Sorry, I see no search bar "in the middle of the page." The only one I

Using the URL supplied, to the left is the XFINITY label, then a search

How do I get the missing tool bars back?

Two things to look for:

1) In a composition window, pull down the View menu to Show/Hide
and see
if the corresponding boxes are checked:
[✓] Menu Bar
[✓] Mail Toolbar
[✓] Status Bar
If they aren't, check the boxes to enable them.

2) If that doesn't solve it, look along the left edge of the screen
next
to the "From:" line and you'll see a speckled vertical bar with a
downward pointing triangle. Follow it with your eye to the bottom,
just
under "Subject:" and above the message body, and you'll see one or
more
horizontal versions of the same thing. Click each of them to reveal
the
corresponding toolbar.

I know about the grippies on the left side of the boxes. The only
grippies visible correspond to the areas I mentioned. I've even tried
resizing the screen but that doesn't do anything either.

I'm thinking there might be something in chrome or userprefs.js perhaps
that got screwed up.

That's one of the things I checked for right off the bat.

That's an interesting one!

Looks like somebody removed the check marks for the Menu Bar and Mail
Toolbar. Like I just did to try and reproduce the problem.

Now that I have reproduced the problem, I can't find a spot anywhere in
the composition window to bring those back. There are no grippies, right
clicking in the Header bar doesn't bring up the customize window.

Looks like we both have broken SeaMonkey's now.

A new profile should fix it.

This post originally typed in SeaMonkey, but with no Send button, well
you know I couldn't send it. Probably a key command for that.

I appreciate the help and knowing that the problem was duplicated, now I
can see if a new profile will fix it. I will report back.

Is there a Bugzilla bug filed? If so, what status is marked against it?
This has gone on for how long now? I'd almost say that the developers
have no interest in fixing this particular bug. Almost as they may have
other more important bugs to work but this one is approaching major
irritant status and is blocking a lot of folks from upgrading including me.

Upgrading from 2.26.1

2015-02-01 Thread Zeb Carter
I haven't upgraded yet due to concerns regarding some problems with
2.29/2.30.

The primary reason why I haven't upgraded was the breakage of viewing
images in binary newsgroups in the later versions.

I haven't seen any indication that this has been fixed n 2.32. Can
anyone confirm this is fixed?

And yes, I know running an outdated browser has certain security issues.

I wish there were some easy way to alter the user-agent line to

That is why I copied the FireFox user agent string and added it to

user agent string to avoid this very idiotic message there and
elsewhere.

Could you specify exactly how you added the FireFox user-agent string to
the PrefBar. For somebody who is tech stupid, that is. There used to
be a way in the Tools menu to manage the user-agent. That hasn't been
around for a while.

It has been a while since I did so, but I believe it was relatively
simple. Hit the Customize button on your PrefBar toolbar. That
should open a new window of available and enabled items. Right-click on
the User Agent entry under enabled items and select Edit from the
pop-up menu. Open FireFox and access the troubleshooting information
either via menus or about:support so you will have access to the User
Agent string. Hit the + button on the user agent edit window from
PrefBar to obtain a new entry in the table. Copy/Paste the FireFox
string into the blank Value field and label it as you like. Optionally
you can re-order the user agent strings and the hit the OK button to
save the changes.

To add to this, go to http://www.useragentstring.com/

You can cut and paste any of the user agent strings to spoof other browsers.

1. At

3. Open the file password_exporter-1.2.1-fx+tb+sm.xpi in a ZIP
application (e.g., Winzip).

4. Depending on the ZIP application, open the install.rdf file in a
plain-text editor WITHOUT unzipping the XPI file.

5. Near the bottom of the install.rdf file, under the line that is
!-- Mozilla SeaMonkey --
change the line
em:maxVersion2.1b1/em:maxVersion
to be
em:maxVersion2.20/em:maxVersion

6. Use the Save capability of the editor.

7. Close the ZIP application. If it asks about saving install.rdf, the
answer is yes.

The extension can then be installed from the local XPI file on your PC.

Get one of the add-ons that changes the User Agent string and

Enabling Advertise Firefox compatibility gives the UA string
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:23.0) Gecko/20100101

Spoofing plain Firefox/23 via PrefBar gives the UA string

Neither of those work for accessing Google+. Can anyone who is actually

I got a new laptop almost two weeks ago. I got excited about it. Before
I downloads SeaMonkey from the SeaMonkey-projects site, I went to my
Desktop and I found that I CAN import. But, I am looking for Export. I
want to export my stuff from my Desktop into my laptop to be imported.

How can I export everything, including mail folders, messages, settings
and et'al?

Thank you very much.

I hear good things about MozBackup. It's supposed to backup your entire
Seamonkey profile and restore it to your new machine.

Apparently the most recent version can be found here:

http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

I'll second the use of MozBackup. My home machine is a Win XP Media
Center and I used MozBackup on it. Then I used it to set up my Win 7
laptop at work. With Mozilla Sync, the two stay linked. Best of both worlds!

3) Compacting the folder does not seem to work (file size is roughly
4GB).

I think that that (4GB) may be a magic number.

Especially if it's a Windows PC and the drive is formatted FAT32.

Machine in question is a Windows 7 machine - defintely NTFS. Per the
original msg, I moved the messages from the default SENT folder to the
one under LOCAL folders, pointed the system to that folder and the sent
messages go there as they should.

With an empty SENT folder under the default account, sent messages
appear and then disappear after closing Seamonkey and reopening SM.

Very strange behavior!

Some problems regarding SENT folder in 2.0.11

2011-02-15 Thread Zeb Carter
I provide tech support to a customer/friend of mine. He called me about
a problem he was having with the SENT folder under his profile.
Actually, there are 4 issues happening:

1) On entry to the mail/news side, he gets a notification saying summary
file being rebuilt for this folder

2) Sent messages appear in the folder but on exiting the program, and
going back in, the message no longer appears.

3) Compacting the folder does not seem to work (file size is roughly 4GB).

4) Cannot delete or rename the folder in an effort to recreate it.

What I have tried - deleting the .msf for that folder (still does a
rebuild on reentry to program after being closed/exited). I do have a
work around in place using a SENT folder as the repository under LOCAL
FOLDERS. Newly sent messages do stay put and it did compact properly but
I did not check final file size.

Any ideas or suggestions on a fix or wait for 2.0.12 for a fix?

Thanks in advance!!

Thank you very much That was easy!

I just did that. but I used Moz Backup. It was very easy to use and got
everything - passwords, bookmarks, emails!

from the support page of mozbackup :

Can I use MozBackup for synchronization between two PCs?
I don't think this is a good idea. If you use Firefox try Firefox Sync
which is better for such task. If you use Thunderbird try to think about
having your mails on server and access to them via IMAP protocol.
Familiar solution you can have for contacts.

I think mozbackup not enough documented

I got the impression that the OP was not trying to sync his new machine
to the old, just that he wanted the same bookmarks, email settings,
theme, etc. Sure you could do that stuff manually but why do that if
there is a tool available like MozBackup?

Update to the problem Re: Moving profiles from XP to Win7

Zeb Carter wrote:

I am in the process of setting up a new computer for a friend of mine -

I have created duplicate named profiles on the win 7 machine to match

to copy the contents of the XP machine's profiles to their corresponding
counterparts on the Win 7 system. Files are there but SM does not see
the information there. In fact, of the 6 profiles, only one is actually
working.

When I try and open the new profiles, I get the dialogue asking me to
create the new mail/news/RSS account(s).

What am I doing wrong? I've copied the appropriate files into the proper
locations but something is not working.

Thanks in advance!

Things are not going well. After having tried copying to the appropriate
folders, deleting the .msf files, using MozBackup, creating new profiles
and copying to them, things are still not working as they should.

I still cannot see old mail in the inbox but did manage to get old sent
mail working.

Help!! Please.

When I do this, I first close SeaMonkey on the old computer, and copy
the entire profile folder (e.g. salt.profilename) to the new computer.
Then I use the profile manager on the new computer to create a new
profile with the same profile name and use Choose Folder to navigate
to the copied profile.

The profile manager is smart enough to realize that it should use the
existing profile in that location, rather than creating a new profile in
that location.

I tried that today. I copied the profiles straight from the cloned drive
to the appropriate folder in Win 7. Started SM, told it to create a new
profile with the name of the profile I ad copied - SM created NEW
profiles with the same name but a different random number sequence in
front of the name.

SM doesn't need to have the random number sequence in the profiles
location, I think it a bit of a security measure.

With-in SM, go to Tools-Switch Profiles-Manage Profiles-Create
Profile, give it a distinctive name, then on that screen click on
Choose Folder, and find where you saved the old profiles location then
select one level above that, so that the profile is a sub-folder of
where you tell SM to look.

i.e. If your profile files are in the directory
C:\Personal\Internet\old_one\profile location, you would tell SM to look
in C:\Personal\Internet\old_one

HTH

I'll try that. Is Moz Backup a good alternative to exporting and
importing profiles between 2 PCs? Also, I can't seem to find the command
line switches to use the migration wizard. I really do appreciate all
the help folks!
