t-and-f: 2000 US marathon list
I'm compiling the 2000 US marathon lists for the USATF Media Guide and FAST annual. A preliminary men's list appears at website below; women to follow shortly. I need info regarding: * anyone not on top 50 list who thinks he should be * anyone whose year of birth is missing * anyone with an incorrect or missing track club affiliation Thanks http://www.runnersworld.com/stats/USmthn00.html Marty Post Senior Editor Runner's World Magazine www.runnersworld.com

t-and-f: World Marathon Champs qualifying
Can anyone out there answer this for me. According to the procedures set forth by USATF, women representatives for the US world marathon team will be picked using the following criteria: "At the recent USA Track & Field Convention, the Long Distance Running Committees established the qualifying procedures for the U.S marathon team at the 2001 IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Edmonton, Canada and for the next U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. For Edmonton, U.S. women who run the five fastest marathon times from January 1, 2000 to April 30, 2001 will be offered roster spots on the U.S. team. Performances run on courses that drop more than 4 meters per kilometer will be excluded." Can anyone say for certain if Boston qualifies under these guidelines? Thanks for the help and happy New Years. Joe

t-and-f: World Marathon Champs qualifying
Yes, Boston qualifies. The two best known U.S. marathon courses that wouldn't are Las Vegas and St. George. And please note that this only applies to the women, not the men for the 2001 World Championships and it does not apply to the 2004 Olympic Marathon Trials qualifying. All USA certified road race courses are cataloged at http://www.usaldr.org. Just click the "tech/measurement" link, then click "certified courses" in the upper left corner of the screen. The BAA Boston Marathon has an elevation loss of 3.2 m/km, and would therefore qualify under the guidelines set forth above. Actually, technically we have 2 under 10.80. We like to think big, more like 2 under 10.75 or 10.70. Of course we plan on a 4x100. Just hate that they are not all American, prevents us from having the official wr. The men will be nothing less than improved. We should have at least 4 under 9.90. Which 4? It really does not matter. We swept the top 3 places last year, but we want the top 4 places, and have the chance to take the top 5 places. The future looks bright. DGS The G.O.A.T.

Darrell wrote: We have acquired a couple of new faces. Christine Arron would be the most well known of the newbies. We are expecting her in the next couple of weeks, and look to set the women's sprints in its side. Natasha Danvers is the newest of the group. She was an Olympic finalist in the 400ih, and ran lead off for the British 4x400m relay. She came to us wanting to be the best, and who are we to refuse the need for speed. Bernard Williams is the old newbie. He joined us in Sacramento, foregoing his senior season at Florida University. He will start his first quarter at UCLA next month. Yes, we stress education also. Melvin Lister is training with his coach in Arkansas, but he is still a member, and a newbie. We expect great things out of the freshman. We will see. > Well now !! That is what I had heard .. So is the Female version of HSI going to put together a 4x1 ?? Seems like you should be able to put together a sub 42.00 squad .. And the men should be ready for the WR .. And you avoided my 3 under 9.90 question .. Course the issue might be if you will be the first team with 2 under 10.80 !?!?! Conway Hill[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Actually I pegged HSI to be the first to have 4 under 20.00 !! With John being the former 400 man he was I have been looking for something to break in the 400 .. Anything coming in that direction ?? OMG (Oh My God). My third post of the night after a good meal, three hours of Sporting Trivial Pursuit and two bottles of wine, (consider the accuracy in the typing). Of course we wouldn't know whether the rule was being violated. But if strange names like Malmo (maybe that's real) and The G.O.A.T (maybe that's real!) kept posting at least we would know they are ashamed or embaarrsed to post in person. Grandmother

Chris Sanders, now a wide receiver with the Tennessee Titans, broke Jesse Owens' Ohio State long jump record on Feb. 15, 1992, indoors at Ames, Iowa. Sanders jumped 26-9 3/4 --- 1 1/2 inches beyond Owens' record. That's not the best mark ever by an NFL wide receiver, though. Eric Metcalf (27-8 1/4) and James Lofton (27-0) are No. 1 and No. 2 on the NFL LJ list. On my last summer all-comer track meet on Aug. 17th, thursday night (not Aug. 19th), the winner of the womens 100 was a women named Mayers (last name) ran 11.50. No one ran 11.53 named Dinkins. If she claims she did, have her talk to me. Our meet record was 11.54, and I sure don't remember having 2 women breaking the record, however, for my records, I only keep the first place winner filed. I didn't have a meet on Aug. 19th anyway.
