You can use the standard Yahoo IMAP settings without jumping through the

Using POP3 or IMAP?  Yahoo said some time ago that they would be
discontinuing POP3 at some point in the future.

I am having no such problems with my IMAP Yahoo email as of two
hours ago when I received my last email there.

Dave

Thank for your response.

I had been set up using POP3.  Where do I find instructions for
changing the account to IMAP?

Unfortunately you cannot change an account from POP3 to IMAP, you will
need to set up a new account.

Dave

Thanks for your note.

I'm now thoroughly confused.

1) Can I use the same name as on the existing POP account?
2) If so, will all of the present e-mail subscriptions automatically
transfer?

3) Do you have any suggestions on how to proceed (or what NOT to do)?

This is for Thunderbird but it's close enough to SeaMonkey to get you
started.

The "Transfer your local messages to the server" section can take some

On SeaMonkey v2.53.5.1, the page opens slowly and frequently presents an
error message saying the service is temporarily unavailable. Immediately
re-loading always opens the page within a few more seconds.

This is a relatively recent problem, going on for about 2 months. It was
never an issue previously.

Using this link prevents the connection from timing out, but it still
takes much longer to load with SeaMonkey than with Firefox.

https://connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/#waitSeconds=60

To a certain extent, this seems to depend on how long it has been since
the last time I visited the page. The longer it has been, (a few hours
compared to a few minutes) the more likely that it will time-out.

Just another instance of a page that is somehow less compatible with
SeaMonkey than with Firefox.

Why are these issues of browser incompatibility on the increase? Thanks!

John

This one may be a little bit of a personal quirk, but my handling of
email going to my work account and primary personal account is done
where I let the Seamonkey password manager remember my password for SMTP
and LDAP access, but where I don't allow it to remember for POP access.
To me, because I have complex passwords, it's useful to have to enter
those regularly, as a way of ensuring that I never forget them -- and
there are occasions where it is useful to know that I have them
memorized, without having to rely on my external password manager.

I'm used to the idea that a password needs to be entered once per
session, and since I have Seamonkey open all day, entering those
passwords once per day is an acceptable intrusion, if I don't have need
to restart Seamonkey.

However, I'm seeing that after a few hours open, Seamonkey seems to be
forgetting the entered passwords, and where I have to manually re-enter
to check for new mail.  I just upgraded to 2.53.5.1 it's still
happening.  I haven't watched closely, but this seems to have started
happening since 2.53.4.  Is there some change to Seamonkey that would
cause the difference in handling?

I checked my server settings, and I have one set to check for new
messages every 15 minutes and the other every 30 minutes. I've
experimented with lowering both to 5 minute intervals, and I'm still
seeing the same effect. I'm not sure how frequently I have to re-enter
passwords, but over the course of about 9 hours, I have to re-enter at
least twice.

Should I just accept things, and let Seamonkey remember my POP passwords?

Smith

I noticed similar behavior beginning in 2.53.4. I'm now entering IMAP
passwords several times a day instead of when first opening SeaMonkey Mail.

How to turn off the Kaspersky security exception warnings in SeaMonkey:
1. Open Edit -> Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Certificates
2. Open Manage Certificates
3. Select the Authorities tab, click Import...
4. Navigate to the location of the Kaspersky certificate. On my system
this is at C:/ProgramData/Kaspersky Lab/AVP20.0/Data/Cert/

5. Select the CERT file there and click Open
6. Once installed restart SeaMonkey

You may need to repeat after any major update to the Kaspersky code base
(not the daily database updates).

NOTE: In step #4, you might enter a different user agent (UA) string if
you know of a more recent one for Firefox or one for a Mac instead of
this one, which is for Windows.

I found the useragent override was not sufficient for accessing Chase

unseen non-Chase domain. The site does work when I use the "User Agent

One of my credit unions (I belong to two) has a navigation bar along the
left edge of every page. The Logoff link is at the bottom. The
navigation bar is NOT scrollable. I cannot see the Logoff link even if
I maximize the SeaMonkey winodw. Thus, to log off, I must use F11.
Even then, I have to collapse any of the navigation items I have expanded.

Also, I have to enable third-party cookies to see my monthly statements.

This appears to definitely use features only available in a later

loops while loading without end, so I have to spoof Firefox 52 ESR to
get it to load at all.

But as I noted in my post above of 22/09/19 23:15, this still

a)    doesn't actually work now, and

b)    couldn't work in general since the mapping URL -> bookmark can
be undefined (bookmark (n)-->(1) URL).

Here's a video of me testing it just now:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku146eK_wS0

Maybe we're referring to different things?

Unfortunately not, and many thanks for going to the effort of snapping
the video.

Obviously there's some difference in our configurations because when I
do a similar test the bookmarked URL gets added to the built-in "Other
Bookmarks" folder and that folder is highlighted.

My bookmark folder hierarchy is like that shown in the folder pane of
your Bookmarks Manager window:

 Tags
 All Bookmarks
     >Bookmarks Toolbar
     >Bookmarks Menu
 Other Bookmarks

Ignoring for the moment why this behaviour is different for me, it
illustrates the general problem that, if the bookmark hierarchy includes
different bookmarks for the same URL, the address bar bookmark editor
can only identify one of them.

The Parent Folder extension (discussed in the thread above) works within
the Bookmarks Manager and so can (and does) show the immediate parent in
a column of the bookmark search results.

/df

It's a bit of a pain but Chris' method works for me.
For example, I have an Ally Bank (http://www.ally.com) bookmark in my
Financial folder.
If I click on the bookmark I'm redirected to https://www.ally.com and
the default action for the bookmark icon in the location bar is Add
Bookmark.
If I edit the properties of the bookmark and change the URL to https...
then click it the bookmark icon (now with a green-ish background) opens
the Edit Bookmark dialog.

True, the Edit dialog will apply only to the bookmark clicked.

1. Go to the bookmarked page.
2. Click on the bookmark icon in the location bar. Beside "Folder", it
should tell you the name of the folder the bookmark resides in.
3. If you don't know where that folder is located, click on the down
arrow beside it, which will open the folder tree.

The problem with this approach is that if the bookmarked URL now
redirects to a different location (or even replaces 'http' with https')
the bookmark icon just creates a new bookmark instead of opening the
Edit Bookmark dialog.

Is there another way?  I have not found one.

Hold down the Shift key when you click on the "Compose" icon in the tool

magnifier glass it will search. Now in IE you can not even type
into the search filed at all. In Chrome everything work as you
would expect.

Anyone know why this is the case?

Thank you for you assistance.

https://bluemail.help/search/?badge?lang=en

Don't know why. Well...

But if I start typing in the search field I get a drop-down with
some results I could select.

SeaMonkey also doesn't show the "How can we help you?" text I see
using Firefox 64.0. I also see what I type into the search field
using that browser.

Walt, could it be that FF has access to required font ... one that SM
doesn't have access to??

I'm just seeing a blank search bar ... but the cursor is progressing
across the search bar as I type!! Even if I type the first topic in
the provided list "Displaying an Unread Badge on Android "!

Why wouldn't SeaMonkey have access to the font if my Firefox does.
Font packages are installed on the computers hard drive. No?

The problem is here ...

style="width:50%;margin:5px auto 0 auto;background:none;color:white"
Text in white with background in white. Have you see the horrible page
source text ? :-)

Why doesn't the text render white in Firefox, and yes I did see the page
source.

Perhaps Chrome is more tolerant (when it should not) of invalid CSS.
There are 29 CSS errors in the HTML file and 220 CSS warnings in its
related CSS file.

I wouldn't know about Chrome. Not installed here.

The site works in Firefox Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64;
rv:64.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/64.0.

The font is not white, it's a medium gray, you just can't see the text
in SM. The CSS defines the input field height as about 2.25 units, but
the padding plus text that has to fit inside is over four units high.

FF and SM for some reason have different behaviors in this situation: I
suspect FF (and others) first displays the text then attempts to
implement the padding. SM probably applies the padding first and then
there is no room to display the text.

Use the Developer Tools window to remove the padding and SM displays the
entered text.

The answer is still Bad CSS.

Re: SeaMonkey v.2.49.4 and Kaspersky Internet Security 2019

to this problem has been to retain the current KIS license but revert to
KIS 2015.

In trying to make KIS 2019 work, I queried Kaspersky Support.  They sent
me instructions for inserting a KIS 19 certificate into FireFox (FF).
These instructions don't seem very useful as SM and FF have become quite
different - as I understand it.

Has anyone else had this SM/KIS security certificate incompatibility
problem?  How was the problem solved?

Alternatively, would it be worth my trying to replace the security
certificate file in SM v.2.49.4 with the KIS 2019 security certificate
file?  If so, where is the SM 2.49.4 security certificate file located?

I see a 'cert8.db' entry in the 'Mozilla' folder that has the same date
as when I installed KIS 2019.  If it sounds like I am pretty much
confused, I am.  I am 81 years old and haven't been up-to-date on
software construction in years and didn't know all that much to start with.

All help will be useful and much appreciated.

Edit -> Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Certificates
Manage Certificates, Authorities tab
Import
Browse to the location of the Kaspersky certificate, here it's:
C:\ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab\AVP19.0.0\Data\Cert\1.cert
Click Open

Re: Google.com malfunction with SM 2.49.4

2018-09-25 Thread Lemuel Johnson via support-seamonkey

I'm also having problems with google.com. Specifically the google search function
using both Seamonkey version 2.49.3 & the latest version, 2.49.4. When trying
to type anything in the Google Search Box, it only uses the upper left corner of
the box, and when you get to 19 characters, the beginning of what was typed becomes
hidden if what you are trying to ask is longer than the 19 characters. If you copy
and paste something into the box, only the last 19 characters are visible.

On 9/11/18 I posted my problem on the Google Search Help Forum, found here:
https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/d/msgid/websearch/e4a0cbeb-a533-4b62-b714-fab0ef77e111%40googleproductforums.com?utm_medium=email&utm_source=footer

On 9/16/18 I replied to my own post with an answer to the problem I found by doing more
digging. It seems that unchecking the "Advertise Firefox compatibility" option
found in the Seamonkey preferences allows the search box to function as it should: The
original link to the answer can be found here:
https://productforums.google.com/d/msg/websearch/w6JUJvS5nMw/6QzWOLY_CQAJ

At first all seemed to function as it should until I realized that the actual search page looks different when the
"Advertise Firefox compatibility" option is unchecked compared to when it's checked. I also found that the
search settings cannot be changed when the "Advertise Firefox compatibility" option is unchecked. A much
greater issue I discovered was the fact that when searching for photos with the "Advertise Firefox
compatibility" option is unchecked, the results page not only shows a page of photos, it also includes a 4 to 5
line description under each of 20 photos returned from the search. I attempted to find an option to turn off the photo
descriptions, but the option doesn't exist. The only way to remove the photo descriptions is to re-check the
"Advertise Firefox compatibility" option. By re-checking the option none of the photos include a description
under them. Also the search settings functions now works as they should.

This is becoming very frustrating and a real pain in the butt... From what I've learned
the problem most likely is directly related to the Seamonkey User Agent, but I've been
unable figure out how to create a user agent string that functions correctly with Google
Search. With the "Advertise Firefox compatibility" option unchecked seamonkey
reports my user agent as: User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:52.0)
Gecko/20100101 SeaMonkey/2.49.4 When the option is checked, the user agent is: User
agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
SeaMonkey/2.49.4

To their credit, I guess, Google programmers made the effort to write
special CSS code used for just for Gecko-based, non-Firefox browsers.
Unfortunately they botched the job as shown by the search entry box problem.

I fixed the problem with about 25 lines of .css code in my
userContent.css file, but that was going to break again as soon as they
changed something. So I removed all that and just added an override in
about:config:

general.useragent.override.google.com:  Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1;
Win64; x64; rv:61.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/61.0

Fixed. I've already had to add overrides for Chase, Yahoo and the post
office, at this point what's one more?

I do not have this problem.

Is that your SM's UA? If so, then how come not its default "User
agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101
Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.4)"?

I reported this in

I don't know if that will work. Is there an official way to do it? Does
anyone have official connections to their web site search team? ;)

To their credit, the Google programmers made the effort to generate
specific code for the search results page that they serve to SeaMonkey
and (probably) other Gecko-based browsers that aren't FireFox.
Unfortunately they botched the job, using, for example, one CSS
directive ("moz-flex-wrap") that never existed and breaks the input
field layout.

They should just forget the browser-specific moz-box code since all
Gecko browsers have supported the "flex" box model for years.

It depends on how the cookie is created.  From

Domain= Optional
Specifies those hosts to which the cookie will be sent. If not
specified, defaults to the host portion of the current document

specifications, leading dots in domain names are ignored. If a domain

If you allow cookies from yyy.zzz and a cookie is created without the
optional "Domain" parameter cookies from xxx.yyy.zzz are not allowed.
They ARE allowed if the Domain is specified.

Thank you.  I think I understand this.

Another question (sort of the previous one in reverse):
If I block all cookies and allow cookies from https://aaa.xxx.yyy,
are cookies from https://xxx.yyy allowed?  I assumed not, but I've
seen several cases where Cookie Manager lists cookies from the
latter.  Does this also depend on whether or not the Domain is
specified in the cookie?

A useful tool for evaluating the options:
