RE: junk email

2015-09-14 Thread Richard G Applegate via Talk
If gmail were identifying the messages as SPAm, the messages wouldn't even
make it to the Junk folder. It appears that either the mail client or a
personal mail filter is identifying the messages as junk.

if they are useing gmail they have to log onto there web mail spam folder and
mark your messages as not spam. then it will be added to there white list and
will go to the in box from then on.
other wise they have to add your email to the safe list in there program and
turn off email fishing so they will not be marked as spam.

Hi,

Am using win 7. And Wineyes 9.2 When I send emails from outlook 2013 to some
friends in my contacts list, it finihshes up in their junk folder, rather
than there in box. Not all friends, just some.

Anyone know why this is?

Apart from the fact it could be indicative of the intelectual content of my
email messages, is there some technical reason?

Ross.

Subject: RE: Anyone heard from AI Squared about their e-list problems and the
detailed postings about potential causes and resolutions

Hi Steve:
First, For me clicking the Reinstate link in the e-mail telling me my
account had been disable seemed to work.
That said, it is risky to ever click on anything inside a e-mail message
unless you are 100 percent sure who the sender was.
Financial institutions include enough partial information in such a e-mail
to ensure it is related to the actual sender and your account to avoid bad
guys from spoofing, fishing or even trying to impart a virus on your machine
in their name.
After talking on list I was pretty sure the message was from AI Squared so
did that after having tried to do it via the Website which I couldn't get to
work - at least not quickly.
Next, there is a process where the providers like Comcast, Brighthouse, Yahoo
and most others will ping back any messages sent to them to see if it was
sent from a valid, active, e-mail address and this, I think, is a part of
the DKIM standards put in place and adopted since think around 2005.
If a valid return is not received they will bounce back the message to your
provider, usually also sending it through to the end point but sometimes
flagging it as spam, sometimes not before it gets to the endpoint client.
Your providers Mailman will get the postbacks, bounces, as a warning that
there was a potential security issue with the message sent from your Mailman
server and check the settings to see how to handle them.
Unless setup to handle these bounces your providers Mailman will increment
a counter depending on the bounceback level, hard or soft, for the person
who tried to send the message through the providers Mailman server.
If Mailman is configured to disable an account after a certain number of
bounces your client will then be automatically disabled when that threshold
has been reached.
The bouncebacks your Mailman Provider is getting is thus likely due to the
fact it is not setup to handle the ping backs, security tests, that the big
providers use, gets their bounces even if they send the message through to
the end user marked as spam, not marked as spam or the big provider might
not even send it through but they all will generate a bounce back to your
Mailman Provider if Mailman and your Host Provider are not setup properly.
Of course, without having access to your providers hardware and software
there is no way for me to either verify this nor fix it.
This is what several folks have told me they have encountered in the past
and others have told me the same thing and to look into the Domain thingy -
I forget exactly what it is called but think the acronym was DKIM.This is
not in my programming wheelhouse so I had to dig to find out what may be
going on via the symptoms reported by everyone.
It is a standard all the big e-mail host providers agreed to use from what I
remember about that article I posted here much like the w3c standards or iso
standards with a governing body and all that jazz.
I know you are a pretty good programmer so take a look at things, Mailman
Documentation and see what it says about bouncebacks and automatic removel
of clients and settings, then read up on the DKIM thing, I will go find the
actual name if you get stuck but the document was in one of my prior
postings.
If this is not the problem let me know so I wont be barking up the wrong
tree.
I wont get mad or hurt feelings, I just want to get the job done.
Your fault, my fault, nobodys fault - just get it done is my philosophy.
This may mean tweaking the software or even finding a new provider but many
of us are on several other high traffic lists and don't have these problems.
One other thing to look at not mentioned is that someone may have put your
lists on a BlackList which some of the list providers look at - remember
that hacker who didn't seem to like you guys?
So you might peek at them to ensure your lists are not being black listed
before stranggling your list provider.
That's all I have unless there is anything I can look up or ask folks who
actually know about this stuff, I don't know much myself but enough to ask
questions that usually get answered by the folks I need to talk to.

I believe what he is asking about is the Previous Position hotkey which is
found within the Hotkeys/Browse mode section of the Control Panel. On my
computer, this hotkey is set as INSERT-r but then again this key combination is
also set to Reclass in the Hotkeys/Miscellaneous section.
Both are set to Global. When I hit this hotkey while in Browse Mode from

Chris: Your approach only works assuming the previous position was in fact

When hitting enter on a link and going to that page, how do you get
back to the previous link? Hitting alt left arrow hasn't work the way
it use to for a long time. I had a work around by copying the link to
the clipboard then hit enter on the link. When I wanted to go back to
the previous link, I'd hit alt left arrow, once I was back at the
previous page, I'd hit shift control F and paste the link from the
clipboard and hit enter and I'd be back at the previous link. This
hasn't worked in the last 2 versions of wineyes. Using current version
of FX and wineyes. Vista home.

Could it be that you are trying to navigate the message too quickly? I often
experience the same problem. Closing the message, reopening the message and
waiting for Window-Eyes to finish reading the summary information works for me.
I.E. when I opened this message, Window-Eyes spoke: RE: outlook jumping
fields when opening message, plane text. If I wait for this information to
finish speaking before trying to cursor through the message I can navigate the
message as expected.
I doubt it has anything specifically to do with the information being read,
it likely just requires time for Window-Eyes to finish processing the message.

I can see that the cursor is blinking at the top of the message on the ones
that read correctly and, for those that I need to Shift tab and tab back, the
cursor is not visible until I shift tab and tab. When I hit shift tab, I hear
subject, then tabbing brings me to the body. Of the four messages at the top

consistency or difference between those four, such as message format,

Try routing the mouse to the top left of the main Outlook window and see if it

Sometimes, I will use the down arrow to browse links so that I can read
any text between two links for example. As I arrow down, I'll get info
like end navagation or end list (or both) and that info is often
attached to a link. This sometimes causes me to miss that link at

articles, lists and navagations? And while I'm asking questions, I told

When I'm on that site, browsing links, WE will say the letter C, to let
me know that this is the first post in a thread, and then the letter D
for the next one, and I believe the letter S for subsequent posts in a
thread. Can I eliminate that feature as well? Thanks for this list. I

I am running win7-64 bit desktop using WE9.1. At some point today,
after trying to figure out why the accessible google page would no
longer read, I ran into this horrible problem:

Using Window-Eyes, I can no longer read the screen in either firefox or
IE 9. If I use ctrl-shift-w, I can read that there is information on
the screen, but there is no access to anything with the keys. There is
a small amount of text that is visible with the mouse keys in firefox,
but it is not practical to read with. I do have access to the menues.
Whatever the problem is, I was able to use NVDA to read and navigate the
pages, but I don't use that program except when I get into trouble with
WE. Therefore, I only have a very basic working knowledge of the
program and miss all of my Window-Eyes keystrokes and options, i.e.,
copying text. At this point, I wouldn't even care about formatting if I
could at least get the information from the page. Please, does anyone
have any ideas why both browsers would have stopped reading and what I
can do to fix the problem? To the best of my knowledge, only the
browsers do not work. Thanks to anyone that can help me.

Carol (Confused)

Indeed! I took much time to write a program to manage my stock brokerage
account e*trade, from the desktop per their suggestions about accessibility.
After much work and during my first test instead of entering my id and
password they popped up a captcha in addition so that puppy was put to
sleep.
I cant read them and 90 percent of the time cant pick out which letters and
numbers from the garbled speech if there is even a speech option for the
captcha.
I was allot more annoyed since they told me creating my own UI interface
using their API would be a good thing and, if no captcha, would indeed have
been a good thing for blind users of e*trade.
Other places around the net use them and I just don't make use of their
services but that limits my ability to get things done in a prudant and, or,
efficient manner.
If there was an automated captcha handler, that would open up these
situations for use by the blind who have trouble with captchas.

I actually think that a built-in captcha decoder is a terrific idea. It

JAWS and especially NVDA are ahead of Window-Eyes in the use of iAccessible2

and UIA accessibility hooks. I would like to see as much support as possible

for these accessibility methods in the scripting language, in developer
documentation and example code. Programmers need really clear examples of
when to set the name, value, description, role, etc. of these controls. If
the mouse pointer can be used with any of these, that would be a bonus.
Keep working on web browser support, for all three browsers. You might want
to have a quirks mode, trying to fix bugs in popular web sites and site
building tools' output, as well as a WCAG standards mode that gives web
developers an experience of what an ideal user agent will do if the pages
are coded properly, with no allowance for quirks.
It goes without saying that you will need to support touch gestures.
You will need to continue to educate users and developers concerning the
causes of some of the crashes or apparent crashes. I think most of us don't
have any idea how difficult it is to work with modern web pages and apps.
People have forgotten that sometimes pressing ctrl-shift-W twice will give
information that's not available otherwise, and that other programs can only

be read by moving the mouse pointer around.
You will gain the best market share by staying up-to-date and by being
stable and dependable, not by adding more unique features or free speech
synthesizers.

IN theory many Web sites are supposed to be accessible. Unfortunately, I'm

their typical user(s.) Accessibility is not the only victim of this

well why not get around that by using the open source tesseract engine for

Googling Google Docs

2015-03-13 Thread Richard G Applegate via Talk
To anyone interested in using Google Docs with Window-Eyes:

I did a little google search regarding one of the features of Google Docs. I
thought the results might be helpful to others.

Here's what Google Help has to say about Compact and Normal Controls:

Full screen mode and compact controls
If you've ever wanted more room to work in one of your documents, you can now
free up some space by viewing them in full screen or compact controls mode.
Here's how:
For compact controls, click the Hide the menus button on the right side of the
toolbar. You can also go to the View menu and select Compact controls or use
the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+F.
For full screen mode, go to the View menu and select Full screen.
If you're in full screen mode, you can return to regular viewing mode by
hitting the Esc or Escape key.
Google Docs will remember the view settings you've selected for your documents,
spreadsheets, presentations, and drawings. For example, if you change your view
setting to Full screen while working on a document and to Compact controls
while working on a presentation, the next time you open or create a document or
presentation, it will open in that app's most recent view mode (Full screen
and Compact controls, respectively).
Spreadsheets will remain in compact controls mode between sessions, but not in
full screen mode.

A couple notes:

1. To activate Compact Control Mode, or leave the same, you will need to
either use the bypass key (INSERT-b by default,) or change the Window-Eyes
Search hotkey (CTRL-SHIFT-f by default.)
2. Depending on your Browse Mode/Autoload settings, when leaving full-screen
mode, ESCAPE may place you in Browse Mode; If so, you will need to hit escape a
second time to return to Normal Viewing mode. Remember to hit CTRL-SHIFT-a to
leave Browse Mode before attempting to edit or navigate your document.

  HTH.

In Browse Mode, prior to V9, there was a hotkey which was D by default
and would take you to the next element that was different from the one
you were currently on. So for example, if you were on a long list of
links, you could quickly get past them by hitting the letter D. After
not being able to use this feature in version 9, I finally looked it up
in the browse mode under hotkeys and it's still defined in the list. The
problem is when you press it on a web page it says Not a valid key
press. What's going on with this hotkey?

Hi Richard,

I am using Windows 8.1, Firefox 35.01 and Window-Eyes 9. I have all screen
punctuation turned off (globally) and all keyboard punctuation turned on
(globally). When I get into Google Docs, the screen reader support mode
turns on automatically. If it doesn't, the hot key to toggle this feature is
Control-Alt-Z. Once it is enabled, I am hearing punctuation as I type and
when I cursor by character. When I navigate to a line of text with Up or
Down Arrow, Window-Eyes does not announce the punctuation and honors my
screen punctuation settings. Not sure why you are getting the results you
are but wanted to let you know I cannot duplicate the issue with the
settings and environment listed above. I am also able to turn Browse Mode
on manually with Control-Shift-A and then turn it off again without issue.
For me, the insertion point stays in the document regardless of the state of
Browse Mode and as soon as Browse Mode is turned off, I am able to begin
working in the document area again. On a side, note, there is a Enable
Braille support option under the settings pull down in the Accessibility
menu of the Google Docs toolbar (Alt-Shift-A). If I turn this option on, I
get the best possible experience in speech tool. I hope you find this info
helpful.

FW: Window-Eyes 9 and Google Drive

2015-02-21 Thread Richard G Applegate via Talk
Okay, I think I have solved the punctuation issue, at least for the second
and third instance: One needs to turn the various punctuations on in the
Screen node of the Control Panel. I don't like this solution as I don't wish
to hear the punctuation spoken when I am reading by line, sentence etc.; I just
want to be able to hear the punctuation when I cursor across it. The speaking
of the punctuation when I type it is a keyboard punctuation issue.
As for the phantom space issue, this may be related to the way the insertion
point is reported, either by Window-Eyes or by Google Docs. Either way, it is
quite awkward.
I still have found no solution for re-enabling the editing of a document
after erroneously entering Browse mode.

properties option. Activate this option and tab over to the radio button that
asks whether you want to see the number of unread items or the total number of
items in the mailbox.

Can you do the same in outlook 2010?
I do wish that I could know how many messages were in a given folder.
Thanks
Shannon

Hi,
Try changing the view to IMAP messages! Thanks.

Rod,
In fact, I did shut Outlook down before executing that command.

Rebooting after executing that command didn't seem to make any difference,
either, at least not for telling me about numbers of messages.

Hi Louis,

So sorry, but I forgot to say that you must shut Outlook down first before
typing the command:

Outlook.exe /cleanviews

And pressing Enter.
Otherwise, you'll get multiple copies of Outlook running.
Anyway, if you do end up with multiple copies of Outlook running, just shut
them all down, type the command, press Enter, and you should be okay.

Good luck,

Rod

Hi Louis,

If you Hold down the left Windows key, and press R, you will call up the Run
dialog box.
If you were to then type the following command:

Outlook.exe /cleanviews

Making sure to type the punctuation just as I wrote it, this will restore
Outlook, thereby eliminating any customized views you may have done
intentionally or by mistake.
Perhaps this will solve the problem.

Hth,

Rod

I do hope someone can help me with this problem, as it is still going on
again today, without a break. I sent out the message below about this
yesterday, but nobody responded.
Louis Gosselin

Running Win-Eyes 8.4 on a Windows7 Desktop. Throughout all of this morning
now, whenever I attempt to learn how many messages are present in my in-box,
by pressing Ctrl-Insert-s, I'm hearing Filter Filter Applied connectivity
to your server and then something about synchronizing files. How long is
that process supposed to go on?
Can I do something to force the process to complete or stop or something, so
I can find out how many messages I have in my in-box currently? It's quite
commonplace to see this message, but usually it goes away after I've read
and deleted a number of messages. Not so today.
Thanks for any help.
Louis Gosselin

I'm assuming you wish for Window-Eyes to appear in the Notification area
instead of appearing on the Task Bar. If so, go to
Control-panel/General/Start-up options and tab until you find the radio button
for this option.
