Keith,     This is the first time I've heard of a Daniel Pipes connection. It's certainly not difficult to believe. There is definitely an agenda at work, especially having heard of it being reprinted in other European publications. Please share what you know about Mr. Pipes.     Here is a excerpt from an article in the Socialist Worker called "Modern-day witch-hunt,The voices they want to silence" about M. Shahid Alam:     http://www.socialistworker.org/2005-1/532/532_06_WitchHunt     "Pipes declared that Alam 'is a combination of a Marxist and a radical Muslim, someone who sees the Western colonial enterprise as the source of all the problems of the non-Western world. He sees it being the problem in the 18th century,
he sees it as the problem today. Whatever goes wrong with the world is our fault...He has great antagonism toward this country, though I might add, he’s an immigrant to this country.'"     As you listen to him apologetically explain his justification for hating Muslim activists, do you think Pipes was late for that class on Marxism and Muslim Fanaticism?     So, let me see. He must be saying...     To each Jihad according to it's needs, from each Jihad according to it's abilities?     What a ridiculous bucket of swill!     MikeDisclaimer to victims of the McCarthy legacy: You don't have to be a socialist to appreciate good journalism from a socialist source.     Keith Addison <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Hello MikeGood on you!>Absolutely!>>I was at a meeting on Wednesday to organize against global racism >(Re: Danish cartoon/"Can't they take a joke", ethnic slums in >France, etc.).I've been wanting to post something about the cartoons. Absolutely!     I was at a meeting on Wednesday to organize against global racism (Re: Danish cartoon/"Can't they take a joke", ethnic slums in France, etc.). There were people representing chapters of the Campus Antiwar Network and the ISO. At the end of the meeting the discussion shifted to March 18th. There will be a very large mobilization in Connecticut. In the past, United for Peace and Justice has had huge mobilizations with 80,000+ people attending in New York City and entire commuter trains set aside for the ride into the city (popularly known as the "peace train").     Re-inventing the wheel is an appropriate description Keith.     If you want a strong, grass-roots movement to end the war/occupation/Bush regime, activists have already been at it for a long time. March 18 is an international day of action against the Iraq
occupation. Protests are already planned across the world, including
one in Iraq.

Movements, World Social Forum, Venezuala, January 29th

March 18th: International day of mobilisation against the occupation of Iraq

Against the war and occupations. No more wars. Peace is the only solution.

We demand the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of foreign
troops from Iraq and an end to the privatisation of energy resources.

We oppose all occupations by foreign troops and demand an end to the
Israeli occupation of Palestine. We call for the creation of an
independant Palestinian state.

We oppose intervention in Syria, Iran and Latin American countries,
for example Plan Colombia and the presence of foreign military bases.
We also oppose the use of economic blockades as a weapon of war, as
used for example against Cuba.

We call for the the elimination of nuclear weapons and weapons of
mass destruction.

We demand respect for human rights, civil liberties and an end to
torture, kidnappings and illegal detentions including secret prisons.

We call for participation in the Cairo Conference in Egypt on the 23
to the 26th March against US hegemony and the occupation of Iraq.

We call to everyone to mobilise on March 18th 2006 for a day of

I think that's amply illustrated by our government's opposition to
the recent Palestinian elections. Apparently, we only want democracy
when the elected regimes suit our purposes.

Doug - I didn't mean it to offend - I HIGHLY commend what
you're doing - I think it's brilliant. I'm just bringing a potential stumbling
block to your awareness.

I'm wrapped to know there is someone passionate, with a
global awareness, inside the US raising this issue. One of the challenges us
"non Americans" have is to raise these very issues without being
looked upon as complaining. So thank you.

I also note (and love) the Thomas Jefferson quote you put on
one of your other messages.

“The end of
democracy and the defeat of the American revolution will occur when government
falls into the hands of the lending insitutions and moneyed
incorporations."

-President Thomas
Jefferson (a founder of America in condemnation of cartel power. 1743-1826)

Doug - I'm right behand the cause,
the date still concerns me a little because of the confusion it could causeIf
you can find people in the press to publicise what you're up to it'd be
brilliant! Maybe some press coverage (if it's not already arranged) would help
start some conversations across the country.

Good luck
