2.8 new e-mails appear/disappear occasionally

2012-05-09 Thread chicagofan
Reading the various posts about e-mail problems in 2.9, made me think maybe I should post about the problem that started
in 2.8 for me, when others were talking about getting a new mail *alert*... but no mail appeared. I was having the
same problem, but when I went back to my e-mail folder, after checking all the folders mail would be there.

Today for the first time that I've noticed, I *got a few messages*, switched to another folder and right back, and had
more. I have also changed the sorting and it made mail disappear. After changing the sorting back to the previous
way, it reappeared, and it's set to view ALL messages at all times.

Just a lot of puzzling behavior I thought someone should know started with version 2.8, if they're working on mail
problems appearing in current versions.

Check if you're using the same profile as before. If not, see if the
Profile Manager will let you access the old one. If so, set that as
default and delete the new one.

Switched to the old profile, and got some mail back. However, that
profile (and thus the mail) was older, so not an ideal solution. Then, I
set up a new profile, emptied it out (just two small files), and pasted
into it the contents of my backup copy (made immediately before the
upgrade). That worked!

Thank you for the suggestion, which set me on the correct path. You and
