I guess I'm o.k. regarding the compatibility check - I didn't get any warning when I opened the extensions list in Add-On Manager. Sorry if I wasn't clear about SM - I was referring to using the "compose" button which opens up a blank e-mail for sending a message. I didn't mean using "Composer". When I try to send an e-mail message, everything freezes. I find however that I can send a message if it's a "Reply". Disabling Folderpane Tools didn't make any difference. I like the suggestion of re-arranging the order, but I don't think I could handle any "hacking". Perhaps there's an even easier way to do this? Well, the bit of hacking I meant was to get around the version compatibility checking. But actually, you only need to run this add-on *once*, and it can later be disabled or removed. So, instead of a more permanent workaround, you may just temporarily disable the compatibility check. So, going step by step: 1. Disable compatibility check. This page gives detailed instructions (they are intended for Firefox, but they work the same in Seamonkey): http://dotnetwizard.net/soft-apps/firefox-3-beta-4-disabling-extension-compatibility-check/ 2. Install FolderPane Tools either from http://www.chuonthis.com/extensions/folderpane.php or from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/258 3. After restarting Seamonkey, go to the Add-On Manager and click on the "Options" button for Folderpane Tools. Use it to reorganize your folders. Restart Seamonkey again 4. After you are happy with the way your mail windows looks, you may disable/remove Folderpane Tools and reinstate compatibility checking (no need to do all the stuff on step 1, the Add-On Manager will give a one-click fix for this). The install instruction at the download site (www.chuonthis.com)stated to save the file to [SeaMonkey] but I don't know which file to use. 1) c:\Documents & Settings\sony\Application Data\Mozilla\Seamonkey ? If you wish to change the way the accounts are ordered in the left pane of the mail client, the easiest way I know of is by using the Folderpane Tools add-on: http://www.chuonthis.com/extensions/folderpane.php Unfortunately, that needs a bit of hacking too, since it is a bit old and does not list itself as compatible with Seamonkey 2. Not a unique situation, but there are plenty of messages teaching how to work around the version compatibility check... Thanks, all good answers and offer me an easy way to deal with my problem. I will go with just leaving it be. So, how do I stop SM from opening the old account first when I open SM? Thanks, Ed MCBastos wrote: Interviewed by CNN on 1/1/2010 17:21, OldTimer told the world: I'm running SM 2.0.1 on Win XP SP2. In the accounts panel on the left side of the SM main screen, I have 2 accounts with many folders: 1)an old account with an ISP I'm going to close (it's dial-up). and 2) a new account (DSL) with some similar and some different folders from the old account. As mail senders began using my new address, I set up new folders. I don't have all the same folders and I don't have all the folders that are in my old account and I have new ones that aren't in the old account. I want to merge/transfer? all my old mail messages to my new account, delete my old account and ensure that the address book is retained. Is there an quick way to do this? I discovered that I could drag mail messages from the old account to the new - but this would be tedious even if I could transfer whole folders (I'm haven't tried this yet). Is the old account a POP account? If so, you don't really have to do anything, you can keep the folder as they are right now -- just go to the account settings and disable all the "check mail" options instead of removing the account, so Seamonkey won't keep bothering you with error messages. If you really wish to move the message folders from one account to another, you might try this: 1. Close Seamonkey (very important) 2. Locate your profile folder: in XP, it's probably C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\[random string].default\ 3. You will find a "mail" subfolder and, within it, more subfolders named after your mail& news accounts. 4. Just move the files you will find within to the new place you wish them to be, in the folder for your new DSL account. Some notes: - You don't really have to move the small files with .msf extension; Seamonkey will recreate them automatically the first time you open the folder. - File folders named.sbd hold the archives to the mail folders contained within mail folder. For instance, if you have a subfolder for named, then you will find: a file called inbox, a folder called inbox.sbd, and a file called oldstuff inside the folder inbox.sbd. - You can rename files. However, if they have a corresponding folder, be careful to rename both the same way. 5. Open Seamonkey: the folders will be found in their new places. If it's an IMAP account, though, you probably should create new folders -- either in the "Local folders" pseudo-account or in a "phantom" account -- and copy/move the messages there -- manually. It's a lot of a work, sure. But IMAP stores the messages in your ISP's computer, and Seamonkey keeps just a local cache to speed up access -- which may or may not be complete. The Seamonkey address book is global (not linked to individual accounts), so you don't have to do anything. ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

Install 7.2 and run it, allowing it to convert your profile. Open 7.2 and verify that the data is there. Then you transfer this profile to the new machine. Install 7.2 on the new machine, and point it to the profile you have moved. I can point you to directions on how to do this. Once you are sure you no longer need the data in the old NC 4.5 profile, you can uninstall 4.5. Lee I wasn't able to download 7.2 from the "releases" page. But I did locate a NS 7.1 CD. Is this version O.K.? Ed ___ support-seamonkey mailing list support-seamonkey@lists.mozilla.org https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/support-seamonkey

With help from references supplied by Martin I have completed the following steps: As the old PC only has a floppy drive (A:), I have exported the address book (LDIF) to a floppy disc by the following steps: Opened Netscape and clicked on "Address Book", selected the address book and from the File menu I chose "Export". In the "Export As" window, I typed a file name and exported it to the floppy drive (A:). For the mail files, I went to C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\ and opened User1 & User2 folders and copied the Inbox.sbd, Inbox, Sent, Unsent Messages, & Draft files (not .msf) to the floppy disc. Where there was any duplication of file names with those on the laptop, I renamed them (eg. InboxOld1, xxxOld2). I then zipped the mail files on the floppy to a zip folder and copied it and the Address Book to a CD-RW disc (the laptop does not have a floppy drive). I now intend to open the compressed files on the CD with the laptop and copy them into the equivilant folders/files in my Profiles folder (abook.mab, Inbox, Sent, etc.). I hope this all makes sense as I would appreciate some feedback before I proceed, to assure me that I'm on the right track and have taken the right steps so far. An old-timer trying to keep up. Ed Darn, Win 95. I never really used it. I did use Win 98. I would be better if this was Mac OS9. ;) You will be able to install Netscape 7.2 on Windows 95. If you did, it would offer to convert your NC 4.5 profile for use in NS 7.2. This would convert the profile data into formats that SeaMonkey 2.0 could understand, and enable it to be migrated to a SeaMonkey 2.0 profile, making the whole thing easier. Assuming the Win 95 machine can connect to the internet, try downloading Netscape 7.2: http://browser.netscape.com/releases Install it, and convert the existing NC 4.5 profile to NS 7.2 use. Open NS 7.2 and see if all is working as expected, are the bookmarks there, is the mail account there, is all the mail there, etc? If all is good then you copy the entire profile folder. Oh yeah, you only have a floppy drive available. It probably won't fit. Well, see if you can go this far, and the we can regroup. I', here for you. In this case the sig is justified. Lee Downloading and installing NS 7.2 sounds easy enough (uninstall 4.5 and install 7.2), but I'm not sure about the "and convert the existing NS 4.5 profile to NS 7.2 use." It sounds like there's more for me to do than to just think that this happens automatically. What are the steps to do this? As they say on Star Trek, "[I've] gone where [I've] never gone before" Unfortunately, this has now raised a number of questions that I didn't have before (probably a good thing). I hope you or others can stay with me to bring this to a conclusion. 1) What's the difference between a Profile and an Account? I have added 2 new accounts ("Work" & "Personal") as I've now moved to a new ISP with wireless. I added these using Edit > Mail & Newsgroup Account Settings. I didn't do anything regarding "profiles". Is there more for me to do? A Profile is the entire thing which stores all settings/preferences which you might set by the GUI (concerning Browser and News/Emails etc). It also contains all Email- and Newsgroupaccounts. Every profile may contain as many Email- and Newsgroupaccounts as the user wishes to. You can backup and restore your profile entirely to any Seamonkey 1.1.x installation at any time (at least while SM is closed ;-) ). 2) I have located 2 profile folders : Profile\default\f68gg1hi.slt and Profile\SeaMonkey\snxbxfle.slt the first one has 6 folders: Pop1.sympatico.ca, Pop1.sympatico-1.ca, kingston.net, kingston-1.net, kingston-2.net and Local Folders. I found that Pop1.sympatico.ca refers to my original account and Pop1.sympatico-1.ca refers to my "Work" account and kingston-2.net refers to my "Personal" account. I don't know what the remaining 3 folders are for (kingston.net, kingston-1.net, Local Folders). I am particularly confused why one of the new accounts (Work) is named with "Sympatico" (my original account name), when there is no reference to Sympatico in the Account Settings. Have I done something wrong even though the accounts seem to be working O.K.? Those you don't know about are probably just leftovers from accounts which...um..."I don't know what happened to them" ;-) (except Local Folders of course). Feel free to test that by removing one folder after another from that profile-directory and starting Seamonkey each time you have removed one. As long as everything is at it's place you're just removing trash and so you can delete that stuff which you have successfully take out and you therefore probably don't need. 3) As I want to transfer only specific folders and their sub-folders to the 2 new accounts, do I just Select & Cut the folders & files (not .msf) in Pop1.sympatico.ca and Paste them to either Pop1.sympatico-1.ca and kingston-2.net? Yes you can cut and paste the folders (each folder is represented by a file, the one without .msf as you already found out :-) ) to another account. It doesn't matter if this account lies in the same profile or not. (I guess in your case all accounts are in one profile) Easiest way would be to replace the existing inbox etc. in the new account with your old one. Note: If you already have mails in your new account which are not in your old account and therefore should not be lost, you can't replace them but will need to rename inbox etc. from your old account to InboxOld or something like that and paste it to the new account with that new name. Seamonkey will then automatically show those additional Folders in your new account besides the standard folders on the next start. I hope I could help and clarify some things. kind regards Martin Thanks Martin, this should keep me busy over the next few days. I'll report back how things went. Ed Sorry, but I was called away and just returned. I've run into a problem. Please let me know if I need to open a new thread or can I continue with this.
