Re: Question Concerning Browse Mode

2016-01-06 Thread Lloyd Rasmussen via Talk
I am guessing. On many dynamic web pages, as you arrow down or press Tab,
much of the content of the browse buffer is being rewritten with each
keystroke. When you are in Browse mode, W-E has to be ready to read all of
that stuff, so your computer is constantly processing a lot of data. This is
why Read to End sometimes doesn't work correctly or consistently in web
pages anymore.
When you are out of Browse mode, W-E only has to speak the item that was
focused with the Tab key, which is usually a shorter string. Some of these
pages are really web applications, relying on a lot of JavaScript to
continually alter parts of the page as you traverse it.
As I said, this is only a guess, but starting at Window-Eyes 9, as well s
newer versions of JAWS and NVDA, this is the web world we need to grapple
with.

Subject: Question Concerning Browse Mode

This does not rise to the level of a complaint; just a curiosity. This
occurs on my IE-MSN home page, and certain websites, most notably,

http://www.nyrmb

When I tab through the links in browse mode, WE seems sluggish, but if I
turn browse mode off, I can tab faster and each link is read
consistently. Most other sites I've been to, don't have this issue.
Can anything be done?

Hi all Beckie users

Has anyone else experienced a discrepancy between the message spoken as
selected and the message which is in fact selected?
The effect of this is, for example, arrowing down a list of messages in
a mailbox when you first open Beckie, pressing delete on the selected
message, only to find that a different message is now in "trash". I
have also replied to a selected message, only to find that I'm replying
to some other message, which can be embarrassing.
Any fellow sufferers?

RE: Becky Internet email and read to end

2016-01-06 Thread Chris Grabowski via Talk
In doing a little more testing, at least for me, this isn't an ideal solution
as some messages are not html and browse mode doesn't kick on with those emails.
When it views an html email it seems to work well.

Hi,
For those using Becky Internet email, try going to tools/general switch to the
message view tab.
In the HTML view, the item is set to convert to text switch it to view with IE
component.
This will allow read to end to function as the messages load in browse mode.
I have only tested it for 5 minutes so don't know of any side effects this may
have (if any).

Re: message selection in Beckie

2016-01-06 Thread Mike Rogers via Talk
This has happened to me multiple times and has caused embarrassment, when
replying to the wrong message. Now I'm very careful. One thing that helps,
is, when opening the inbox, arrow up or down to another message, then go back
to the message you want to read or reply to. This problem only happens, when
the folder is first opened. After arrowing up or down and back to the message,
the problem seems to go away. Hope this helps. Sometimes when replying, i
shift tab to the "send to" bos, to make sure it's the right person.

Filtering out strings on web pages

2016-01-06 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk
Hi all.

I hope the following is understandable: it is a feature I'd like to see
incorporated into the next release of Window-eyes.

My local newspaper's online edition is becoming more cluttered with promotions
of services and products. For example: above each article, there are
opportunities to "like on Facebook", "follow on Twitter" etc. Often, within
the articles themselves, there are embedded advertorials often headed as
"insight."

It would be great if within Browse Mode there was the ability to customise
strings which would be ignored when read-to-end is invoked. In many instances,
the usual navigation keys are helpful, but the reading flow is interrupted too
many times to make the paper reading enjoyable. It should be possible to turn
off the filter if in fact, I do want to share on Facebook, follow n Twitter etc.

Hope the above makes sense.

Vaughan.

I just hooked up a Brailliant BI 32 running firmware 2.1.00.

Under Windows 10, it claims that the brailliant is on com4. Accordingly, I
told Window-Eyes 9.3 to look for it on com4. When I hit the activate button,
the display goes blank as if it intends to work, then it goes back to the
Brailliant main screen.

I've restarted both the PC and Window-Eyes to no avail. Any other ideas?

This is definitely overkill. After reviewing and unsuccessfully

HumanWare Brailliant BI 32 won't work with WE 9.3 and Win 10 Pro

2016-01-06 Thread Crabb, Nolan via Talk
I just hooked up a Brailliant BI 32 running firmware 2.1.00.

Under Windows 10, it claims that the brailliant is on com4. Accordingly, I told
Window-Eyes 9.3 to look for it on com4. When I hit the activate button, the
display goes blank as if it intends to work, then it goes back to the
Brailliant main screen.

I've restarted both the PC and Window-Eyes to no avail. Any other ideas?

Re: Selection: Selecting Text

2016-01-06 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
Well, the F8 method works fine here. Although I agree. Having two
context dependent selection methods is a bit of a pain for that fraction
of a second I have to stop and think which one to use. That is if I
don't use the wrong one without thinking because browse mode spans
browsers, email messages (only when viewing), and help files. It's
certainly not intuitive and I like my screen-reader to be as unobtrusive
as possible.
