password manager keeps crashing

2011-08-15 Thread JAMES OSBOURN
I recently upgraded to Seamonkey 2.1 and then 2.2 with the autoupdate and I
just found a few days ago that when I try to access my password manager it
will crash seamonkey every time.

I get the password manager tab appear for a few seconds before it goes
away. I have submitted a crash report a couple times in case it helps.

I would like to be able to recover my passwords where possible as I doubt I
can remember them all, as well as getting the password manager working
again. Everything else appears to be working fine.

Thanks

You could probably fix that by changing this pref:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Middlemouse.contentLoadURL

Thank you for posting this. Not only does it stop the current clipboard
from being loaded in the URL bar (content which is often not a valid
URL!), but it allows a middle click to close tabs running under openSUSE
11.4, which is my preferred action.

I had been annoyed by this, and unable to find any solutions.

Bullshit! The bug fixes will just be included in future releases. That
is, if good bug fixes are found - for this bookmark importing problem,
it's very hard to find one, because we don't even know the circumstances

Can not add funds to T-Mobile prepaid cell phone account

2011-08-15 Thread flyguy
Using SM 2.0.14 and SM 2.2, I am unable to add funds to my prepaid
T-Mobile account. I am able to add funds using IE 7.

Here's what happens with SM:

I go to t-mobile.com and I log into my account; it shows me a page that
includes Fund your account. I click on that; it shows me a page that
includes Credit/Debit account. I click on that; it shows me a page
with the current fund balance and a number of options for dollars and
amount of time. After 2 seconds, that page is replaced by a Welcome
back! log in page. I log in, and the page with Fund your account
appears, and the cycle is repeated with no apparent end in sight.

With IE 7, everything goes as expected, and I was able to add my funds
to my account without any problem. Last year, I was able to this with
whatever SM was current at the time. I have not experienced this
behavior with any other website.

So - bad web page? A clever SM setting I am missing? Is there a workaround?

No, not Bullshit, but charging elephant shit :-)
Any person who is on say SM 2.2 and encounters bugs in that release,
will not be able to remain with the UI features of that release,
and just obtain fixes for the bugs/misfeatures in 2.2, without
needing to wait until some future SM 2?.x which will have new
mandatory features needing to be user debugged after the upgrade.
This 2?.x will of course, as happens with all new features code,
contain its own basket of fresh bugs.

How about changing the upgrade code by adding a programmed check for,
did the bookmark conversion happen? i.e.:
- Check the new bookmark data structure contents against the old
bookmark.html contents . If the conversion was faulty,
generate a debug dump report and send it to development central.
(some recording of circumstances might need to be saved at the start
of the process, on a contingency basis )
- Release this 'instrumented' code into the field.
Then you wouldn't have to wait for users to 'perhaps' report
the failures anecdotaly.

I believe that you would get faster results with this than by
reading, hunting in, the code, or with code walk throughs.
But Of course this would mean breaking the policy mandate of,
NO SPECIAL debugging/fix RELEASES.

Firefox to Eliminate Version Numbers from [Help About]

See bug #678775 at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=678775.

Is this something that will also be done in SeaMonkey? I hope not.

I see no benefit and a possible detriment to end-users from this idea.
After all, most software on my computer -- even the My Computer window

Phillip, you keep stating you have a problem getting your SM 2.0
bookmarks over to 2.1 and subsequent versions. You vaguely imply you're
getting some but not all of your bookmarks. Could you give a bit more
exact info on what you're getting and what you're not. Do you import
your SM 2.0 bookmarks.html [1] file into another profile you use
exclusively with SM 2.1+, or? If you start SM 2.0 with your 2.1+
profile, even just once, you'll receive the bookmarks gone syndrome.
This has been well noted [2], but seems people tend to lightly ignore
it, and then bitch about it.

Now, if you've managed to import your SM 2.0 bookmarks.html into a
2.1+ profile and you're just not seeing you Personal Toolbar Folder
items, do you happen to find them in the Bookmark Manager under
Bookmarks Menu (direct child of All Bookmarks)? If you do, you could
just move the contents of the Personal Toolbar Folder to the
Bookmarks Toolbar folder, and they will appear on your Personal Toolbar.

[1] https://wiki.mozilla.org/SeaMonkey/2.1/FAQ#Bookmarks
[2] http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.1/#issues

on 2.3.3 when I first opened in the created profile. The bookmarks
files I had copied over. There were No Bookmarks what so ever. There
were no personal Toolbar items when I opened there are just four empty
items That you would expect when just creating from scratch.

I then followed directions given here to convert the html. I then got
back the links but no labels as to what the links represent so there is
no way to sort them.

In my experience Its been broke since 2.3.3a.

I created a new profile. copied over my 2.0.14 profile items. on 2.1
worked though it stomped on my Extensions. 2.2 kept the foot down on
the extensions, plus Stomped on my Plugins, 2.3.3a kept feet down on
extensions and Plugins. Then choked out my Bookmarks and my personal
Bookmark items which will take months to recreate.
so gar 2.0.14 is the only SeaMonkey Version.

If you do, you could
just move the contents of the Personal Toolbar Folder to the
Bookmarks Toolbar folder, and they will appear on your Personal
Toolbar.

[1] https://wiki.mozilla.org/SeaMonkey/2.1/FAQ#Bookmarks
[2] http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.1/#issues

on 2.3.3 when I first opened in the created profile. The bookmarks files
I had copied over. There were No Bookmarks what so ever. There were no
personal Toolbar items when I opened there are just four empty items
That you would expect when just creating from scratch.

I then followed directions given here to convert the html. I then got
back the links but no labels as to what the links represent so there is
no way to sort them.

Just got through trying 2.5.1.a same problem. Nothing except Mozilla Links.

history file to places.sqlite.corrupt and create a new places.sqlite
file, effectively resetting your browsing history. This is because the
internal format changed and the upgrade process only works in one
direction.

In any case you go back using your profile with SeaMonkey 2.0, even for
just one session, you'll find your bookmarks gone starting with
SeaMonkey 2.1 and subsequent versions, next.

Yes I Understand and I do have. else I would not be using my 2.0.14 now.

From my understanding of what I have been reading, the developers have
no idea how to fix this problem of not converting bookmarks and it can
strike anytime with no warning.

This should be the top number one bug to be fixed.

Honestly I don't understand which part of the upgrade process only
works in one direction you don't understand. May be you think you're
smarter than the developers which have given you exact instructions on
what _not_ to do, but you've done it anyway... and then you've been
given number of advises how to recover from your mistake. I don't think
the SeaMonkey developers could invest more just to make an automatic fix
for your mistake. If it was that easy, they would have done it already.

Look if you have hundreds of Bookmarks and the disappear. when you
switch to updated browser. Wouldn't you want the bug fixed.

You don't understand this a Deal Breaker! No one is going to update to
something That wipes out years of Bookmarks/Links you've built up. Up

No I am no developer. And I don't know the intricacies bug fixing. You
developers say say you want users to tell you what bugs are happening
Yet when you get told, Its you don't know this, you don't know that. So
either you want it.

This is almost as bad, as SM Crashing the instance you open.

Unfortunately I'm not sure what no labels as to what the links
represent should mean. Could you make and post a screen shot of your
Bookmarks Manager with the All Bookmarks, Bookmarks Toolbar and
Bookmarks Menu items in the left tree pane expanded, and any folder of
yours selected, showing the no label items in the right pane?

Okay I will give an example:

When you click on a Bookmark Folder you see the name Apple, or
Suntrust or Discover.
Now if you import from the html file there is no labels just
http://www.apple.com or http://Mozilla.com , whatever.

See this: http://screencast.com/t/5hpREkJm

2.2: Personal Toolbar folder does not import

2011-08-15 Thread Jay O'Brien
I went from 2.0.14 to 2.2. I imported bookmarks.html. The included
Personal Toolbar folder which populates the toolbar does not import, I
had to rebuild it.

After doing this, I exported the bookmarks to bookmarks.html and
looked at that in the browser. I see that what populates the toolbar
is now the Bookmarks Toolbar.

I suggest that if a bookmarks.html file is imported, that the
Personal Toolbar should not be ignored.

This is just an FYI for the Seamonkey team, I've fixed mine.

to something That wipes out years of Bookmarks/Links you've built
up. Up until 2.3 this wasn't a major problem.

Does up until 2.3 this wasn't a major problem mean you had no problem
migrating/importing your SM 2.0 bookmarks into 2.1 and/or 2.2 version?

No I am no developer. And I don't know the intricacies bug fixing.
You developers say say you want users to tell you what bugs are
happening Yet when you get told, Its you don't know this, you don't
know that. So either you want it.

This is almost as bad, as SM Crashing the instance you open.

I don't know about the SeaMonkey devs, but I'm having really hard time
understanding your problem. You seems to not clearly present it even
when I ask for specifics like screen shot showing the problem - you've
showed a screen shot showing no problem. Do you think that helps?

2.2 Composer will not edit links

2011-08-15 Thread Jay O'Brien
I went from 2.0.14 to 2.2.

Using composer, I then attempted to make a change in a line in a html
page. It was a link to a url.

I selected the text part of a ink anr right-clicked on it, as I have
done many times in the past, and found that the Link Properties
selection was greyed out, and I was not given the opportunity to edit
the link properties to change the link.

As a test, In Composer, I created a new web page with a single line
test text and put a url with it, and saved it. It worked fine, but
then, after opening the web page in Composer for a further edit, I was
not given the opportunity to edit the link properties to change the
url.

This is a local html page in my NAS, I didn't try to edit a page over
the internet on my website.

Fortunately, I still have computers running 2.0.14 and Composer works
fine on them, so I can continue to maintain my web pages.

How can I fix 2.2 Composer so that I can continue to edit link
properties?

Workarounds:
1) In Normal Compose mode, double click on the link, you'll get the

2) Select Source view, and edit the a ... manually.
3) Double click the link in Preview view.
4) Switch to another tab and then back to Normal view and the

SM2.2 online job application form problems

2011-08-15 Thread Tom S.

Hi all,
Why does SeaMonkey have problems with filling out
online job application forms nearly all of the
time? I almost always have to switch the
rendering engine (IE) to show the form correctly
and submit the information. The forms on most
jobs websites will not work with SeaMonkey. It
becomes very frustrating, trying to fill out these
forms and they just won't work right.

Is there some sort of conspiracy to force people
to use IE, in order to fill out these forms? Or is
there something wrong with SeaMonkey and the way
it shows them?

Since the OP is using Windows XP, I don't think this explanation applies
in this exact form. Adobe does keep supplying plugins for non-IE
browsers in Windows.

With that said, however... it IS possible that the OP is missing the
Adobe Reader plugin in Seamonkey -- the installer for Adobe Reader
detects Firefox (and, I think, Opera) automatically, but not Seamonkey
or other less-common browsers.

A couple months ago I gave somebody instructions to manually install
this plugin, but it was for Vista/Win7... let me see if I can adapt it
to XP...

...yes, here it is:

Just copy nppdf32.dll from:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\Browser\

to your Seamonkey plugins browser (usually C:\Program
Files\SeaMonkey\plugins )
