Just for the record. My problem was caused by installing 2.94.5 on a new
machine then attempting to copy an older profile on to that machine. The
Old profile is still backed up on the old hard drive, but I couldn't get
the Lightning extension to work.

You must have missed my earlier post about problems using an older
profile with the 2.49.5. In fact the correct version of Lightning
wasn't in the older profile and I couldn't find a working extension
to install. The older profile wasn't properly updated so I had to
figure out where it was and copy it into the older profile which I did.

Well there are the release notes too...

Known Issues
Lightning or one of the distributed extensions is not showing up or is
disabled under Add-ons.

FRG

Having looked at those release notes, BACK UP YOUR PROFILE FOLDER (while
Seamonkey is not running) BEFORE INSTALLING 2.49.5.
Several things can potentially go wrong, and the first start of 2.49.5
makes the profile unusable for 2.49.4 so simply dropping down a level
causes part of the profile to be marked as corrupt and reinitialised.
I have 3 machines which use the same profile, one "master" and two where
I sometimes replace the profile with a new copy of the master.
The two copies are going to be upgraded first, although I'll wait for
2.49.5 to appear in the repository rather than going proactive.

If I'm not unlucky the problems won't affect my setup anyway.

I have installed the new 64 bit version over a 32 bit version
successfully. Apparently some people have had problems. My particular
situation was attempting to transfer an old profile to a new install.

You don't need the Lightning Extension.  Lightning now is built into
the SeaMonkey email app. Get rid of the lightning extension...its not
needed.

Okay, so nobody uses Lightning in SeaMonkey?

Then I won't file a bug report.

It's becoming more common that sites are complaining about User Agent
strings that show Firefox 52 (and not accounting for SeaMonkey). This is
especially true with banks and other financial institutions. One of my
own institutions is throwing alerts, although letting me ignore their
pleas to upgrade to a current version of Firefox, Edge, Safari or
Chrome, or even IE 11 (!).

If you spoof, showing:

what happens?

If you're still getting funky response, it may not be browser issue, so
much as something with your profile. Beyond Safe Mode, you might also
want to consider:

- Flush the cache and cookies. It could be that there's something in
the cache causing problem

- Consider using the Profiles Manager to create a new profile (for
testing). Although Safe Mode is a way of setting a lot of prefs to
default condition, it tends to be best on things relating to add-ons.
However, it won't help with some of your prefs, such as cookie handling.
A new profile will give you all default settings. In this context, a
quick way of telling whether the problem is generically with Seamonkey
2.49.5, or something that's more specific to your profile.

In this case, I'm betting on your profile.

fine.

What about changing user agent to like Firefox? Does that work? If not,
then it looks like the web site doesn't support old web browsers like
SeaMonkey, Firefox v52 (could try that too), etc.

This is about compatability with Firefox - they had a certificate
expired disaster so Seamonkey was also due one.  The consequences
appear to be relatively minor though.

REALLY a MINOR PROBLEM ? when we cannont go to
https://www.seamonkey-project.org/start/ ?

Ditto. This would scare users. We don't want that!

That was the first page I saw after installing SM 2.49.5 last night and
it still opens to it with no problem today.

All the links work and if in another link like
and I click the "Home" button in
the toolbar it loads the "Start" page just fine.

I get the certificate error popup with both of those two links and also
when I select the blue "Go to the SeaMonkey home page" button in the
upper-right corner of the SeaMonkey window.

I understand there is a bug report on this. What is the bug number?

Bug #1580858, from the initial post in this thread.

It also mentions https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1574757.
We wait again for someone to fix this. :(

I can log in, the problem is that something goes wacky thereafter.
Until yesterday there was no problem, but then instead of getting a
proper display I see what appear to be portions of scripting of some
sort as opposed to their values. I had thought they might have been
having server problems of some sort and perhaps their back end was not
returning the data requested, but it continues today. This lead me to
try out other browsers, and I found that the current FireFox displays it
fine.

first real problem I've seen with 2.49.5

2019-09-13 Thread David H. Durgee
For the first time I have encountered a problem with a website that can
only be resolved by using another browser. It appears that Pepco has
made recent changes that make it unusable with 2.49.5 here. I was able
to use it with the current FireFox, so I am hopeful that the next
release will fix this one.

I have seen posts from others about problems with other websites, so
this is hardly unique. It is simply the first time I have encountered
it with a website that I visit on a regular basis.

This leads me to ask when the next release will be published. I know
that progress is being made, I simply wonder how much longer it will
take to get it into shape to replace 2.49.5 and hopefully address this
and many other problems.

Thank you again to all working on SeaMonkey, I look forward to being
able to continue to use it for a long time.
