RE: Printers

2015-08-15 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
I have a brother all in one laser as well, got it in 2012.
Once you get the software installed, I'm wondering if yours has the speech
feedback. It is one of the alert options and is buried.
It'll say things such as the name of the printer and if it is sleeping, out of
paper, no toner ready etc.

It uses the computers tts to generate the speech and is quite handy.
You can't change any settings on the machine itself without sighted help, the
computer just speaks status messages.

I have recently purchased a Brothers MFC L2700 DW Series All-in-one, laser with
wifi capability. It is not color, of course, but provides all the
functionality needed otherwise. I got it for $129.00 thru Amazon. I did need
some sighted assistance with the software installation but it works quite well.

I have a Cannon, part of the 920 series. I can’t remember the exact model

What I like about it is that it uses WI-FI, thus it is cordless. And, it will
work automatically on my Windows 7 machine, My wife’s XP machine and my wifes
IPad 2. It also works with smart phones.

Of course it is also a copier, fax, etc also.

Upgrading to Window-eyes 9.2

2015-08-15 Thread Michael Massey via Talk
Hi, Bob. Sorry, but I forgot the subject of your post regarding upgrading
to Window-eyes 9.2 from Window-eyes 9.0. The readme clearly states that you
cannot install Window-eyes 9.2 over a version less than 8.x without
contacting Ai Squared. Because you mentioned that you have Window-eyes 9.0,
you can download Window-eyes 9.2 from the website. Go to the help menu by
opening the Window-eyes control panel with control backslash. Press alt-h.
Use either the up or down arrow keys to navigate to check for updates.
Press enter. A page will come up with various options. Tab to the button
that says visit the website. After that page loads find the download
upgrade button and press enter on it. Follow the instructions and you'll be
good to go. After Window-eyes 9.2 is installed then Windows 10 will
install. I don't want to upset any of the list members but, it pays to read
the documentation, particularly in cases of upgrading Window-eyes. I
checked the readme again so I would provide correct information. You won't
have to buy a cd unless you choose to do so. I buy a cd each time an
upgrade is released for my own peace of mind, smile. A cd costs $20.

Mike M

P.S. If you purchased a fotware maintenance agreement (s m a), the upgrade
won't count against your s m a. Since you're upgrading from version 9.0,
you might have to pay $49, but don't quote me on that one, please? I
upgraded from version 9.1, and the upgrade was free because I purchased a s
m a. If I hadn't, I would have had to buy the 9.1 upgrade for $49 If I
provided any incorrect information or if someone can add anything to what I
have posted, please feel free, grin. .

Re: Attn WE Staff - Installing Win 10 and WE

2015-08-15 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Bob,

Unfortunately for a new Windows 10 system you need a full install of
Window-Eyes 9.2. The upgrade only works if you've installed Windows 10
on a system that's already running Window-Eyes 9.2. And that's only
necessary if it was a Windows 7 system because the mirror driver must be
replaced with an accessibility driver. So you'll have to purchase a full
9.2 CD or request a download from AI Squared.

Good luck with the new system.

Tom

Subject: Outlook 2007 issues and Outlook '13 question

Hello all,

This message has two purposes; one to outline some issues with Outlook 2007
and the second to find out if Office 2013 works any better under Windows 7
than it did prior to We 9.X.

First of all to the Outlook 2007 issues. Both of these ar random so I
cannot say when they will happen.
The first is when I'm reading an E-mail using the arrow keys, I can be
reading along and all of a sudden the speech goes away. Pressing ctrl-altW
sometimes brings speech back and sometimes does not even if I get the noise
that indicates it has. Alt-tabbing does nothing to fix the issue either. A
reboot is usually necessary here through use of the power button.

The second issue can occur when trying to navigate to another folder. It
happened tonightas did the above issue. I was finished in my in boxand
wished to go to one of my other folders so I hit ctrl-Y to do this and then
hit the first letter of the folder which in this case was W for the WE list.
I did not see the number of messages so arrowed down and then back up and
pressed enter. I could not read anything in this folder as there was no
speech. The ctrl-alt-W did not work and alt-tabbing did nothing either.
Once again a reboot using the pwower button was necessary.

Please see my system specs and know that this behavior was observed on my
netbook. There are no issues with Word or XL in Office 2007.

Now to the other half of my message. Does Office 2013 work any better using
WE 9.2? The last time I tried it was prior to 9.x on a 32-bit machine which
we no longer have. I want to know if Office 2013 works under windows 7
using We 9.2. Are there any focus issues with XL as there were previously?

Advice would be appreciated as I know not a lot of testing was done with
Office 2007 for the latest WE release and I am getting tired of the crash
issue here.

general sluggishness with 9.2

2015-08-15 Thread David Loux via Talk
Hi list,

I have not experienced several of the "desktop" issues mentioned recently on
this list, however, I am noticing a general sluggishness with V9.2.

I have noticed some of the things others have mentioned, particularly with
Outlook. If I am too quick to review the content of a message with the
arrow keys, I get stuck in the subject field. If I wait for the message to
start to be spoken by WE, this does not happen, and all is well.

When in Excel, when I enter data, and move away from the cell, with either
the tab or arrow keys, and move back to review, (too quickly), We does not
speak the cell content.
There is a significant delay before I can review that content. Also in
Excel, often I am not able to edit cell content as WE won't read the
content, and all I get is a ping tone. This is an intermittent problem, as
I can sometimes try again immediately, and speech is back.

As I have no great need to upgrade, I am currently running Office 2007, and
Windows 7, on a new Dell Inspiron. I realize that staying with software
that is several generations out-of-date, is possibly a contributing factor
to whatever issues I may be experiencing.

Overall, I think that WE is a great product. Sometimes a little patience
goes a long way, and an occasional reboot can cure any number of issues.
Sometimes, walking away, and coming back later, works wonders as well!

Well, so far, I have had to re-boot twice, and re start WE once.
failure were when I was using Word 2010, as well as Becky email.

I too have noticed that if I go too fast, I am likely to over drive WE
into losing Speech. Twice I have needed to re boot, and once I was able
to re start WE.

I am running 9.1.

I am a faster than average typist. Is it possible to be typing too fast
for WE to keep up?

Even tapping the Down Arrow quickly will cause WE to stop speaking.

Today, I had stepped away from the computer for about 30 minutes. I
came back and pressed the down arrow once, and I heard part of a single
Word, and the Speech was gone.Had to re boot.

I use my system all day, and I probably have my system fail 3 to 5 times
a day. More if I am on the internet.

I have found I need to re boot after about five or six hours of computer
usage.

Not fun.

I have found I need to re boot after about five or six hours of computer
usage.

Not fun.

Hi Jim,

just type "printer" in the search box under start, without the quotes and
you will get there.

Hi there GROUP!
Found the printers list and the default printer was one that I have never
heard of? I was unable to find the spot where I could select a printer.
Can someone remind me of where to look? I am running Windows 7 at the
present time and am going to update my windows as well as my printer soon!
Any suggestions on where I can look? Hopefully I have given enough info..?

THANKS MUCH! de

Re: Question About Narator

Bob,

In Word Control-U toggles underline, just like B for bold and I for italic.

You can also start Narrator with Windows-R to open the Run dialog, type
Narrator, and hit enter.

I assume you're editing excp.dic manually? e.g. in Notepad or some other
plain text editor. If so you have to reload Window-Eyes so it will
reload the dictionary.

The extended dictionary app offers much more than the standard exception
dictionary.

A new version has been promised but no idea when it will appear. When
it is ready probably.
