[swinog] IPv6 pilot testers wanted

2011-10-20 Thread Martin.Gysi
Dear all

Following up on my presentation on Swisscom's IPv6 plans, I can finally
announce that we are ready for a public pilot of IPv6 on DSL for residential
Internet access (formerly known as "bluewin"). The swinog community is happily
invited, should there be Swisscom customers amongst them :-)

Please note that you'll need a router of the latest generation ("centro grande"
or "centro piccolo") to participate -- the ones with the rounded casing without
external WLAN antenna.

You can register for the pilot at http://ipv6test.questionpro.com. We'll then
upgrade your DSL router to the IPv6-capable firmware. After the firmware
upgrade, you may enable (and disable) IPv6 on the customer web portal :
https://sam.sso.bluewin.ch/my/data/ModemMgmtService?mode=overview

Happy testing!
Martin

What about those VDSL Netopias with disabled WLAN acting as a bridge
towards a more capable box? :)

Do we get to see a presentation on how things are done at an upcoming
SwiNOG?

Also, if you pass a list of IPv4 prefixes that might be eligible for
this test to i...@sixxs.net, I can forward this message to all the users
who are using SixXS from that address space. Same goes for other ISPs
who might want that of course.

Greets,
 Jeroen

Hello Martin,

as a Swisscom custommer, i will be pleased to test, anyway, i dont use a
swisscom device (still looking foran appropriate bridge modem) to put in
front of my cisco instead of the motorola modem.

2011-10-20 Thread Andreas Fink
According to Swisscom hotline, Business Internet Light users are not able to
switch to Centro Grande/Centro Picolo as those routers do things different (why
do we have ITU standards for DSL if no one follows them?). I would love to
throw out the cheap Zyxel and do real stuff with real routers and get rid of
the crap.

I have no need to switch, my nice little Netopia plays bridge quite well
and thus nicely delivers a 1500 MTU Ethernet link to my box.

I guess on the Swisscom side they simply use DHCP option 82 to determine
which user one is instead of doing user/pass auth ala PPP, much easier
to deploy too IMHO.

2011-10-21 Thread Jerome Tissieres
Hi Martin,

This is good, and as ISP we are also curious to see when DHCPv6 will
be available on BBCS with our own prefixes. Do you know what is the
road-map for this?

Small remark, the portal below with the survey is only in German.
There is also a part of the population that speaks French and Italian
in Switzerland ...

Best Regards,
Jerome Tissieres

Re: [swinog] IPv6 pilot testers wanted

2011-10-24 Thread Martin.Gysi
Hi Jerome

DHCPv6 will not be available until (guess mode on) about 2015. The internal
architecture of our network does not currently permit native IPv6. That is why
we use 6rd to deploy IPv6. However, 6rd is a very scalable and easy-to-deploy
technology, that can also be used independently by wholesale ISP partners. I
know of one small ISP that uses 6rd today. So for native IPv6, the choice is
today limited to PPP, Ethernet/DHCP must use 6rd (6rd may also be used with
PPP, that's how we do it).

If you're interested in 6rd, you'll have to figure out how to configure the
CPEs with the required parameters. We use TR-69, as we already have such a
device management system in place. Another option is static configuration or
the use of a DHCP (v4) option. That DHCP option is not currently supported by
our DHCP servers, but you were to ask for such a feature, that should be easy
to add.

And yes, I'm aware of that small non-german speaking part of Switzerland ;-), I
lived and studied in Lausanne for 5 years… But as this is just a small-scale
pilot, we cannot go through the efforts to translate everything. Service launch
is imminent, and that will be available in all languages of course.

Best regards,
Martin
