I use netflix a few years ago and it was pretty easy to use with a screen

contacted them several times when they made the changes and was kinda told

No feedback in combo boxes in internet explorer

Thanks,

You're correct, Larry. The only thing I would add is that you can move
to the beginning and end of the text you want to select using any
browse mode method, ie. Home to beginning of line, End to end of line,
Control-Home, Control-End, and any other browse mode hot keys. This is
because F8 is only applicable while within browse mode; nowhere else.
And this is where it can get confusing.

Let's say you're on a web page. F8 is the only selection method while
in browse mode. Then you exit browse mode and enter an edit box.
You're no longer in browse mode and F8 does not apply. Standard
Shifted key selection must be used here. The same goes for reading and
replying to email messages, assuming your email client displays
messages in browse mode.

Just a slight correction, or maybe a clarification.

You need to locate the first character you wish to select, then press
F8, then arrow to the last character you wish to select, then press F8
again, and then you will be presented with your options from which to
choose.

One thing you might also remember, that if you should use the ctrl key
to select by word, that you will need to select the last word one letter
at a time. If this isn't actually true, someone please let me know, but
this little quirk had me confused for a while until either I figured it
out, or came to just accept the inconvenient of it all.

On the whole I've really come to like the F8 arrangement, because you
can select from between headers in Web pages, or much of the time in my
case, Bookshare DAISY books, and not have to worry about losing any of
the text by pressing either header keys or tabs. It just works so
beautifully so far.

Re: Opening Web Links in Becky

2016-01-14 Thread Reg Webb via Talk
For accessing mails which have primarily been designed to read
on the Web, rather than as plain text, if I tab from the open message,
there is usually a file called something like text to HTML. If you
press the applications key or right click on that, one of the menu
options is open with. Pressing enter on that gives you a list which, in
my case at least, includes Firefox. Selecting that gets me the Web
based email properly displayed with all its links.

Hi Simon,

I just tested this on my Windows 10 32-bit PC running IE 11, Firefox 43.02
and Window-Eyes 9.3.1. After opening the Get More Voices page, I pressed C
and jumped to the first combo box. I turned Browse Mode off with Enter.
Window-Eyes then voiced the combo box selection as I arrowed through the
list with Up and Down arrow. I then tabbed to all the other combo boxes on
the page and they also read as expected. I am using the default settings in
both browsers other than setting my home page to Google. The only thing I
can think of is maybe the combo boxes you are working with are empty would
explain why nothing speaks with Up and Down arrow.

Re: possible announce hashtag script?

2016-01-14 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk

Chris,

While in your browser open the Window-Eyes control panel.
Go to Dictionaries, Status, Character dictionaries include program
dictionary, and check it.

This should create a dictionary such as IE.chr for IE.
F6 back to Status and arrow down to Character dictionary.
Then tab to Original and Replacement and enter the number sign and hash
tag respectively.
Keep tabbing down and you should see that it's in the IE.chr or whatever
browser you're using character dictionary.

Keep going until you hit the Save button and activate it.

Hth,
Tom

are huge on there. As it is now, Window-eyes does not announce what the
hashtag actually is, so I was thinking it'd be kind of nice to be able
to hear the words "hash tag" before the actual text of the hashtag
itself. For those not familiar, a hashtag is a series of characters
proceeded by a number sign. If the hashtag is multiple words, it all
gets run together. To make them understood a little better, some people
will put capital letters at the beginning of each word so it's easier to
tell what it's actually saying.
For example, if you're watching Monday Night Football and you're
tweeting about it, you would use the #MNF hashtag. So for example, if
you saw a tweet with that particular hashtag, Window-eyes would say,
hash tag MNF, instead of number mnf.

I atempted to do this with the pronunciation dictionary, but didn't
have much luck, since the text of the hashtag is constantly going to be
different. I'm wondering if there's a way to do this in Window-eyes
itself, or would a script have to be written to achieve this? Also, I'm
sure that not everyone wants this behavior all the time, so a setting to
disable it would be good too. Like I said I'm totally not a scripting
guru, but as I was going through tweets one night, I thought to myself
that it'd be nice to have this functionality. Let me know if this is
even doable, and if so, how I can make this happen.

Thanks guys!

Re: possible announce hashtag script?

2016-01-14 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
If you want it to be global just put it in the standard char.chr
dictionary. Below are the instructions from the manual. Note at the end
how you can associate it with the font. That would cut down on hash tag
being voiced in other programs using other fonts.
The unicode value is 23. So you'd enter "/x23" without the quotes. Note
the slash.

The Character Dictionary The character dictionary functions like the
pronunciation dictionary. The difference is that Window-Eyes uses the
character dictionary to alter its pronunciation of any Unicode
character, whether it is surrounded by other characters or is displayed
alone on the screen.

To add an entry to a Window-Eyes character dictionary:
Press the Edit Dictionaries hot key, which is Control-Shift-E by
default, to reach the dictionaries settings group in the Window-Eyes
control panel. Or, press Control-Backslash, and press "D" until you
reach the "Dictionaries" settings group.

Press the right arrow to expand the node.
Press the down arrow until the Character option is selected.
Tab to the "Original" edit box, and type the character whose
pronunciation you want to change. If your mouse pointer was on a
character when you pressed Control-Shift-E, then this box will already
contain it.
Tab to the "Replacement" edit box, and enter the text Window-Eyes should
speak when it encounters the character.
Tab to the "Update Entry" button, and press the Space Bar to add the
newly defined character definition to the dictionary.
You can Tab to the list of defined characters and remove either a single
entry, or you can delete all character entries in the active dictionary
at once. See the detailed explanation of the Window-Eyes control panel
later in this user's guide for additional information about these controls.
If you wish to define a character which cannot be typed from the
keyboard, you can use an alternative method. For example, an Unicode 147
is often used as a quote symbol. But this character cannot easily be
typed from the keyboard. You can use the following to make an entry for
this character:

/x147
Simply start the entry with the Slash key followed by the Unicode value
of the character you want to define.
If the character was automatically placed in the original edit box
because you pressed the Edit Dictionaries hot key with the mouse pointer
sitting on the character, you will also have the option of associating
the font of the character in question with the entry. That is,
Window-Eyes will only voice the replacement text for the character if
both the character name and font match what is stored in the dictionary.

Rules in Outlook 2013 work well for me, including on my IMAP account.

Have you posted your scenario to the list to see if others are experiencing
it?

Cheers,

Ed

Subject: Warning regarding Outlook 2013 and above

Hello all,

First of all, please be careful with reply to all as this message is being
cross-posted to a couple of lists.

If you are using outlook 2013 and likely above that, you CANNOT create rules
any longer. This looks to be especially true if you use something like
gmail which uses imap.

I've tried to do this and keep getting a message that a value is missing
even though nothing looks as though it is missing.

I specify the folder and the address book but something is missing or so
the rules wizard thinks so.

Just thought you ought to know so you don't aggravate yourself trying to
create rules when it is impossible to do so. Microsoft may think they know
what people want, but they don't in this case.

Thanks.

We The People petition on accessibility

On July 26, 2010, the twentieth anniversary of the signing of the historic
Americans
with Disabilities Act (ADA), an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM)
addressing
the obligation of public accommodations to provide websites that are accessible
to
individuals with disabilities was issued by the United States Department of
Justice
(DOJ). At the time, President Obama correctly observed that these proposed
rules
would be “the most important updates to the ADA since its original enactment.”
Yet
the release date of the actual rule proposal for revising the Title III
regulations
of the ADA, originally scheduled for January of 2012, has been extended until
sometime
in 2018, eight years beyond the issuance of the original ANPRM and at least a
year
after the end of his administration. Having originally taken a strong stance on
the
importance of these regulations, it now seems like the Obama administration is
wishing
to wash its hands of them entirely.
As blind Americans, we know first-hand that equal access to the internet is
paramount
for education, to obtain and retain employment, and for everyday tasks such as
paying
bills, online shopping, booking travel, etc. We will not sit idly by as the
administration
attempts to sideline this critical access issue, so we have launched a petition
demanding,
in the strongest terms possible, that the administration issue these regulations
immediately.
http://wh.gov/iwm9o
Upon reaching 100,000 signatures, the Obama administration is required to
respond,
so in addition to sharing our we the people petition via Email and your social
media
outlets, please personally ask 10 family members, friends, and colleagues to
sign
it and share it as well. A little personal contact goes a long way!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Gabe; with your
help,
we will bring this critical issue for blind Americans to the forefront of the
Obama
administration’s list of priorities. Let’s go build the Federation!

RE: No feedback in combo boxes in internet explorer

2016-01-14 Thread Marc Solomon via Talk
Hi Simon,

I just tested this on my Windows 10 32-bit PC running IE 11, Firefox 43.02 and
Window-Eyes 9.3.1. After opening the Get More Voices page, I pressed C and
jumped to the first combo box. I turned Browse Mode off with Enter. Window-Eyes
then voiced the combo box selection as I arrowed through the list with Up and
Down arrow. I then tabbed to all the other combo boxes on the page and they
also read as expected. I am using the default settings in both browsers other
than setting my home page to Google. The only thing I can think of is maybe the
combo boxes you are working with are empty would explain why nothing speaks
with Up and Down arrow.

Regards,
Marc

Hi,

I went to the page from which one can download vocalizer voices for
Window-eyes. When I opened the combo box in which to choose a language and
then the following one where you choose the voice, I had no voice feedback from
Window-eyes. Had I not been using a Braille display, I wouldn't be able to
make the choice. I run latest window-eyes in Windows 10 64bit. Anybody else
had this experience? Can it be fixed or is it a bug?

Many thanks

Simon

RE: ie 11 windows 10 context menu key

2016-01-14 Thread Barbara via Talk
I am having a similar issue using the context key for anything in IE11. I
am using Windows 7 however. I had been given a tip if I turned off my
braille display, then it works. It does, but it is crazy to have to turn my
braille display off/on all the time. Let us hope this gets resolved soon.

Hi, anyone having problems using the "context" key then "t" to copy a link,
it will work for a bit but after a few times we will crash. If you right
