No, it isn't possible. There are a couple of workarounds:

* You can try using the Launchy extension, which allows you to open
links in other applications.
1. Go to Tools-->Add-ons, to open the Add-ons Manager.
2. Select the "Get Add-ons" panel.
3. In the top-right, search for "Launchy".
4. It should be the first result. Just click on the [Install] button.

* You can use a standalone email client, like Mozilla Thunderbird.

Chris, I thought it was possible to make a click on a link in an e-mail
open Firefox (not sure about a new tab though).

Requires a modification to a pref in about:config. Not sure which one
(something about "external", maybe browser.link.open_external), but
maybe someone in the know will drop by.

of it. I fixed my home page through preferences, and bookmarks,
address

mail

before
so am wondering how to get the rest of my mail back.

My profile is still where it should be in the file structure, but I
can't get the mail. It doesn't show up in the mail pane, although it's
there in the file in the profile. How can I recover the information?

One unrelated question (less important)--when I open a tab, it goes
behind the existing tab, thus requiring another click to open it. That
didn't happen before. What should I do to fix this?

All help and suggestions greatly appreciated.

Larry

Larry, have a look at Tools->Switch Profiles. Do you have more than one
profile available?? If so, select the other one and see if it contains
your missing mail.

Report back.

Sadly, only one profile. Thank you for the thought, however.
Hmmm . . . Wonder if bringing in the backup copy of the oprifile would
work? (Need to rename the one that's there now, or give the "new" one a
different name?)

Larry

O.K., Larry, next step, in SeaMonkey, have a look at Edit->Mail &
Newsgroup Account Settings, select "Server Settings" on your mail
account. Note the location of your Local directory on the bottom of that
screen.

Completely close SeaMonkey.

You're using Windows so open your file manager and find the location of
your e-mail account. You have have Windows set to not display more than
two or three levels down. You need to set Windows to display all folders
and files.

Do a Windows "Find Folders and Files" looking for "inbox" (without the
quotes). Hopefully, the search will find more than one inbox without the
suffix, apart from the location you noted above.

In the Windows file manager, locate these other inbox's, change their
names to inbox2, inbox3, etc, and move them into the same location as
your inbox location above.

Now, re-start SeaMonkey and, hopefully, you will find more than one
inbox in your mail profile, with the others containing your lost mail.

Report back.

Thank you for saving me! This mostly worked (see below), but started
with a surprise. The search found 25 (yes, 25!) files/folders with
"inbox" in their name. Ten were .jpgs (inbox 1,2,etc.), 2 were in the
recycle bin, 5 were .msfs, 4 were various other file types, and one was
an empty folder. Sorted it out, and followed your advice. All well with
mail, except for "Archives" which didn't transfer. Got that sorted out
with some fiddling around in Windows Explorer.

So, finally back in the Mail business! Forgot to mention that News also
had to be started anew, but no problem there since the messages were on
the server (which I don't do with Mail, but probably should). Only
glitch was that all the Filters were gone. Fixed with busy work.

Thank you again!

Larry

It happens periodically and is really killing my productivity.
There was at least several times for the past few months, when Seamonkey

I do not know what changes are causing all that locking disk usage of

I think I observed similar hogs/locks with disk access also in latest

I have both SeaMonkey and Firefox on my Ubuntu 11.04/Gnome PC, and don't
see any "hogs/locks" at all. My first suggestion would be for you to go

Thank in advance,

My suggested way, is to do the following on the OLD XP machine:

(1) Install SeaMonkey 2.0.x from the website
(2) Run that and perform the profile migration
(3) Allow SeaMonkey to update to the newest version (repeated updates if

(4) Once on the newest version setup a SeaMonkey Sync Account (or "join"

On the new machine, join that SeaMonkey Sync Account

The mail migration, unfortunately is manual at this time, but that gets

My experience is that there are very few Java applets left on the normal
web. Most developers seem to have moved on to Flash or HTML5 presentation
-- with of course the over-abundance of JavaScript we see every day.
(Java and JavaScript are two entirely different things.)

You can see a safe Java applet here. If your Java is enabled, the time
display will tick-tock away; otherwise it's a static display:

So the answer is: unless you know of a specific web site(s) that actually
do use Java applets, you can safely remove it - or at least disable it,
possibly via the use of the PrefBar extension (also makes it easy to
manage many other things, including en/disable JavaScript).

I think I observed similar hogs/locks with disk access also in latest

I've been running with my disk caches set to zero for years, and still do.

Can the customized text and background colors chosen, that appear in the

Add this script in your userChrome.css:

#threadTree treecol,
#threadTree
  {background-color: #99 !important;}

You can change "#99" with whatever colour you want.
If you don't know how to create a userChrome.css file, post back and

Uh? If you are talking about using different colors (and sometimes
background shades) to highlight different levels of quotes, they sure do
show up for me, both in mail messages and in newsgroup messages.

I don't remember doing anything special to enable this functionality in

The prefbar does have its points, but to be truthful, the new add-ons
manager makes it so easy to disable a plugin (no restarting Seamonkey
necessary, even), that if you don't need the other features, it's
overkill for this purpose.

Well, one thing I have notice that causes a somewhat similar behavior...
do you use Seamonkey as a RSS/Atom reader? I do (and I subscribe to
quite a number of feeds -- more than fifty certainly), and I have
noticed that Seamonkey becomes unresponsive while updating the feeds.
Downloading email also causes a bit of a slowdown, but far less noticeable.

Profile problem

2012-02-23 Thread Paul Marwick
I've recently hit a problem which seems to be related to my Seamonkey
profile. I share the profile between two different Linux distributions -
Salix and SalineOS. Its been in use for quite a while. Currently running
2.7.2.

One forum that I frequent (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/) is letting
me log in as normal, but dropping my login within a few minutes,
sometimes within a few seconds.

I'm pretty sure the problem is something in my profile. I've tried the
latest Firefox without the problem recurring, and I've also tried a
fresh Seamonkey profile, which also works.

Problem is, I've got a lot of things I don't want to lose in my current
profile - the mail setup, my bookmarks and passwords being the main things.

Is there a way I can create a new profile but import the bookmarks, mail
account details (and settings for mail areas) and my browser passwords?

Paul.

Uh? If you are talking about using different colors (and sometimes
background shades) to highlight different levels of quotes, they
sure do
show up for me, both in mail messages and in newsgroup messages.

I don't remember doing anything special to enable this
functionality in
news; but then, I have been using Quote Colors for ages, so it
could be
something it has done automatically.

A recent-version-of-Seamonkey-compatible copy of Quote Colors can be

Sorry, I'm not talking about quotes. I've reached the age where bright
white pages hurt my eyes, as I am on my computer most every day, all
day. I used the Walnut theme before, which helped a lot, but it's not
available for the new releases.

Since my friends and I share news articles and images daily in
e-mail, I
use HTML for mail and that's apparently the root of a lot of my
problems
relating to fonts. :)

I was just wondering if the available Color options for background and
text could be expanded.

I just applied the code Chris supplied, and this is what the result
looks like. The red in the folder view is from a previous change.

Ahh... I see that it did change the message list... but not the
display or the background for the group names. Maybe there is
hope. :)

Don't know why I just didn't stay logged into ImageShack LOL!

Anyway, final product after playing with different colors.

I also hate white backgrounds.

Wow... that's a great app I could look at all three. I think I like
the Walnut set the best. :)

I really appreciate you going to all this trouble for me, WLS! Sorry I
can't do anything to ever help you. :(

No problem, I was waiting for UPS to deliver my new motherboard, CPU,
and 4 GB RAM, update this PC with. Now that it is here, I'll try to
compose that email and send it off.

You might want to read, review, and understand this before proceeding.

It is important that you backup your profile, so if the changes you make
don't work, you can recover to the previous look.

I need to migrate a Sea Monkey version 1.1.14 profile from old XP
machine to new XP Pro machine with version SM 2.6.1 version.

I am not finding how to do this and I would greatly appreciate guidance
and steps to do so.

Thank in advance,

My suggested way, is to do the following on the OLD XP machine:

(1) Install SeaMonkey 2.0.x from the website
(2) Run that and perform the profile migration
(3) Allow SeaMonkey to update to the newest version (repeated updates if
required)
(4) Once on the newest version setup a SeaMonkey Sync Account (or "join"
one if your new machine already has it)

-

On the new machine, join that SeaMonkey Sync Account

The mail migration, unfortunately is manual at this time, but that gets
you the MOST up to date that you can.

Also, highly suggested to update to 2.7.2 on your new machine as well.

I have installed latest version on OLD Machine
and have established a sync account.
I have run new version but I do not see HOW to do the profile migration
from old version to new version on the OLD machine.

Guidance appreciated.

TIA,

Dan

And it's always possible that something that's claimed as fixed, really isn't.
Or is only partially fixed. Like a leaky pipe patched except for that annoying

There is no need to restart SeaMonkey when turning Java (or Javascript,
or Flash, or Cookies, or Popups, etc) on/off via PrefBar.

A profile is a sub-directory. You can have as many as you want
available, and you can put them anywhere you want. If you want one
profile to have some of the same data as another, just copy the relevant
files from the first over the files in the second.

If you want a post sqlite version of SM to have the same data as an pre
sqlite version, make a copy of the older profile with a name that has
some meaning to you, then have the new version create a new profile and
tell it to use the copy you just made. It will update it. You can use
a 1X profile to go to sqlite level.
