SeaMonkey 2.6.1 availability
Was SM 2.6.1 availability for general release ever formally announced on this group? It's being recommended as the latest and greatest but I missed the announcement for it and can't find anything by searching this newsgroup. I just noticed that HELPSEARCH FOR UPDATES now shows 2.6.1 available; must have happened fairly recently. With respect, I think that decision was flawed. User have the option, via : Edit/Prerences/Advanced/Software installation/Seamonkey/Automatically check for updates/Automatically download and install the update to specifically indicate whether or not they are prepared to be [surprised] with an update during this busy holiday season when they did nothing other than running the browser. I indicated that I was not, but still wanted to be automatically informed that the update is available. To offer users this degree of granularity, and then to unilaterally trump it because the powers that be did not want to [surprise] users with an update [...] when they did nothing other than running the browser makes a mockery of the granularity offered. (the other evil being exposing all SeaMonkey users to a potential major issue that Firefox is either not yet aware of or not yet able to address as fast). Fair enough. I have commented before on my view of the Firefox Frequent release schedule, and reiterating that point here, relevant though it clearly is, would almost certainly accomplish nothing. Nope, it wasn't announced here or on the dev group, only on RSS. For the record, I found my problem with my attempt at announcing 2.6.1 I did an Edit as new for an old announcement, that included all the proper newsgroups, however I also sent it from an account that is only e-mail :/ And my SeaMonkey for some reason didn't warn me of that (I recall it used to)... I'll have to investigate in the future to try and figure out why it didn't warn and get a bug on file, if one already isn't present.
