No, it is true for a single account. One of my accounts is set up with

Unless its install.rdf file is fixed, Signature Switch will likely NOT
work with Thunderbird 5. The powers that be among developers are trying
to ensure that many extensions become broken as new versions of
Mozilla-based applications are released more and more frequently.

You lost me. TB5? We want it to work with SM2.1. The install.rdf file
fix is pretty simple. No? Add SM 2.1 and it's all good to go.

I mentioned Tbird because SeaMonkey's Mail/News component is based very
much (not entirely) on Tbird.

In 2.0 (and I expect in 2.1 also), you can define separate identities
for each account, and each identity can have its own sig. You need to go
in Edit - Account Settings, then click on your account's name. You
should then see a Manage identities button. Click on it, and there you
can add identities (for example, one for business, one for personal, one
for nonprofit).

Once you're done with that, you can select the proper identity when you
compose an email by clicking on the Sender bar at the top of your email
writing window, which will allow you to choose which identity to use.
Once you select it, you'll see its signature appear. If you change

That is a capability of Signature Switch. First, setup signatures.
Then edit each signature to be the default for a specific E-mail address

It works for TBird 5.0. However, the extension's install.rdf file is
not setup for SeaMonkey.

See https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Extensions_support_in_SeaMonkey_2
if you want to tweak the file to use the extension in SeaMonkey. The
install.rdf file is embedded within the extension's XPI file, which is
actually a ZIP file. Using a zip application (e.g., WinZip in Windows),
extract install.rdf, edit it per that Web page, and then re-insert it
back into the XPI file. Note that, even with install.rdf setup, the
extension might still not work with SeaMonkey. In that case, you might
try using Thunderbird.

Bill,

You can create several signature files and select distinct files for each mail
account.

You can have text only files and HTML files for any signature.

You can change sig files at any time for specific messages.

This is where SeaMonkey Composer comes in very handy.

I use a single e-mail account for personal mail, business mail, and various
nonprofit activities -- that's why I'm looking for a solution that doesn't
restrict me to a single signature for that account.

How would I change sig files for particular messages, given the
one-sig-per-account limitation?

I'm OK with cut-and-paste for now -- I just remembered that someone had written
a really simple extension that worked perfectly for me, but apparently hasn't
updated it for SM 2.n. I'll keep my eye on the Seamonkey add-on page!

signature after drafting an e-mail?

The extension I was using doesn't work in SM 2.1.

I don't usually want to use a signature, so SM's built-in
functionality
doesn't help me. And when I DO want a signature, it might be one of
several different ones, depending on whether the email is business,
personal, etc.

Right no I'm back to the old method of opening a text file and using
copy-paste to insert the correct signature -- it feels so 1995!

What extension were you using? Did you remove it or disable it?

I can't remember the name -- I just upgraded from version 1.1.18
and it
didn't carry forward. The extension was pretty simple; I right-clicked
where I wanted a signature to appear, then selected the correct one
for
that message.

Don't know if this was what you had and don't know if it will work in
SM2.1:

This is not the extension I was using, but it sounds great. At present
it won't install on SM 2.1. I tried a different Thunderbird extension
earlier that also wouldn't install.

Thanks for your help -- it sounds like other people have the same need
as I do!

Bill,

You can create several signature files and select distinct files for
each mail
account.

You can have text only files and HTML files for any signature.

You can change sig files at any time for specific messages.

This is where SeaMonkey Composer comes in very handy.

I use a single e-mail account for personal mail, business mail, and
various nonprofit activities -- that's why I'm looking for a solution
that doesn't restrict me to a single signature for that account.

How would I change sig files for particular messages, given the
one-sig-per-account limitation?

I'm OK with cut-and-paste for now -- I just remembered that someone had
written a really simple extension that worked perfectly for me, but
apparently hasn't updated it for SM 2.n. I'll keep my eye on the
Seamonkey add-on page!

Create a new folder in your Profile Folder and name it Sigs.
Create all the signature files you might want to use, name each file
something you will remember, and save these files in the Sig Folder.

For each mail account click Settings and on the main page look for
Attach the signature from a file instead.

Click Choose and navigate to your profile folder and the Sig Folder.
Now select the Signature File you wish to use.

You can use this trick for any outgoing message you need, you can also
use it for Replies as well.

If you use a text editor to create the files be sure you save it as
.txt. If you use Composer to create a HTML file be sure it is saves
as .HTML.

Unless its install.rdf file is fixed, Signature Switch will likely NOT
work with Thunderbird 5. The powers that be among developers are trying

You lost me. TB5? We want it to work with SM2.1. The install.rdf file
fix is pretty simple. No? Add SM 2.1 and it's all good to go.
