RE: junk email
If gmail were identifying the messages as SPAm, the messages wouldn't even make it to the Junk folder. RE: Anyone heard from AI Squared about their e-list problems and the detailed postings about potential causes and resolutions
Rick: From my recollection, the email in question allowed for a simple reply leaving the subject line in tact. This avoids the necessity to click on a link. -Original Message- From: Talk [mailto:talk-bounces+richard.applegate=gmail@lists.window-eyes.com] On Behalf Of Rick Thomas via Talk Sent: Saturday, August 29, 2015 5:57 AM To: 'Steve Jacobson'; 'Window-Eyes Discussion List' Subject: RE: Anyone heard from AI Squared about their e-list problems and the detailed postings about potential causes and resolutions Hi Steve: First, For me clicking the Reinstate link in the e-mail telling me my account had been disable seemed to work. That said, it is risky to ever click on anything inside a e-mail message unless you are 100 percent sure who the sender was. Financial institutions include enough partial information in such a e-mail to ensure it is related to the actual sender and your account to avoid bad guys from spoofing, fishing or even trying to impart a virus on your machine in their name. After talking on list I was pretty sure the message was from AI Squared so did that after having tried to do it via the Website which I couldn't get to work - at least not quickly. Next, there is a process where the providers like Comcast, Brighthouse, Yahoo and most others will ping back any messages sent to them to see if it was sent from a valid, active, e-mail address and this, I think, is a part of the DKIM standards put in place and adopted since think around 2005. If a valid return is not received they will bounce back the message to your provider, usually also sending it through to the end point but sometimes flagging it as spam, sometimes not before it gets to the endpoint client. Your providers Mailman will get the postbacks, bounces, as a warning that there was a potential security issue with the message sent from your Mailman server and check the settings to see how to handle them. Unless setup to handle these bounces your providers Mailman will increment a counter depending on the bounceback level, hard or soft, for the person who tried to send the message through the providers Mailman server. If Mailman is configured to disable an account after a certain number of bounces your client will then be automatically disabled when that threshold has been reached. The bouncebacks your Mailman Provider is getting is thus likely due to the fact it is not setup to handle the ping backs, security tests, that the big providers use, gets their bounces even if they send the message through to the end user marked as spam, not marked as spam or the big provider might not even send it through but they all will generate a bounce back to your Mailman Provider if Mailman and your Host Provider are not setup properly. Of course, without having access to your providers hardware and software there is no way for me to either verify this nor fix it. This is what several folks have told me they have encountered in the past and others have told me the same thing and to look into the Domain thingy - I forget exactly what it is called but think the acronym was DKIM.This is not in my programming wheelhouse so I had to dig to find out what may be going on via the symptoms reported by everyone. It is a standard all the big e-mail host providers agreed to use from what I remember about that article I posted here much like the w3c standards or iso standards with a governing body and all that jazz. I know you are a pretty good programmer so take a look at things, Mailman Documentation and see what it says about bouncebacks and automatic removel of clients and settings, then read up on the DKIM thing, I will go find the actual name if you get stuck but the document was in one of my prior postings. If this is not the problem let me know so I wont be barking up the wrong tree. I wont get mad or hurt feelings, I just want to get the job done. Your fault, my fault, nobodys fault - just get it done is my philosophy. This may mean tweaking the software or even finding a new provider but many of us are on several other high traffic lists and don't have these problems. One other thing to look at not mentioned is that someone may have put your lists on a BlackList which some of the list providers look at - remember that hacker who didn't seem to like you guys? So you might peek at them to ensure your lists are not being black listed before stranggling your list provider. That's all I have unless there is anything I can look up or ask folks who actually know about this stuff, I don't know much myself but enough to ask questions that usually get answered by the folks I need to talk to. Could it be that you are trying to navigate the message too quickly? I often experience the same problem. I can alt-Tab to other programs and back to the page but Window-Eyes won't read anything. However, when I press Alt-),, the web address will be read. Unlike other sites, you can't talk with anyone at Google about Google Groups. It's quite a joke when one can't even create an account to get on a list that is supposed to help visually-impaired people. Oh yes, there is AxisReader for reading Epubs--the Iphone app. Again,I can't sign up for a Google Groups acount so I can get on a mailing list to ask anyone about this. I can't even read the reference manual. Sorry for the rant, but I'm just frustrated. My Saturday was an utter failure. Back to my three priorities: They are improved web access including improved focus and use of the mouse, OCR capabilities including captcha solving, and fix Read-to-End in WLM when composing or replying to a message. -Original Message- From: Jeremy Curry via Talk Sent: Thursday, May 28, 2015 2:32 PM To: t...@window-eyes.com Subject: Seeking Your Input Hello Everyone, We are constantly working behind the scenes to improve our products. I would like to see as much support as possible for these accessibility methods in the scripting language, in developer documentation and example code. Programmers need really clear examples of when to set the name, value, description, role, etc. of these controls. If the mouse pointer can be used with any of these, that would be a bonus. Keep working on web browser support, for all three browsers. You might want to have a quirks mode, trying to fix bugs in popular web sites and site building tools' output, as well as a WCAG standards mode that gives web developers an experience of what an ideal user agent will do if the pages are coded properly, with no allowance for quirks. It goes without saying that you will need to support touch gestures. You will need to continue to educate users and developers concerning the causes of some of the crashes or apparent crashes. I think most of us don't have any idea how difficult it is to work with modern web pages and apps. People have forgotten that sometimes pressing ctrl-shift-W twice will give information that's not available otherwise, and that other programs can only be read by moving the mouse pointer around. You will gain the best market share by staying up-to-date and by being stable and dependable, not by adding more unique features or free speech synthesizers. Though I can't always remember how to perform money transfers, there is accessible help. Their mobile app, in my opinion, is far from accessible despite my reporting problems several times. IN theory many Web sites are supposed to be accessible. Unfortunately, I'm not sure developers are getting objective evaluations of their sites' accessibility. Googling Google Docs
To anyone interested in using Google Docs with Window-Eyes: I did a little google search regarding one of the features of Google Docs. I thought the results might be helpful to others. Here's what Google Help has to say about Compact and Normal Controls: Full screen mode and compact controls If you've ever wanted more room to work in one of your documents, you can now free up some space by viewing them in full screen or compact controls mode. Here's how: For compact controls, click the Hide the menus button on the right side of the toolbar. You can also go to the View menu and select Compact controls or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+F. For full screen mode, go to the View menu and select Full screen. If you're in full screen mode, you can return to regular viewing mode by hitting the Esc or Escape key. Google Docs will remember the view settings you've selected for your documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and drawings. For example, if you change your view setting to Full screen while working on a document and to Compact controls while working on a presentation, the next time you open or create a document or presentation, it will open in that app's most recent view mode (Full screen and Compact controls, respectively). Spreadsheets will remain in compact controls mode between sessions, but not in full screen mode. A couple notes: 1. To activate Compact Control Mode, or leave the same, you will need to either use the bypass key (INSERT-b by default,) or change the Window-Eyes Search hotkey (CTRL-SHIFT-f by default.) 2. Depending on your Browse Mode/Autoload settings, when leaving full-screen mode, ESCAPE may place you in Browse Mode; If so, you will need to hit escape a second time to return to Normal Viewing mode. Remember to hit CTRL-SHIFT-a to leave Browse Mode before attempting to edit or navigate your document. HTH. RE: Window-Eyes 9 and Google Drive
Hi Mark: I am definitely not hearing punctuation when I type it or cursor over it. Just as a test, what happens if you hit ESCAPE to activate Browse mode and then use the up or down arrow? If I arrow down I find the link that says Screen reader mode is active, or something like that. If I then use CTRL-SHIFT-a to toggle Browse mode off, I am no-longer in the edit area of the document. CTRL-ALT-z first toggles screen reader mode off. I am using WIN 7HP with FF 35.0.1 and Window-Eyes 9.0.0. I have all screen punctuation turned off (globally) and all keyboard punctuation turned on (globally). When I get into Google Docs, the screen reader support mode turns on automatically. If it doesn't, the hot key to toggle this feature is Control-Alt-Z. Once it is enabled, I am hearing punctuation as I type and when I cursor by character. When I navigate to a line of text with Up or Down Arrow, Window-Eyes does not announce the punctuation and honors my screen punctuation settings. Not sure why you are getting the results you are but wanted to let you know I cannot duplicate the issue with the settings and environment listed above. I am also able to turn Browse Mode on manually with Control-Shift-A and then turn it off again without issue. For me, the insertion point stays in the document regardless of the state of Browse Mode and as soon as Browse Mode is turned off, I am able to begin working in the document area again. On a side, note, there is a Enable Braille support option under the settings pull down in the Accessibility menu of the Google Docs toolbar (Alt-Shift-A). If I turn this option on, I get the best possible experience in speech tool. I hope you find this info helpful. FW: Window-Eyes 9 and Google Drive
Okay, I think I have solved the punctuation issue, at least for the second and third instance: One needs to turn the various punctuations on in the Screen node of the Control Panel. I don't like this solution as I don't wish to hear the punctuation spoken when I am reading by line, sentence etc.; I just want to be able to hear the punctuation when I cursor across it. The speaking of the punctuation when I type it is a keyboard punctuation issue. As for the phantom space issue, this may be related to the way the insertion point is reported, either by Window-Eyes or by Google Docs. Either way, it is quite awkward. I still have found no solution for re-enabling the editing of a document after erroneously entering Browse mode. -Original Message- From: Richard G Applegate [mailto:richard.appleg...@gmail.com] Sent: Saturday, February 21, 2015 6:42 PM To: Window-Eyes Discussion List (talk@lists.window-eyes.com) Subject: Window-Eyes 9 and Google Drive Hello listers: I have just been tooling around with Google Drive and Window-Eyes 9.
