I just booted up and the following thing was on my
SM Browser page. Came up w/o any prompt.

When things appear w/o bidding, i am very
skeptical about it being a scam or Maleware
trying to get on my system if I click on anything.

http://www.cys-audiovideodownloader.com/

Is this authentic ?

I would like to get a program or extension or
add-on that will extract (capture) ANY video on
any web sitelike on News web pages or blogs etc.

Is there such a thingthat is safe to download?

DoctorBill

It's a scam. I got it too and malwarebytes does not get rid of it. The
way I finally got rid of it was to blacklist the URL using the BlockSite
extension.

Here is the URL for it
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/blocksite/?src=ss

Since it is not compatible with SeaMonkey you will have to run it
through the online SeaMonkey extension converter first:
http://addonconverter.fotokraina.com/ When the extension comes across a
URL it's blacklisted it displays a quick unobrusive temporary popup.

This should work (it did for me) but there is the separate problem in
that the developer of this extension has seen fit to resort to the same
trick. So I BlockListed the Blocklist URL!

I would be very suspicious of anything that popped up spontaneously like
that. If you want an extension to save videos, try getting one from the
Mozilla addons site.

I think you may be right. In attempting to block the BlockSite URL the
address doesn't get pasted in a it appears in the URL bar. Instead it
reads chrome:.

I believe this issue came up in this newsgroup awhile back and someone,
perhaps yourself, posted (to me) essentially what you've just said. As I

I don't think there is an external file deposited on your computer (JMO
- I'm no expert). If it did do that, I would expect M'bytes or Avast to
pick it up, which they don't. It does seem to have a way of identifying
my computer though, as it periodically will try (unsuccessfully) to add
its page in a new tab and shift focus to it at the next mouse action.
The extension, though seriously problematic, does work.

Why did you get that page in the first place?
Earlier you wrote:

That means that something is already active on your computer.
Virus, trojan, zombie, root kit, malware, re-direct, etc.
Blocking the webpage won't kill the process.

Dumb question maybe but why is harmful software readily available on
AoM.org? Too nuch effort required to monitor it? At the very least there
could be a separate page, perhaps password protected, where ordinary
users could post extensions behaving as malware. At the very least it
would be a worthy goal to have every extension come with an ongoing
rating.

I have learned to never slick any links on

That goes for ANYTHING - even Adobe, Firefox,

I'm not sure I was successful in getting rid of it because it reappeared
at least once, but it hasn't returned in quite awhile. With all the
built-in features of marginal use that are built into browsers (I have
to clear Firefox's latest great idea off of my toolbar almost every

built-in. You know, safety..
