Can one just install the latest version or must one install an
intermediate version first and then the latest.

Also is there a source of the steps to follow when upgrading?

Of course the first thing I did was reinstall Seamonkey.
How does one check for a corrupted/repair a profile?
Yes, It happens with all attachments.
The only way to open a attachment without it happening is to copy the
attachment and open it outside of Seamonley ie on the desktop.

Issue with Seamonkey 2.49.5

My wife uses Seamonkey 2.49.5 and if she tries to open an attachment as
well as other files, mainly while in mail, Seamonkey starts flashing on
and off and each time it opens a new tain Seamonkey until there are
dozens of tabs open.

While this is going on, task manager cannot be used to close Seamonkey
The only way to stop it is to shut down the computer and reboot.
Please advise.

Spoofing (?) in Seamonkey

2020-03-10 Thread Chuck

I have been using Seamonkey for years now mainly for email and browsing.
I know there a many things in Seamonkey I don't have a clue about but
since I never use them,

I have not needed to understand them.
However one thing I would like to understand (and don't) is "spoofing",
or whatever the proper term is.
I just had to go to Firefox to do my taxes because Turbotax would not
run in Seamonkey.
Is there a source which I  could access to learn to use this feature in
Seamonkey.

Remember I am a just  a basic user of Seamonkey

NFN Smith wrote:

By your description, it looks like that you're one of the people that
saves *everything* that ever touches your mailbox. If you're routinely
compacting, I suggest a couple of things for consideration:

1) Be more aggressive in discarding message traffic that has no ongoing
value. In my own context, that includes things like "me too" and
"thanks" messages (especially ones that quote complete content of
previous messages).

2) Look at getting attachments out of your mail store -- I think that
that's where the bulk of your accumulation is. One of the tools that's
really useful in both Seamonkey and Thunderbird is the "detach"
function. It's something of hybrid of "save as" and "delete". If you
right-click on an attachment and detach, that allows saving the
attachment to somewhere in your file system, and then deletes the
attachment from your mail store. As long as the saved attachment isn't
moved or deleted, then when you view the message, the attachment is
still visible, as if it was still in your mail store.

I have found this to be true on many users cluttered mail files, be it
SM, TB, Outlook etc. Gmail is the worse violator as it saves duplicates
of the emails and attachments in multiple folders. Deleting attachments
in one folder, does not usually update the other saved message copies in
the other Gmail folders.

Sorting the folders by size, you can easily find the culprits of large
attachments, Save/delete the attachments for all your folders, then
compact the folders. It will delete many GB's if you're a heavy user of
attachments.

Message content can be manipulated using multiple steps. Select
message, then Message>Edit As New>Save as Draft. While in draft folder,
it will have the Edit Draft option. Move the draft message to
appropriate folder, and the Edit icon goes away. Saving the file, will
flip it to an .html format on the drive, but not in SM.

My First Problem With Seamonkey 2.49.4

2019-08-02 Thread Chuck
I am mostly just a Seamonkey user. Not by any means a technical type
when it comes to Seamonkey and all the issues with "spoofing" etc. so

please understand if I don't understand what just happened,
For the first time (for me ) Seamonkey failed to open a web page.
I have a wireless account with  AT&T and monthly I get an email notice
that my account is due. I click on the link and make a payment
This month the page hung with a notice "Almost there. Please wait a
moment" and then nothing. It just hung.
This happened three days in a row and finally I contacted AT&T and asked
for help. In the process the tech suggested i try a different browser.

I copied the link into Firefox and the page opened immediately.
Is there a way to fix this in Seamonkey?

Email Font Problem

2016-09-25 Thread Chuck
When I started my computer this morning, I discovered that the email
font size had changed with no input from me.

I am using Seamonkey 2.40 and Windows XP Pro sp3.
I am using the "Wide View;" two panes in the upper position and one wide
lower pane.
The left side upper pane contains my folders ie Inbox, Drafts Sent, and
Trash.

The right side upper pane contains the titles of downloaded emails.
The lower pane is for opened emails.

As of this morning the two upper pane text has changed to a tiny size.
It is very hard for these 75 year old eyes to read.

The lower on is fine (at least so far).
Does anyone know why this should happen and how to resize the text in
the upper panes?

Highlight entry, right click, then select 'delete'

Or highlight entry, then click on 'delete' button above (that toolbar may need

Please bottom-post in this forum, thanks.

A couple of thoughts. But first, I assume what you mean by "download" is
"save the file to my disk." Because if you're viewing it on your
computer, you've already downloaded (received) it. You just don't know
where SeaMonkey is holding it -- in memory, a temp file, whatever.

1) If you're happy with PDFs opening in SeaMonkey but want the option of
saving them to disk, you already have it. With the file open in SM, just
do File | Save As... and go from there. You'll note that the file type
is already set to Adobe Acrobat (version number), so you don't need to
worry about the file getting corrupted or anything.

2) If you want PDFs to trigger an offer to save to disk, check your
settings under Edit | Preferences | Browser | Helper Applications. There
will probably be several PDF file types because PDFs are served with
several MIME types. Change the setting(s) to "Always Ask." Then
SeaMonkey will ask for a decision each time. I find this a bit of a
bother, YMMV.

One other terminology note: "reload" doesn't mean the same as
"reinstall." "Load" and "reload" just mean "read (a file or program) off
a disk into working memory." What you did was probably reinstall the
program.

War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left. -- Paul B. Gallagher
Yes, I have done that (always ask) but the file is never saved to disk.

IMAP Email File Restore

2014-10-13 Thread Chuck
Experimenting with Gmail and and my Gmail IMAP account. I really hate
the ALL Mail in Gmail, especially now.

So I backed up copies of my mail files for IMAP, then deleted all the
files in All Mail to see what would happen.

Everything wound up in trash, including all Inbox, Important, Starred
and Sent mail. Thinking this is like POP3 files, I'll just copy them
back over, no problem. So I deleted them, closed and reopened. Empty,
good.

So I copy them back over into the IMAP folder and reopen. As soon as I
access them, the files (synching with Gmail server I reckon) all
disappear again. So I turned off check messages on start up and timed.

Retried, and same issue - as soon as you access the folder, it synchs
and they disappear again.

So, the question is, "Is there a way to restore these files so that the
Gmail server doesn't make them disappear as soon as it sinks up.

Thx
Chuck

Now it looks ugly? It functions just as well.

The basic mail version is NOTHING what the OLD Yahoo mail used to look

they have today. I think they make it look like crap to get people to
switch over to the new version of mail, where it's easier for them to

Greyed Out Text in Emails

2014-04-07 Thread Chuck

I have had this problem in Seamonkey for a long time.
For no reason I can account for, at some point, when I open one of my
email files

the text changes from black to greyed out and is very difficult to read.
It may or may not change back to black further down the file.
Can anyone offer a solution to this?
Thanks,

Email Pane Greyed out

2014-03-11 Thread Chuck

I use MailWasher to control my email.
After editing content, you can open the email service automatically from
MailWasher.
But, when I use this feature, the email window opens with the email
panel greyed out.

The folder pane is fine.
I have tried everything I can think of to correct this but with no success.
If I open the email window in Seamonkey, this doesn't happen.
Suggestions?

Go to Account Settings for the email account you want to change. Look
under Server Settings, the default is 10 minutes, and you can change

What about "duplicate" entries; keep or toss? (Duplicate could mean same URL,
or same URL and same title, or ... ?)

If you know how to query databases you could use sqlite3. I would play with
it for a while (SELECT from places.sqlite and INSERT entries into a new
table). http://www.sqlite.org/download.html

Then I must have a virus of some kind on my computer, because Javascript

Also, now on Firefox, a popup to local-news-online.com keeps poping up

Yahoo, because any link I click opens 3 tabs to realtor sites.

I haven't downloaded anything new other than Firefox, and the newest
version of SeaMonkey and Flash after YouTube quit working.

Anybody know of a good program to search and rid my computer of
hijackers? I treid Ad-Aware, but after searching for almost an hour, it
deleted Yahelite, and a bunch of other stuff that weren't even trojans.

The ads still pop up and nothing can seem to detect it.

The quota is on your mail server.

You can say to Seamonkey to delete the messages after some days, I
usually use 15 days.

Well
I monkeyed (pun intended) around with these settings and the 98% alert

One interesting thing is that when I change the delete mail messages

Would appreciate any further advice.
