Re: Serious Overload Problem

2013-02-17 Thread Robert Gault
I've had a similar issue with recent versions of SeaMonkey but don't know
whether SM is causing the problem, my AT&T mailbox on Yahoo, or my dial-up
connection.

Any time the content of an email is "large" say about 100K, it is not deleted
from the Yahoo mailbox. Instead, the large email kills the flow leaving the
large email and all others on Yahoo.
Since the large email was not POPed, the next attempt at getting email just
repeats the large message.

The workaround is to manually delete large emails from Yahoo via the browser.

I suspect that this is a timing issue caused by the slow dial-up connection.

I've never enabled this setting, so I don't know how SM handles large
messages in this configuration. Does it just silently ignore them, or
does it notify the user?

Well, selecting Help from the menu bar or pressing F1, navigating to the
Customizing SeaMonkey heading, then selecting Appearance Preferences -
Fonts is a place to start.

yes... i've always known about edit preferences > appearance > font...

the problem is it no longer works, and hasn't been a universal fix for
quite some time... Font preferences stick for the initial display, but
once one hits reply and starts typing a response to any message, the
teensie weensie tiny fonts reappear in the compose box... i don't
recollect this being an issue in 1.xx.xx versions...

I don't recollect 1.xx.xx versions, or the last version I actually used.

However, setting the Monospace Font Size larger made the fonts larger in
the compose window for this reply. The setting stayed when I Quit
SeaMonkey, and opened it again.

The files are located in Firefox plugin directory after installing
coupon printer into Firefox.
NPcol400.dll
NPcouponprinter.dll
NPmozcouponprinter.dll
After copying these files to your Seamonkey plugin directory. Just run
the install procedure again for coupon printer. It will now work.

In the URL address window, type about:plugins

The path to all plugins is shown for each one, for example

Shockwave Flash

File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_11_5_502_149.dll

It downloads the header and the initial lines of the message and
provides a button if you want to download the entire message. Very
simple, very effective!

I would do some testing before trusting it, though. I have seen ISPs
with non-standard mailserver configurations that overrode user
preferences in unexpected ways -- like *always* deleting a message after
it's downloaded, no matter which settings the mail client uses. They
only work correctly for the least-denominator crowd.

If the ISP equates "getting the header" with "downloading the message,"
you may end up losing the attachments.

I wasn't advocating using it. I was theorizing that this could be one
reason the whole message wasn't downloaded but the short form kept
getting downloaded. If the OP hasn't enabled this option, then this
doesn't explain his problem.
