If are using Windows and you install in the default location, x32
installs in [C:\Program Files (x86)] and x64 installs in ["C:\Program
Files"].  In going from x32 to x64 you will have SeaMonkey twice and
there will be conflicts.

For many years, however, I have been installing SeaMonkey in a
non-default location that is on a drive that is NOT C.  When I updated
from x32 to x64, I still installed in that location.  In my case, not
uninstalling the older version was not necessary.

The questions and answers of this thread prompted me to check my
locations for SeaMonkey.  I see I have a folder for SeaMonkey in both
C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86).  Apparently I am using the
64 bit location now.  Is there any reason I could not simply delete the
32 bit directory??  Or is there a better way to remove the old files??

Please check Windows "Programs and Features" to see if both versions are
installed. If best is to uninstall both and reinstall only the x64
version. Just deleting the x86 will leave fragments behind. If you still
have anything in x86 SeaMonkey left after you uninstalled you can delete
them. Might be ancient non working bundled add-ons or plugins then.

FRG

My Seamonkey profile is installed at:
C:\Users\Margaret\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\Profiles
and my SeaMonkey program is installed at:
C:\Users\Margaret\AppData\Local\SeaMonkey\seamonkey.exe
When I installed I thought I installed in the default location

Looks like you did not have Admin rights when you installed it.  Did you
answer "no" to some security question posed by Windows?  I assume you'd have
to uninstall and reinstall to get past that one.

With recent installations of SeaMonkey on Windows 10 I have no longer been
prompted to install as administrator. I have to deliberately install from
an administrator account (I suspect "run as administrator" would also work),
otherwise I get a local, non-system wide installation without comment,
notice, or warning.

And if one accidentally gets a per-user installation and then installs as
administrator, the per-user installation is not removed, and must be removed
separately.

By the way, I consider my profiles to be data. I have them on a drive
that is neither C nor the drive where SeaMonkey is installed. All this
has been my configuration since at least 2014.

What's a bit odd about this site is that it thinks SM is in 64 bit mode,
or it's sniffing the mode wrong.

I went back an tried it with Safari - MacBook Pro booted in 64 bit
kernel; with Safari launched in default 64 bit mode the video stream did
not play and I got the must be launched in 32 bit mode error from the
site; with Safari launched in 32 bit mode the video stream did play,
even under 64 bit machine boot.

One more sniffing problem to be aware of, I guess...but I'm sort of
surprised at/by this.

32 vs 64 bit mode required - more...

2011-05-03 Thread Rufus
Ok. So I recently discovered and am booting my Macbook Pro in 64 bit
kernel mode, and was expecting to see an option to launch SM 2.0.14 in
either 32 bit or 64 bit mode, or that SM 2.0.14 would be 32 bit mode by
default. Or only. No option for 32/64 bit mode launch is in the Get
Info window like with the 2.1 beta.

And the reason I got to this point was because I happened to go to a
site that seems to require 32 bit mode browser launch to work. The site
is Dish Networks Video Everywhere subscription site, which allows
subscribers to watch Dish Network supplied content on a computer
anywhere they have a net connection.

On initial navigation the site called SM an unsupported browser, so I
logged out, used User Agent Switcher to spoof Safari, and was back in
and operating nicely. But when I got to the actual video content page I
was presented a dialog reading 32 bit mode browser required for
viewing or something to that effect.

I have yet to try this with Safari in both 32 and 64 bit modes, but it
would seem some sites actually care about what mode your browser is
launched in...which was a surprise to me. As was 2.0.14 being in 64
bit mode with no option to launch it otherwise.

So is it SM or my boot mode? Or both?
