Chatzilla, DOMi and Lightning are not in the package because the l10n

Maybe someone already on 2.46 can try the current builds out. Existing

any recent nightly zip. It even has some additional fixes in it.
Chatzilla is available on AMO. If Lightning 5.1 is not available on AMO

I WAS happy, but now, with my new pc under Windows10 - I still have the
problem evenwhile using the ALT key.

How to eliminate the SM context menu to be able to access the GoogleMaps
context menu ?

I see this (SeaMonkey menu appearing over Google's) if Edit >
Preferences > Advanced > Scripts & Plugins > Allow scripts to:
"Disable or replace context menus" is *not* ticked. With that option
ticked, only Google's menu appears. Perhaps that might help.

SeaMonkey 2.40 on Windows Vista

Pretty good idea. However using or not the "ESC" key permit me to choose
one of the two context menus.

I am in southern California. My Internet connetion is through Spectrum
(Time Warner Cable).

This morning, I was having severe problems with the Internet. SeaMonkey
would timeout trying to load Web pages. Many pages did not even try to
load because of DNS failures. I could not send or receive E-mail via
Thunderbird. Two different anti-virus applications complained they
could not access their servers for database updates. Etc, etc.

Things seem to be working better this afternoon.

This morning, it was indeed the Internet and not an E-mail server. The
problem existed for at least four different applications that are
neither browsers nor E-mail clients. It might have been either a
Spectrum or backbone problem. The problem went away around 10:30am PST.

Speedtest from me to (at about 4:25pm PST):
New York, NY -- 102ms ping, 69.7 Mbps download, 6.0 Mbps upload
Saskatoon, SK, Canada (where my daughter lives) -- 84ms ping, 66.7 Mbps
download, 6.0 Mbps upload
London, UK -- 153ms ping, 62.1 Mbps download, 5.9 Mbps upload
Tucson, AZ -- 32ms ping, 70.9 Mbps download, 6.0 Mbps upload

just got yet another failure notice from the Cox e'mail servers... on my
desktop... even though my phone can download... strange, was able to
download mail yesterday on the dekstop & laptop. Could Cox possibly be
rejecting Mozilla based clients, my other half still having same issue
on Thunderbird in Win10?

I have the same problem.
A friend using

X-Mailer: Microsoft Office Outlook 12.0

Send me mails where he insert a smiling face ... But SM see only in the mail the letter
"J"

It is possible that the sender selected an emoticon character from a
font containing graphics instead of keying colon-rightparenthesis. That
character in other fonts might indeed be the letter J. This is an
ongoing problem caused by Microsoft devotees who fail to understand that
not everyone uses Microsoft E-mail applications.

Ah. Yeah. Sad face turns into L. :(

Google Search Tools broken

2016-12-07 Thread Hawker
Yesterday Google's search broke for using the "Settings" or "Tools"
feature in SM 2.40 for me. It works in Firefox still.
If I try to use Tools I get the "any time" and "all results" to the
right of Tools not below as it should be. I can't click on the time to
change it.

I tried an new clean profile with the same results.
Any idea? Maybe it is time to update.
If I do update what version? The new 2.46 just put out or one of the
newer builds (2.47/2.48)? I'm not so worried about exploits as I am
about functionality.

What I did was
1) rename /opt/seamonkey to /opt/seamonkey-2.40
(to keep a backup in case of trouble)
2) uncompress Adrian's tarball to /opt => creates /opt/seamonkey

That way, all the desktop gizmos you mention point
to the new version, and still work.

I am not sufficiently versed in this area to work with your build as it
stands in this directory. Can you prepare a .deb as well to stand in
for that which will be available via ubuntuzilla once an official build

A compressed archive (tgz) is more general than a deb package.
Just uncompress the archive to e.g. /opt and run from there.
(uncompress as root, but run as you)

I don't see a .tgz file in Adrian's server, but I do see a .tar.bz2 file
which I downloaded to inspect from the *release-linux64 directory.

Looking at the contents of the .tar.bz2 and comparing it with
/opt/seamonkey does show a good correspondence of files with a few
missing or added files. Checking the Synaptic package manager shows
that in addition to the /opt/seamonkey directory there are a few other
files:

/usr/bin/seamonkey
/usr/share/applications/seamonkey-mozilla-build.desktop
/usr/share/pixmaps/seamonkey-mozilla-build.png

The first of these is a link to the executable, so I assume I would
likely need to recreate this if I were to install the unofficial version
over 2.40 here. The other two files define the desktop interface and I
would expect them to continue without problems.

Thank you for your suggestion. I am going to consider this option.

There is a thunderbird add on for that. Unfortunately I cannot remember
what it's called. But I had it installed on another computer and it
worked well. Maybe it will work with seamonkey. The problem is
Microsoft.

Preferences > Advanced > Scripts & Plugins > Allow scripts to: "Disable
or replace context menus" is *not* ticked. With that option ticked, only
Google's menu appears. Perhaps that might help.

I am in southern California. My Internet connetion is through Spectrum
(Time Warner Cable).

This morning, I was having severe problems with the Internet. SeaMonkey
would timeout trying to load Web pages. Many pages did not even try to
load because of DNS failures. I could not send or receive E-mail via
Thunderbird. Two different anti-virus applications complained they
could not access their servers for database updates. Etc, etc.

Things seem to be working better this afternoon.

Just uncompress the archive to e.g. /opt and run from there.

Virtual Machine = Virtual Performance

Well, I'm no expert on virtualization, but on modern solutions,
user-space code runs at native speed (directly on bare metal).
Only privileged instructions actually require special handling.
And of course, device access as well.

I suppose compiling a large project like Firefox/Seamonkey may
require many storage accesses. One way to test would be to
store the whole source code on a RAM drive :-)

We run VBox on Mac for Win7 x64 VM on SSDs. Apps run well enough but not

See if you can find something in SeaMonkey similar to what I have in
Thunderbird. After all, they both use a common MailNews core.

In Thunderbird, I select [Tools > Options] on the menu bar. On the
Options window, I select [Display > Formatting] and check the checkbox
for "Display emoticons as graphics".

I know the following do work:

You might have to view the source of this reply to see the markups for
these emoticons. There might be others.

I've never found a reason to create a .deb package for SeaMonkey. I
typically run it from /home/seamonkey - but if you prefer you can simply
install it into /usr/local/seamonkey /opt/seamonkey etc:

"There is no installer available, but just extracting the tar.bz2 to the
default directory (usually /usr/local/seamonkey) achieves the same
result as an installer would. "

The key advantage to keeping it simple and running from the extracted
tar.bz2 is that you can uninstall with 'sudo rm -R
//seamonkey' && rm /home//.mozilla/seamonkey.
Done. You don't have artifacts of the program scattered all over your
system like you might with a .deb package install.

Best instructions I've found:
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/cvs/xsoft/seamonkey.html
That is for 2.40, but you can apply the same to whatever version you wish.
It's a good idea to review the TOC:
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/view/cvs/index.html
If you run into problems ask on the dev list & I'm sure that someone
there will be happy to assist.

I disagree.

The whole point of having a source control system like Mercurial
is that each patch-set precisely defines the changes required for
a given fix/feature. Back porting a patch-set to an older release
may conflict, but it's not rocket science either.

All of my 2.1 and 2.2 builds (windows and linux) show the cZ icon.

2016-12-07 Thread Frank-Rainer Grahl
If you have a working build environment save yourself the trouble and
just build from comm-release. 2.47 is stable but requires VS2015 Update 3.

Full build will take around 3h to 5h on my Thinkpad X200s and 30 to 40
minutes on my desktop. Both in a vm. Native sure is faster.

Even if you get the right snippet of code that fixes the issue, it may depend
on other bits of code and fall over. This is an instance where grafting in
the code probably will fail. Use Adrian's build, save yourself the trouble. =)

His builds should have the security patches missing from 2.40 that have been
added to Firefox since version 43.0 was released. About 29 of them listed as
critical...

I threw away my /comm-central/ directory, too much work to let my sources
compile... ;-)

for an

immediately! I have been using IMAP to access Gmail for over a

it was working well, but version 2.47 would crash every time I
tried to
compose an e-mail, or tried to reply to an e-mail (although I could

without seeing if there were additional issues with 2.47. of 2048 -

Does anyone know why this would have happened?

Do you have a link to the crash report?

Version 2.47 opened and error report window and sent it each time
that I
had an error.

You may need to try and start in Safe Mode. You ought to be able to
hold down Shift and start SM and it should start or prompt for Safe
Mode.

I'm having the same problem, both on the newest (64 bit) version of
either 2.47 or 2.48. The compose window even crashes in safe mode!

I've just updated to a newer version of SM 2.48 - build ID
20161206210551. The new version solves the problem of crashes while
composing an email,

Thanks for the update.
