I'm using fossamail to post here, which is a near clone of
Thunderbird. If I right click any unread message I can select Mark/All
Read, "All" meaning every downloaded message in the newsgroup. Not
sure if that applies to SeaMonkey or not.

Roger, my Laptop's Thumbpad right-click button isn't working a.t.t. (one
day I'll get around to installing the new mouse I've just purchased!!)
but I'm pretty sure it does have the ability to "Mark as Read" all the
unread messages with-in a newsgroup but the OP wants to be able to
do that for all the groups that they have subscribed to .. with just one
click per server!!

Wow. I think that's right up there with curing the common cold.

I've had posts deleted from this newgroup, including recently, for sins
far less grievous than this one. Probably worth considering here.

Web ext support is planned for 2.57. One of the things which will held it up.
With the ESR60 code base many current extensions just won't work. That
includes all popular Ad- and Scriptblockers. So would be pointless to release
it in this state.

Not enough devs left to do this. We barely keep it running. Only an option if
you want no security fixes or new web standards support.

For the next ESR cycle based on 67 it is probably game over and we need to
think about what to do. Fx 61 already breaks everything including full themes
and this won't get better.

Once you have created the search folder you can leave it there
indefinitely, and so marking all groups as read becomes quite easy.
However, I now find an additional bug: SM keeps asking me if I wish to
subscribe to the search folder, and then tells me it doesn't exist. :/

I suspect the OP was talking about marking messages as read, or as junk,
or setting their priority, or some other local function. Nobody else
needs to know how I personally mark the various messages on my machine.

The original subject indicates the user wants to mark messages on a
server.

With one exception, no newsreader application -- including SeaMonkey and
Thunderbird -- can change the status of newsgroup messages on a server.
The exception is that some servers allow the submitter of a message to
cancel that message. However, most servers today even prohibit that
action because of past situations in which fraudulent cancellations were
issued.

Furthermore, general newsgroups (e.g., the Big-8 hierarchies: comp.*,
news.*, sci.*, humanities.*, rec.*, soc.*, talk.*, and misc.*) are in a
distributed system. That is, there are a number of servers, not merely
one. A general newsgroup message posted to any server is quickly
propagated to all the other servers. Only proprietary servers (e.g.,
news.mozilla.org) stand alone.
