaMonkey calls then 'Bookmarks, in case you haven't run into this before.) Also note that having a Signature (and if you're familar with word processing programs), a Signature is very similar to a 'macro', which is automatically attaching something to a document without having to type it in everytime, such as a letterhead, contact phone numbers or fax numbers, etc. 1) Open Seamonkey 2. 2) Open Mail Newsgroups by : a) Clicking on the tiny Mail Newsgroups icon on bottom left of the browser, b) At the top menu, click Window then Mail Newsgroups, At first I was going to reply that this might be the location in SM 2.1, because in SM 2.0.x it's at Edit-mail Newsgroup Account Settings, but further on you say you are using SM 2, so I'm lost!! c) Press the Control button (Ctrl) and number 2 key at the same time. (Ctrl + 2) 3) When the Mail Newsgroups window opens, 4) Click on the top level account name (left pane of the window) (I sometimes use a couple but I'm just using 1 right now, and I've named it (during the setup of mail) 'Windstream Mail' at the initial setup of Mail Newsgroups, the first time you ever open it where it asks for your desired user name, your POP3 servers, etc. However, you can easily change the name of it later, if you want. 5) So, click on the top level account (they are in bold letters) Not on my screen!! and then click on (in the right pane of the window) View settings for this account. 6) The Account Settings windows opens. 7) Here you can change all sorts of your account settings, but we're only worried about our Signature for right now. These are changed in the areas that say: a) Signature text, Use HTML (or not). You can type your desired Signature right here in text, but you can also use HTML code in this box, if you want to get fancy with it. :) b) Or, alternatively, you can use text file, (like a file created in Notepad) all the text and/or HTML, links to other sites, a small picture or logo, etc. c) To use the text and/or code that you created in a text file, put a checkmark by Attach the signature from a file instead: d) After that, all you have to do is click the Choose... button and navigate to where your signature file that you made is located. I put mine in the SeaMonkey folder itself, but you can put it anywhere at all. I'm using Windows 7 with Seamonkey 2.0.12 (just SeaMonkey 2 , really), so where I put mine is here ( means next step) Start buttonUser name at top rightAppDataRoamingMozillaSeaMonkeyProfiles a folder that begins with '8a16g8mg' .default To simplify, it's the only folder here and it ends with '.default', what it begins with is different for everybody. Now you're in your SeaMonkey profile folder where your address book, history, bookmarks, etc. are located. It just seems to me that it's also a good place to put my Signature file. However, it DEFINITELY won't hurt if you keep a copy of it somewhere else. I always (and never fail to do so) get copies from this folder: a) address.mab - (IMPORTANT) all your address book, with all your friends, family, work, etc. addresses you've accumulated is kept. b) bookmarks.html (ABSOLUTELY essential) (mine has over 200 sites and/or particular pages of a site, pictures or files.) c) history.mab (OPTIONAL, in my opinion) which is a history of where all you've visited. I personally don't care about this. I never use my history to go back to places I've been; I use my Bookmarks, which is probably why it's monstrous, :) d) After you've saved these files to a safe place, you may want to go back here (SeaMonkey profile folder) periodically to get the fresher versions of these files. e) If you've had a disaster of some sort and have to completely re-install SeaMonkey, just drag and drop these files back into your new SeaMonkey folder or Import them. i) bookmark.html - For me, the easiest way to 'import' (which technically is done by clicking the File button on the top of the browser window, then select 'Import and Export... then go through the steps as what you want import etc.). ii) I simply copy my previously saved files (hopefully you have saved the

I was just able to open a downloaded .avi and .wmv file in SM, and also discovered that my install of Flip4Mac needs update...so I'll grab that. But the QT 7 plugin seems to be doing its job in/for SM - QT 10 comes up for me if I just double click to open outside of SM. Also - in your Flip4Mac System Prefs - make sure that Launch QuickTime Player and Always show movie controller are *unchecked* under the Browser options. I have the latest Flip4Mac 3.8.1 I just grabbed 2.3.8.1 - I assume that's what you have. Looking at Flip4Mac settings again, there's also a setting for Play .avi files in the Pref Pane - make sure that's *checked* too. Dunno why it's not working for you, but maybe we can still get it figured. Phillip I'm using OS 6.6, on a Macbook Pro and iMac, have both QT x and 7.66 installed and have the latest version In 'about plugins' there is *no* option for enabling wmv but there is a separate Flip4Mac Windows Media plugin. The only preferences I have enabled are the ones mentioned above, i.e Browser: *Use Flip4Mac *Maintain aspect ratio Player: *Open AVI files As an after thought you may have to restart after you make any changes. Good luck, if it were me I'd start over again and the only preferences I would *touch* are the ones mentioned above. Exactly. I've been against anything like this for a long time but I got sick of the reports of users running into problems with SeaMonkey just because we don't send Firefox in that User Agent string (and the good side is that the version of the Mozilla platform in SeaMonkey 2.1 supports doing this with a very simple flag). You are telling us that Firefox is added in the UA string depending of a flag ? If yes could you inform us about details of how to set/reset this flag ? It's even better than a about:config flag! Quoting from my previous post:dzodnfxfpnh9jihqnz2dnuvz_oodn...@mozilla.org When you first install the SM-2.1 (currently b2pre), the Firefox UA probably is turned-on by-default, but it is easily toggled-off via the menu:- Edit Preferences Advanced HTTP-networking User Agent String and uncheck the Advertise Firefox compatibility box. No about:config scenario required. HTH Barry. Add-on Manager Plugins - Updates?
After opening up the Add-on Manager, the Extensions page has a 'Find Updates' option. The Plugins page does not have this, so how does one update the Plugins (I have ten showing here)? Can't Send E-Mails, But Can Receive Them.
Hi, I have an old netbook, and a new one. Old = Windows XP SP3, and new= Windows 7 Home Premium. I have an ISP, and connect at home with Cablevision cable, and on the road with Cablevision Wi-Fi. I use a netbook mostly on the road. I'm running Avast antivirus, SpyMaster antispyware, and the Windows firewall.I set up both of them exactly the same, including proper server setting and port for SMTP. The old one works fine. With the new one, I can surf the net, and I can receive new e-mails. However, I cannot send new e-mails; getting one of two error notices: 1) Error 10604 = the servers are not talking to each other or 2) Interruption before transaction could be completed. Only twice, out of many attempts, I got an error signal consisting of nonsense letters and digits, followed by spamhaus.com. Yes, that is German spelling. I have no idea what it means. I contacted Samsung, and they did not reply. I contacted both Cablevision and my ISP, and they just told me the correct server and port settings, which I knew. I spoke with a computer geek friend, who said that it is a third party matter that he could not help with. I have no clue as to why I cannot send e-mails, but can receive them.It is frustrating, because I therefore cannot use my new netbook, with its high-res screen and somewhat faster chip. Any help to fix this problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Re: Update to 2.0.12 outgoing mail problem
I had similiar problem when updated to Seamonkey 2.0.12. I got locked out from using Browser and email. So I reloaded seamonkey and problem was NOT solved. Called my provider for tech support and luckily he knew something about seamonkeyh. Three hours but no luck. I finally decided that my older versions of Netscape (7.2) and firfox where the culprit, so removed all programs that were Mozilla related . Then did an explorer file search on Mozzila and deleted all files related to that EXCEPT my Mail folders. Moved them to different location. I also use the Local fike options which has about 25000 message back to 1997 mostly genealogical research stuff. Also looked in C: for mozilla and deleted them folder by folder. I was convinced I had the problem solved. Guess what, reloaded the seamonkey 12 and same old problem. I then was convinced I had register files causing the problem and I did a internet search on Seamonkey + Register + Problems and found this forum. Your problem with antivirus Avast sure seemed similiar to my problem. I use BitDefender2009. Looked in filewall and found Seamonkey. Upon examination, the path shown for it was different than where I loaded seakmonkey. So deleted that one reference AND GREAT THINGS HAPPENED. Thanks for any assistance. FireFox Does have this feature where you can update Internet plugins. Have had the four or five versions of FF. Yes I use FireFox, most to test out my website. Click a Button it goes to a Plugins Page listing your plugins, whether they are Up to date or not. -- Phillip M. Also in SeaMonkey 2.1b3pre Under Help, About plugins, there is a listing that will take you to the same place. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey
