No but they are caused by the same problem. Google serving goblygock web
content to SeaMonkey for whatever reason. If not duplicate the bug can be
close as worksforme or invalid. It can not be fixed in 2.49.x. Also 2.49.1 is
outdated. Before filing a bug please verify with the latest available version.
Currently either 2.49.4 or 2.49.5 RC2. Or Bill sunofficial 2.49.5 or 2.53.

The best option for goolge, facebook and the other corporate ilk sites who
don't care about web standards is currently 2.53.

No, you must try all standard test procedures before filing a bug
report. You have been around long enough to know that.

Certainly, but the two problems are not the same.
The user.js string I give was just a test. I also use AdBlockPlus and
advertise firefox compatibility  ..
So I agree that someone close my problem because I have not done all the
"standard" test procedures.
Last time I tried Safe-Mode - ...when returning to normal mode ... I
discovered that SM had changed some options. I don't remember which ones
and I am not sure that other options were changed due to the fact that I
had worked in Safe-Mode. So I am very reluctant to use Safe-Mode again.
I did not agree that my bug is closed by the reason of duplicate - when
this is not a duplicate. If it's a duplicate, I must have the two bugs
together .. but in this case I have my bug without having the oter one.
Anyway Paul give me a viable workaround .. so now I don't care about my
bug  anymore

Does it work in safe mode? If not did you try a test profile?

I have no problem with the site using SeaMonkey 2.49.4 on Windows 10 or
Linux. I only have AdBlock Plus as the only added extension and it is
active. The default user agent string advertising Firefox compatibility
and I think Lightning compatibility. I forgot to check that, but since I
run it with default settings it probably is enabled.

Dependent on the state of 'Advertise Firefox compatibility' I am getting
different results. Yours with the two scroll bars appears when using
'Advertise'.

Even the content of the search window after calling google is different

Mine works ok.  Check your pop up blockers.

I have played with:
- Block Unrequested popup windows checked/uncheked
- privacy.popup.remove_blacklist false/true
- ALLOW popup for the specific site google.com

2. On the Format & Options tab of the Page Setup Window,
make sure

the Print Background checkbox is checked.

I kept forgetting to look it up, as to the reason images were not
printing for me, and now it works again. Awesome! You saved me
time.

Thank you! :)

Good for you, not for me. Changing the setting had no effect here.

There are lots of pages where SeaMonkey omits some of the
content for

no reason I can
fathom. A good example is <http://www.websudoku.com>. Choose any
puzzle and try to print
it. You get the grid but no numbers -- totally useless.

SM 2.26.1: I can print the sudoku ok but I cannot print the boxer
shorts pic from the
original url. The pic actually comes from:
http://a248.e.akamai.net/f/248/9086/10h/origin-d4.scene7.com/is/image/Underarmour/V5ProdWithBadge?=on-model-mid|pdpZoomDesktop=0.50=jpg=85=sharp2=on,off=f0f0f0=0,0,1836,1950&$p_pos=450,380&$p_size=910,0=0,0,0,0&$p_src=is{Underarmour/V5-1277238-158_HTF}

IE does not show any pics at all.

So the image is from a different site than the main site. Check
Edit - Preferences -
Security - Images - and set the radio button for Load all images.
See if that helps.

No change for me. Already had it set to "all images". Toggled it
and still the same.

Might help Ray though.

I had already (and I still use) "load all images" set.
I think that this option is to permit to see images in the Browser.
The problem is that the image is visible on the screen of the
Browser - so perfect ---> But the "print content" did not have the
image. - so not perfect.

I just try to print with Internet Explorer ---> Same Problem !!!

Therefore my question is the same "Is this normal ?"

For that site it probably is.

Did you notice the zoom feature when you move the mouse over an image?

Did you notice the images are links, not images coded in tags
in that web page?

Did you try opening the image link in a new tab and printing it?

I have no trouble opening an image link in a new tab and printing it.

Yes, me too, I noticed that also earlier ...but :
A page can be showed, but cannot be printed . this is strange ...

How do you print a link in a page? Not strange at all.

You rigth-click on the image then you use "Open link in New Window"

Surely that isn't the case with websudoku.com, which has a "print"

Yes, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and other
"founding fathers" owned slaves. However, they created
a nation. Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, Thomas
"Stonewall" Jackson and other "heroes" of the
Confederacy tried to tear the nation apart. Statues
and other monuments to those "heroes" of the
Confederacy actually celebrate traitors and treason.

SeaMonkey Menu bar?

I see the numbers in both print previews. Haven't tried to print it.

I don't see the numbers in either scenario.

It works for me, by the SM print-preview or going thru the "print"
button on the page.

Right. The OP liked the way SeaMonkey shrunk an image down to 79x79

I wonder if perhaps the "79x79" image is actually being displayed at
more than 79x79 pixels on screen, giving better quality. Do you have
the zoom in SeaMonkey set to 100%? Or are you using a high-DPI
monitor? I'm not sure if certain CSS styling or other things might
also affect the scaling.

If, for example, SeaMonkey's zoom was set to 200%, I'd expect that
image to be displayed at 158x158 pixels. A large image scaled down
to 158x158 pixels for display, is going to look better than a 79x79
pixel image scaled up to 158x158.

The zoom was and is always at 100%
I have used 79x79 because I have other "logo" on the same line, so
each logo have the same height 79.

Any other image would also be affected by any scaling, so setting both
to 79 would indeed make the sizes match, but that doesn't necessarily
mean they're displayed as 79 pixels on screen.

You can see the result at the end of this page:
http://www.randoevasion.be/index.php?lang=fr

For me with SeaMonkey set to 100% those images do indeed render as 79
pixels height on screen, so it's probably not that unless you're using
a high-resolution monitor (where the image would need to be rendered
large in terms of pixels to appear the same size as on a conventional
monitor).

I'm guessing it's the "UPMM" logo that you're working on, since that's
the one that's significantly large than displayed. Since it's a logo
with large blocks of colour, you might get better quality (and
possibly also better compression) by using PNG rather than JPEG
format. If possible, start with a "clean" version of the logo, which
has never been saved as JPEG.

Is it possible that SM download the logo.jpg picture - then applied
the reduction to 79x79 - then save this new file somewhere - before
showing it in the final page ?

Can I retrieve this picture.file ? Or have you another bright idea ?

As others have mentioned, the scaling algorithm used in your image
editor can have an impact on the final quality.

If you want to capture the image SeaMonkey actually displays, you
should be able to press "Print Screen" on the keyboard and paste
into an image editor. Or some image editors have a screen-capture
function within the application (GIMP does, at File > Create >
Screen Shot, I don't know about Irfanview). Then crop the screen
capture to just the image you want and save it. You'll also find
out that way whether it's really being displayed at 79x79 pixels on
screen or something more.

I had used this method PrtSc but the result was poor.

That is odd. It should capture exactly what SeaMonkey is displaying!
Perhaps the problem is with the process of saving the file. Definitely
try using PNG rather than JPEG. JPEG is more optimised for compressing
photos, where colours are continuously variable and edges are not
particularly sharp, and takes advantage of that. It tends to give odd
artefacts around sharp edges on logos though. PNG is lossless, so
doesn't affect the image, and does a good job of compressing images
with large blocks of the same colour (like logos) - but it's not so
good for photos.

I am happy with the result I got, but next time, I will give a try with
the png format.

view / page info
select media tab
find your image / save as

That just saves the file containing the original large image, as linked
from the HTML source, not the 79x79 pixel image as displayed on screen.
The image displayed on screen doesn't exist as a file, only in
SeaMonkey's memory.

Which doesn't get you any compression. Can you try this:

open original image in irfanview
R (Image / Resize/Resample)
select radio button for Set new size
set Width: 79
select radio button for Units: pixels
Set check mark for Preserve aspect ratio
Clear check mark for Apply sharpen after Resample, Adjust DPI based on new sizes
select Size method: radio button Resample (better quality), use Filter
select Lanczos (slowest) from drop-down menu
Clear check marks for Use fast Resample filter for image shrinking,
Try to improve gamma for Resample
OK

File / Save as
Save as type: JPG - JPG/JPEG Format
Set check mark for Show options dialog

1st try:
clear all check marks on JPEG/GIF save options window except for
- Try to save with original JPG quality
Save

2nd try:
clear check mark for Try to save with original JPG quality
set Save quality slider to 75
Save

What I got for a 2MB file with an image quality 96:
- Save with original quality results in 5KB file
- Save with quality: 75 results in 2KB file

I wonder if perhaps the "79x79" image is actually being displayed at
more than 79x79 pixels on screen, giving better quality. Do you have
the zoom in SeaMonkey set to 100%? Or are you using a high-DPI

also affect the scaling.

If, for example, SeaMonkey's zoom was set to 200%, I'd expect that

158x158 pixels for display, is going to look better than a 79x79 pixel
image scaled up to 158x158.

The zoom was and is always at 100%
I have used 79x79 because I have other "logo" on the same line, so each

Thanks a lot for all the ideas, finally
I used Irfanview to resample to 600x600 and I Sharpen before the save.
So now from 1852x1852 = 2.042 MB to 600x600 = 298KB
then displaying with the "height="79" width="79"" option is nearly

I took a color photograph 2615 x 1656 px with 24-bit true color and a
resolution of 350 px/in. The file size was 1.18 MB (European 1,18 MB).

I went and repeated my analysis but with different steps. This time, I
resized it to 1852 x 1852 px, which distorted it. The resulting file
was 2.12 MB (European 2,12 MB). I then reduced it to 500 x 500 px,
which still looked quite sharp. That resulted in a 90 KB file.

Previously, I cropped the photo to get a square 1656 x 1656 px image and
then resized it to 1852 x 1852 px. Obviously, cropping caused a loss of
pixels and thus a reduced file size. Ooops!

Image file size depends both on the number of pixels and on the color
depth. 1852×1852×2/8=857,476 bytes = 837.38 kB (black and white) is much
less than 1852×1852×1,048,576/8=449,564,377,088 bytes = 439,027,712 kB =
428,738 MB (true color).

I haven't bothered to account for check bits and the efficiency achieved
by the lossy JPEG format, but the principle holds: color depth affects
file size.

I tried to recreate your problem. However, a very sharp JPEG file that
is 1852x1852 px is only 750 KB on my PC.

Since your image is square, try resizing it to 600x600 px. That would
be a file slightly smaller than 1/9 of the original. Viewed at 79x79
px, it should still be sharp and significantly smaller.

If it is not sharp enough after resizing, some image-editing
applications allow you to increase the pixel density. Do that BEFORE
resizing. Just be careful not to undo the benefit of resizing.

Is it possible that SM download the logo.jpg picture - then applied the

it in the final page ?

Can I retrieve this picture.file ? Or have you another bright idea ?

Adrian Kalla provides unoffcial releases which you can use:

https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-com
m-release-windows32/

Bug reports against them are accepted but if an official release comes out you
need to download the full installer. It will not auto update itself to the
official one.

There are also various internal en_US test releases available which at least
under
Windows should be fine too for daily use. The latest for Windows is located
here:

http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/nightly/2016/08/2016-08-11-20-17-50-comm-
release/

It contains the Aero Preview fix. Clearing the history using clear private data
is
broken in both builds. Its fixed already and will be in any release later than
08/13. If you need this function you can delete history items via the sidebar.

If you use any of these internal releases back up you profile or you will not be
able to go back to 2.40 if you encounter problems. The internal database version
has changed for some parts but you can alway install a later version over the
current one. Profile data will be preserved and upgraded if needed.

Try searching for "throbber" on Bugzilla. That's what the moving icon is
called.

Thanks Ed.

To clarify, I'm not referring to the Seamonkey throbber (green? progress
bar - I'm somewhat red-green colour blind). It's the Windows 10 display
when the mouse hovers over the seamonkey icon on the task bar that is
not updated.

I have now installed the same seamonkey-2.48a1

[from Adrian Kalla's unofficial page
https://l10n.mozilla-community.org/~akalla/unofficial/seamonkey/nightly/latest-c

omm-central-windows64/

seamonkey-2.48a1.en-US.win64.installer.exe 2016-08-07 19:50 39M]

on a notebook running windows 10 Pro Version 1511 Build 10586.545 (i.e.
the pre anniversary release),

I did not reset the profile and this is working fine.

So it's as though Win 1607 is not recognising SM 2.48 telling it what
the page looks like so the Windows hover can display the image - though
why that should change beats me since the same version works on Win 1511.

Unfortunately I can't upgrade the notebook to Win 1607 - it hangs when
rebooting after the install. Power cycling takes it back to Win1511
whence it provides a cryptic error message which indicates driver
issues. Boo hiss. Makes it difficult to confirm that the Win upgrade
causes the problem.

I'll try the latest 32 bit nightly on Win 1607 and raise a bug if it fails.

I'll continue the top post :)

Thanks F-R. However I am trying the Win 64 bit since I have an
experimental system and I think the "official" archive is only 32 bit
Windows. At least, I can't find a win64 version.

Hence Adrian Kalla's latest from about a week ago

But I'll give the latest win32 a go

Try searching for "throbber" on Bugzilla. That's what the moving icon is

Thanks Frank-Rainer.

The profile is pretty clean. No chrome, no add-ons apart from
experimenting with the embedded calendar, which seems to be OK (once I
learned about the google-provider plug-in). But the problem occurred
before then.

I also have the problem when restarting with add-ons disabled.
I'll build a completely fresh profile tomorrow and see what happens. If
I still have the problem I'll raise a bug report.

This is a test machine (it usually runs grid software - theskynet,
worldcommunitygrid) so it's no great drama.

Cheers, djc

Hmm, that seems to provide a Windows solution. "Unfortunately,"
I am
a linux user and need a solution I can use here.

A bit of searching found me a perl tool, but unfortunately that
will
only work if the browser is closed as a key file is kept in memory

Could this one help ?
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/cacheviewer/

It is unclear to me what additional features this add-on offers from
the description, and given it is a FireFox add-on it would need to be
converted to run with SeaMonkey.

Sometimes there is no need for a conversion.

Does anyone have it installed and can tell me if it is possible to
get
the actual full file name for a cached image file with it?

You tell me that i must install this extension on my SM to do your
test ?
What will you do with this file name:
~/.cache/mozilla/seamonkey/{SALT}.default/Cache/A/32/2D35Fd01 ?
The only way to catch it into an image-program is to see it per
exemple
inside https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/cacheviewer/
and do there a "COPY" then start your prefered image-program and do a
"PASTE".
Normally all image-programs are unable to open a file when this
filename
did not contains an "image-extension" like .jpg.

I was not telling you to do so. I was simply asking if anyone who
already had it installed could tell me in advance if it had the
feature I needed.

Many programs, Gimp for example, don't mind working without an
extension and inspect the file content to see if they recognize it. So
while the extension makes it easier for users to determine what a file
is by inspection it is by no means a requirement.

Dave

Anyway when you are on a page, you can simply rigth-click on an image
and take the choice "Copy Image" ..then you "paste" it into your program
without the need of a filename.

I saw that choice, but when I attempted to do so with the program I
wanted to paste the image into what was pasted was the URI, not the
image itself. I had assumed that this would be universal, but given
your suggestion I tried another program and found it pasted the image
as desired.

This suggests of course that the program needs to be fixed. As this
was the sole reason for this thread, I will consider this topic closed.

Dave

Sometimes, I got also the URI instead of the image, so I modify my actions:
1. When you are on a page, you can simply rigth-click on an image
and take the choice "VIEW Image"
2. Then a new SM window opens with only that image in the center.
3. Then you can simply rigth-click on an image
and take the choice "COPY Image".
4. Paste into your program.

I tried this and unfortunately still get the URI pasted in the program I
was attempting to use this with. I get the image pasted in gimp, so it
seems that the program is the problem. I am in contact with the
maintainer, so perhaps this can be fixed in a later release.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Yes, that is exactly where I was referring to. I seem to recall at one

menu entry having access to the full file name in the cache. It has
been long enough ago that I forget the specifics.

Dave

If I understand your question, Go->History .
I just tried it. Also found that using History's search box entering
"jpg" [without quotes] displayed only images in jpg format.

Nope, I am not after a link to the image file on the internet. I am
after the actual location of the image file saved in the disk cache.

I am looking for an actual fully qualified file name that I can paste
into an "open file" type dialog to access the image file from the disk
cache.

I don't see anything that will give you the name of the file in cache,
but maybe browsing thru all the image files in cache would be close
enuf? Something along the lines of

find $SEAMONKEYCACHEDIR -type f -exec file '{}' \; |\
   grep PNG | cut -d: -f1 |\
   awk '{ cmd="imageviewer " $0; print "" | cmd ; close(cmd)}'

where $SEAMONKEYCACHEDIR is the name of the SM top level cache
directory & "imageviewer" is the name of your image viewer program ?

Unfortunately there are thousands of images in the cache and and it
would be simpler to "save as" the image and then use that than to take
this approach. I am hoping to save some steps, not add another one.

You may use http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/image_cache_viewer.html
and .

When selecting a cache item in the upper pane of
ImageCacheViewer, the

image is displayed in the lower pane, and you can copy the image to
the
clipboard by pressing Ctrl+M.

then CTRL-V into IrfanView where you can do what you want with this
image.

Hmm, that seems to provide a Windows solution. "Unfortunately," I am
a linux user and need a solution I can use here.

A bit of searching found me a perl tool, but unfortunately that will
only work if the browser is closed as a key file is kept in memory
while the browser is operating.

Thanks for the pointer, perhaps someone else knows of a linux tool
and

I will keep looking myself.

Does anyone have it installed and can tell me if it is possible to get
the actual full file name for a cached image file with it?
You tell me that i must install this extension on my SM to do your
test ?

What will you do with this file name:
~/.cache/mozilla/seamonkey/{SALT}.default/Cache/A/32/2D35Fd01 ?
The only way to catch it into an image-program is to see it per exemple
inside https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/cacheviewer/
and do there a "COPY" then start your prefered image-program and do a
"PASTE".
Normally all image-programs are unable to open a file when this filename
did not contains an "image-extension" like .jpg.

I was not telling you to do so. I was simply asking if anyone who
already had it installed could tell me in advance if it had the
feature I needed.

Many programs, Gimp for example, don't mind working without an
extension and inspect the file content to see if they recognize it.
So while the extension makes it easier for users to determine what a
file is by inspection it is by no means a requirement.

Dave
Anyway when you are on a page, you can simply rigth-click on an image
and take the choice "Copy Image" ..then you "paste" it into your program
without the need of a filename.

Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Cache > Cache Folder Location should
show where the cache is stored; it may be in a subdirectory named Cache
or cache2 depending on the version of SeaMonkey. I'm not sure that the
original files are cached on disk exactly as downloaded. Looking at a
few files under cache2, it looks like there's extra data appended to the
end of each. That probably makes the file invalid as (for example) a
JPEG file, so even if you could find the relevant file in the cache it
probably wouldn't open with other applications anyway.

Files may once have been stored in the cache exactly as downloaded, but
I'd guess the extra data allows some improvement in performance.

I am aware of where the cache is located, the problem is locating the
particular file in the cache directory structure so that another program
can use it via a "File Open" dialog. Within the Cache directory there
are 16 sub-directories, 0-F, each of which contains 256 sub-directories,
00-FF, within each of which the cached files are stored. The files are
named with 5 hex digits and three additional characters with no extension.

Thus on my system a full file name for a cached file might be:

~/.cache/mozilla/seamonkey/{SALT}.default/Cache/A/32/2D35Fd01

I remember being able to get this data somewhere at one point, either
from a pop-up menu on an image or from the data in the view>Page Info
data somewhere. Unfortunately either things have changed or my memory
is faulty.
