Hi Norman,

please also try newly created User Profile (via 'Tools -> Switch User

disappear with other User Profile.

Not sure what happened, I did a few emails last night, word docs and

Now performing a full scan with Avast to see if there is anything hiding

Any ideas or suggestions or something which I have possibly missed here?

avoid the annoying LED lights flashing all the time. My main unit

Re: safe mode

2013-10-20 Thread Dave

1. In SeaMonkey, have a look at Tools-Switch Profiles. Are there more
profiles there than you would expect?? If so, select each profile in
turn to see if they contain your missing stuff. If not, then,

2. Have a look at Local directory setting of the Server Settings for
your e-mail account, note this location. Completely close SeaMonkey and
use the Windows Find Folders and File function to search for Inbox
(without the inverted commas). If any are found, are they at the
location shown in the Local directory or elsewhere??

Report back with results!
Hey, Daniel! I only showed one profile. However, following your second
suggestion I was delighted to come up with 89 items on a search. I
managed to find the one relating to what I think is the file in question
and under profile I found a file 2qatbdob.default.
Within that file were four for my pop files. They were numbered 1
through 4. #4 was dated this past Wednesday when this mess started. I
checked its properties and it showed a little over 3MB in size.

Checking #2, dated last year had a size over 200MB.
So! If I go the #2 and check properties it says I can restore a
previous version. But #2 isn't currently running. How do I transfer
the data or tell my pc to use the earlier profile that didn't show up on

Tools-Switch Profiles check?
On the bright side I raked up 61 bags of leaves today.

safe mode

2013-10-19 Thread Dave
Last night I was downloading info from Google. At the end of my session
I went to check the weather forecast (my home page on Sea Monkey) and
was greeted with Sea Monkey starting in safe mode. Realizing that
something was amiss I ran Malwarebytes that discovered 10 suspicious
items. I had the program delete the suspect items and re-started my
computer when prompted. At that point I ran Sea Monkey
and it started in normal mode but with default settings. I set my
preferences and shut down.

This morning I went to check e-mail and discovered that
my internet mail connection was gone. I used the wizard to set up the
connection but all my sub-files are gone and the e-mails stored there.

Is there any way to recover these e-mails from the Sea Monkey
file in programs that a computer illiterate like me can accomplish?

was also downloading some files for a cell phone @ the same time

closed all the pgms and rebooted
started SM and still got the SAFE MODE message

but now, I'm able to get to all of the bookmarks and read my mail in gmail
all seems restored, except that I seem to have lost some emails that

prior to all this happening

any way to find/restore those few emails
and does anyone have an idea as to what caused this to occur

will check my pref's and see if anything else was changed

Ken,

This is a real shot in the dark, not enough information from you on your
system.

It is possible you had an older version of SeaMonkey, Mozilla, Firefox,
Thunderbird, or Netscape with extensions, themes, or plugins installed
that are now incompatible with your newer version.

If your SeaMonkey will launch in Safe Mode look in the top tool bar
for Tools and then click Ad Ons Manager and remove all Ad Ons that
show incompatibility.

Whatever icon you use to launch SeaMonkey, right-click on it and select

messages regarding this issue. It was late at night, I panicked and this
explains the lack of clarity in my messages regarding this issue. Let me
explain the situation in terms which, I hope, will be clearer.

I am using Seamonkey 2.4.1 on a Windows XP Pro machine running SP3 if
that is all relevant. I had been having issues with certain Web pages
loading slower than normal. I did pretty much all of the right things:
disabled all unnecessary and even some necessary add-ons, defragmented
not only the hard drive but the Seamonkey program and data folders,
checked to see what was in startup, checked for viruses, malware, etc.
When none of that worked I wondered if resetting the program to its
default settings might improve things. I did a little bit of reading on
how running Seamonkey in Safe mode gives you the option of restarting
Seamonkey normally allowing the user to choose whether addons are
disabled, toolbars are reset, etc. I did this including checking the box
to get rid of user preferences not assuming this includes email account
information. I then restarted seamonkey normally, not in safe mode, and
found that bringing up the email window triggered the new account wizzard.
I do see that my old email folders from my various accounts still seem
to exist in the folder
C:\documents and settings\david\application
data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\ot85ufde.default\Mail
My question is this: what can I do to get Seamonkey to realize or to
know that it is to look in this folder for my email instead of
bringing up the new account wizzard. I do not have a backup copy of the
prefs.js file but I am not afraid to modify either it or any settings in
about:config with guidance. I hope this clarified my situation.

David

David, it's been a real long time since I've had to set up a mail
account from scratch, but when SM brings up the new account wizard (as
you mention above), on the (second, I think) screen where you get to
give the mail account a name, do you also get to pick the account's
location?? Don't accept the default location, try to point it to your
current accounts location, as you list above.

Not really. It is always best to present your question in the body of

example, yours could read Unexpected Safe Mode boot deletes email and
leave off the comments. Then list your version number, and operating

At my window width and chosen columns and fonts, yours says:
Safe Mode/Email Deleted/Am I Up a Creek Wit...

First, let me say that I am in no way mad at Mozilla and this was my
fault for not properly researching the consequences of going into
safe mode and resetting preferences.

I can see no way that a simple Safe Mode start would kill your
preferences and accounts. Safe Mode mostly only disables add-ons. What
exactly in Preferences did you change? (Preferences are not the same as
Accounts.)

The problem is that I did not know that my emails and mail account
settings would be wiped, which is what has happened.

You did something else besides simply starting in Safe Mode. Think back
to what you were doing when you had the Accounts windows open.

As I have not backed up emails does this mean there is no way at all
to revert back to the way Seamonkey was before the safe mode boot?

disabled all unnecessary and even some necessary add-ons, defragmented
not only the hard drive but the Seamonkey program and data folders,
checked to see what was in startup, checked for viruses, malware, etc.
I did this including checking the
box to get rid of user preferences not assuming this includes email
account information. I then restarted seamonkey normally, not in safe
mode, and found that bringing up the email window triggered the new
account wizzard.

Well, the accounts are stored in the prefs.js. And if you reset the

Luckily the mails are still in the profile and can be recovered even if
the old pref.js can not be found in the Trash of Win.

Once you have copied

C:\documents and settings\david\application
data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\ot85ufde.default\Mail

to somewhere else for safety, I would recommend just going through
the New e-mail account wizard, giving it all of your standard
data, and then, when the wizard has finished, using :

Edit / Mail Newsgroups Account Settings /
Your new account / Server Settings /
Local Directory / Browse ...

and then browse to

C:\documents and settings\david\application
data\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles\ot85ufde.default\Mail

I can't guarantee that this will work, because under my corresponding entry :

D:\Documents and settings\All Users\Application
Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\.***

I have no Mail; I have ImapMail, Cache Chrome.

Good luck.

I almost have tears in my eyes; that did work. The issue is that I have
a few pop3 accounts and I was able to copy the appropriate files
containing the email messages back into the main default mail profile
folder and tell Seamonkey which file to use within that folder such as
verizon-2.net, verizon-3.net, etc. I have a little bit of work to do but
it is definitely fixable. I cannot thank you enough.

Safe Mode/Email Deleted/Am I Up a Creek Without a Paddle

2011-11-19 Thread David Goldfield
I think the subject of my message summarizes my issue. First, let me
say that I am in no way mad at Mozilla and this was my fault for not
properly researching the consequences of going into safe mode and
resetting preferences. The problem is that I did not know that my
emails and mail account settings would be wiped, which is what has
happened. As I have not backed up emails does this mean there is no way
at all to revert back to the way Seamonkey was before the safe mode boot?

Are you starting SeaMonkey from a desktop icon or from an icon in the
list from the Start button on your taskbar?

In either case, place your cursor over the icon and right-click. From
the pull-down context menu, select Properties. On the Properties
window, select the Shortcut tab. In the Target area, make sure the end
of the path to seamonkey.exe does not show -safe-mode.

Many thanks. That did it. 2.2 was installed automagically and that's
when safe-mode was added. Don't know why but is gone now.

[Seamonkey 2.1b2pre][Linux 32] -safe-mode and extensions/personal configuration

2011-02-03 Thread Stéphane Grégoire
Hi,

I have a trouble with Seamonkey 2.1b2pre, without -safe-mode I have no
url bar!

I tried French and US builds, I've tried to inactivate extensions, I
tried to totally deactivate extensions and local configuration (renamed
chrome and extensions directories and create empty ones).

What can I do to use Seamonkey 2.1b2pre without safe mode?

I had this since I tried Firebug 1.7a9!

Your last sentence gives you the answer. Firebug is not (yet) fully
compatible with SM trunk. Probably fallout from them supporting FF4's
add-on bar (which SM doesn't have). From past experience I'd guess that
it won't be fixed unless some SM developer provides the fix. Last time I
did. I hope this time someone else jumps in or at least files a bug
against Firebug.

Expanding on that, I just found that the problem persists even if you
disable or uninstall Firebug. Fortunately I also found a workaround:
Just reset the toolbar (right click the toolbar, then from the context
menu choose Customize and in the new dialog choose Restore Default Set.

safe-mode function is basically the same as any other safe-mode like
in Windows for example. Safe-mode defaults to the main theme,
extensions/plugins do not load, etc. If you need to boot SM via
safe-mode then you have either a theme or errant extension, more than
likely an extension. Disable all extensions, then start SM as usual.
Then re-enable one extension at a time until the culprit is found.

No idea but if it takes booting to safe-mode in order to start SM then
you may have to take a look at themes, extensions AND plugins. Try
creating a new profile to see if that boots every time without incident.
