Is "Let SeaMonkey manage the size of my cache" always at about 1 GB (1044480 KiB)?

2012-09-18 Thread Ant

Hello.

Is "Let SeaMonkey manage the size of my cache" setting always at about 1
GB (1044480 KiB)? Isn't it supposed to change dynamically? I never see
it change and always maxxed out near 1 GB (1044480 KiB).

Thank you in advance. :)

Is that the actual usage?

In the dialog at Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Cache, "Your cache is
currently using 10.9 MB of disk space." (my case)

The default 1024 MB figure below the check box doesn't apply unless you
uncheck the box; in that case you can change it to any number you like.

I'm using 2.12.1, too, so the dialog box should look the same:

The cache keeps copies of frequently visited web pages on your hard
disk. (Clicking Reload always shows you the latest version of a page.)

Your cache is currently using 10.9 MB of disk space.

[x] Let SeaMonkey manage the size of my cache.

Use up to 1024 MB of disk space for the cache. [Clear Cache]

You seem to have set the program to do what you want it to do, so from
where I sit it looks like the problem is solved -- as long as you
remember to check manually from time to time (Help | Check for Updates).

In my experience, setting SM to check weekly (not daily) gets me one
notification a week if a new version is available; I don't get repeated
nags. I find this tolerable; YMMV.

I would welcome upgrade notices via email.

Since nobody keeps track of who downloads and installs the software,
much less maintaining a database of user emails, that's not gonna
happen. Sorry.

I don't speak for the SeaMonkey project, so perhaps the developers would
be willing to set up an automated email notification option. But based
on how I've observed this project over the years, my guess is no.

Sea Monkey not verifying HTML

2012-09-18 Thread John
I am using Sea Monkey and for some reason after I create an article and
upload it, I need to RE-DEFINE my links in my header and footer as the
uploaded versions link to my file on my Mac which is worthless for my
readers. I have no way to fix this or I do not know how to fix this,
other than re-defining my links but it works. A old HTML editor that I
used in the past had a verify links feature that would do the job for
me, but it appears that Sea Monkey does not have this feature. Does
anyone know of a way to solve this annoyance? Thanks..

My latest article is here.

The links I am talking about are in the header and the footer.

PS- Some have told me to move to Word Press, some other software or what
not, which is not going to happen in my situation as I lack the
technical skill, the funds, and time for such a project. I choose to
focus on my time on my content and spend as little time as possible
dealing with these technical issues.

You don't specifically say but I'm guessing you mean you're using
Composer in SeaMonkey.

If so, before you upload your documents to the server click the "Source"
tab on the bottom of Composer's screen. Manually change any relative
links pointing to your hard drive to point to the online/server
resource, or URL.

MCBastos probably just wanted you to toggle full screen mode, and didn't
know that it's a different shortcut on Mac.

On Mac it's Shift-command-F.

On Mac keyboards, the F# keys along the top are primarily for things
like volume, pause/play, screen brightness, etc.. To invoke the actual
F11 command, you need to hold down the fn key (aka Function key).

Well, yeah, it was kinda shot in the dark... I didn't even remember if
Macs *had* F# keys, but since HilsB mentioned trying one, I though,
well, it's worth a try...

You mean, that's where HP got the idea from? I have to disable it
(there's a BIOS setting for it) in every new(ish) HP notebook one of my
clients buy... I have yet to find *one* person that thinks the "HP way"
is better, for two reasons:

- In the "HP way", those keys (volume, screen brightness etc.) are just
TOO available -- it's easy to hit one by mistake. The "Fn" combo
protects the user from mistakes.
- Even among people with medium-to-low computer skills, the F1, F3 and
F5 keys, at least, are fairly well-known and used. "Hiding" them is a
minor, but noticeable hindrance.
- And, for advanced users (the ones who are familiar with
Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F# combos...), adding another shift key to the combos is
a major hindrance.

I do not get this problem, either with all my extensions enabled or in
Safe Mode. You might have an extension that I don't have, an extension
that is causing this problem.

Trying to read this page, keep getting this popup:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped
responding. You can stop the script now, or you can
continue to see if the script will complete.

 Script: http://www.mtv.com/sitewide/scripts/mtv.jhtml:1309

 [ ] Don't ask me again

 [Continue] [Stop script]

I choose "Stop script," and everything freezes for a minute or so, and
then the popup returns. So I choose "Stop script," and everything
freezes for a minute or so, and then the popup returns. So I choose
"Stop script," and everything freezes for a minute or so, and then the
popup returns. So

Can I have my browser back, please?

P.S. I've always wondered what "Don't ask me again" does. Am I saying
"don't ask me about this particular script on this particular site," or
am I saying "never ask me again about any script anywhere," or what?

The page displays correctly and I do not get any script errors when
clicking on the page link you provided. However, clicking on the script
link you provided results in a '404 Error, Page not found or moved'
message.

I thought perhaps it could be cookie misbehavior, but I have the site
set to block all cookies.

The 'Don't ask me again' option is for that script on that page only.

Maybe not. When I chose that option, I was next prompted for
, which I treated
similarly. Then I was prompted again for
, and later for
. So SeaMonkey seems
to have forgotten what I told it.

My environment is Windows 7 x 64 and Seamonkey 2.12.1

Mine, too.
