Does this mean that you plan to un-defect to Firefox/Thunderbird, when
Seamonkey updates? :-) I was hoping that we hadn't seen the last of
you, when you announced that you were moving.

I'm sure you're as familiar as I am, that Ubuntuzilla tends to update
within about a week of official updates. I'm guessing that we'll see
them in another couple of days, although it wouldn't surprise me if
there's an extra day of delay, following this week's Labor Day holiday
in the US.

I'm looking forward to seeing those updates, too, but we'll just have to
wait a bit longer...

I never upgraded my desktop system. Since that never goes anywhere, I
felt safer leaving that running Seamonkey than I did my laptop.

I haven't checked yet today, but not available for openSUSE as of
yesterday.

Firefox wanted to update from 31.0 to 31.1.0 from the update repository.
I had to enable the Mozilla repo to get Firefox 32.0.

Daniel F (the UbuntuZilla one) is very responsive. If I happen to see an update
missed by him, I drop him a note and he promptly catches up.

/opt/seamonkey instead.

Given these differences, will I be able to use Ubuntuzilla to update my current
seamonkey install? Would I need to uninstall my current seamonkey and then
install from Ubuntuzilla? Should I look for
another source to update my seamonkey install?

As to the directory he deploys to (within the /opt/ area), he is following good *nix file system housekeeping. You are able to run the Ubuntu branded binaries AND the official Mozilla binaries
interchangeably. (Just not at the same time!) The way he installs the Mozilla build does take primary priority, however if you full-path specify the Ubuntu binary it will come up successfully.

About updating your UbuntuZilla install, refer above to my first comment. ;-)

I would think uninstalling your previous version and reinstalling from
Ubuntuzilla should be just fine. The important files (your settings,
E-Mail, etc) should still be in $HOME/.mozilla/seamonkey I would think...

That was my experience, when I moved from Lesko's PPA to Ubuntuzilla,
several months ago. As long as the binaries know where to locate your
user profile, it doesn't matter where the binaries are located.

I would uninstall the previous version, and then install Ubuntuzilla.
You might have to tweak configs to find your user profile, but if it's
in $HOME/.mozilla/seamonkey, the new install should find that.

Of course, it's always good to make sure you have a current backup of
your profile.

FWIW, when I check for updates from Seamonkey, it still tells me that
there aren't any updates available. Running Ubuntu Precise, 64-bit.

I have been using Joe Lesko's PPA for the past few years, but it appears
now that he is having problems with builds and may need to discontinue
his PPA. Given this I am looking for an alternative source for
SeaMonkey updates.

I see now that Ubuntuzilla now offers x64 builds, which they did not
when I was previously looking for a source for updates since linux mint
does not keep up with them. I am currently running two releases of
mint, 11 Katya x64 and 13 Maya x64 here, which are based on Ubuntu natty
and precise respectively. Given this I would think Ubuntuzilla would
work for me.
