RE: downgrading to window-eyes 9.1

2015-08-06 Thread Vaughan Dodd via Talk
Agree with all of this.

I do note that although File Explorer is sluggish, it is still faster for me
than with 8.1 or Seven (Windows) and I think we will see a flurry of updates
from Microsoft soon.

I do believe that support for Windows seven must diminish, and I encourage
Windows Seven users to perhaps wait a while but eventually upgrade. Going
back to Window-Eyes 9.1. really isn't sensible, as it locks those who do
down-grade into a legacy trap.

Chris,

I haven't had Windows 7 for a long time, but Windows 10 is much faster and
it is free to upgrade. I haven't found a program yet that would not run on
Windows 10. My only problem is that file explorer has a slow response for
some reason, Internet Explorer seems to be faster than in Windows 8.1 and it
doesn't seem to crash as much as it did in 8.1. If WE quits speaking I can
just hit the WE shortcut and speech is immediately back but that hasn't
happened much at all.

Well that's nice, but you guys have to remember that this whole thing
started because it's not running smoothly on a windows 7 machine. I'm
certain that Windows 10 is great, but it doesn't fit my situation
because I'm not running windows 10 yet. I don't plan to for a while
yet. Like I said i'm glad 9.2 is running great for you guys and, for
the most part it is here too. But for no known reason for me, at some
point it just quits speaking, and I've no idea what to do to tell
people what i'm doing to make it happen. I do believe it probably has
something to do with Window-eyes interaction with either Windows
explorer, or internet explorer because using those 2 things seems to
cause Window-eyes to stop speaking more frequently than anywhere else.
i've checked to make sure that all settings are updated, all apps and
set files are updated, windows update is up to date with all updates
possible...so i've done everything i can think of, outside of going
back to 9.0 which I really would not like to do if I can help it.

Hope this helps clarify things. I really thought my first message on
the issue was clear enough, but I guess not.

Re: downgrading to window-eyes 9.1

2015-08-04 Thread Keith Hinton via Talk
There is separate from Window-Eyes for Office, or even the retail
version, a 60 day evaluation that one can install to test Window-Eyes.
And that is free of charge. After the 60 days, you'd need to reinstall
Windows again to repeat the process if you weren't sure, or possibly
get Window-Eyes for Office, or pay for Window-Eyes at full price.
Unless of course, you don't mind rebooting every 30 minutes after the
fact. So there you go. Also remember please that Window-Eyes is not
for everybody. No screen reader can be nor operating system choice for
that matter. In the future, I would recommend saving the version
installers. I have 9.1, 9.2,9.0, and 8.4, for example of the
Window-Eyes for Ofice installers at the time they they were
respectively available. Also, keep in mind that AISquared is not the
only company having you use current products. Serotek is this way as
well. If Freedom Scientific is for you, then maybe it is. Or possibly
NVDA, or even VoiceOver. The point is, Window-Eyes is a possibility.
And it is certainly not a requirement. I hope this helps. And Chris,
if you need one of htose Window-Eyes for Office installers as that's
all I have her, I can talk with you off list about htat. Widnow-Eyes
9.2 is the current release, so that's all you'll ever get automaticly.
Take advantage o saving fiels while you can while the releases are
production before they get replaced by new executables.
Regards,
Keith

Re: downgrading to window-eyes 9.1

2015-08-04 Thread Bob Tinney via Talk

Chris,

I haven't had Windows 7 for a long time, but Windows 10 is much faster
and it is free to upgrade. I haven't found a program yet that would not
run on Windows 10. My only problem is that file explorer has a slow
response for some reason, Internet Explorer seems to be faster than in
Windows 8.1 and it doesn't seem to crash as much as it did in 8.1. If
WE quits speaking I can just hit the WE shortcut and speech is
immediately back but that hasn't happened much at all.

cause Window-eyes to stop speaking more frequently than anywhere else.
i've checked to make sure that all settings are updated, all apps and
set files are updated, windows update is up to date with all updates

Hope this helps clarify things. I really thought my first message on

RE: downgrading to window-eyes 9.1

2015-08-04 Thread Chip Orange via Talk
If you have the paid version with support, why not call support and get help
with your issue? I, like Bob, am also finding 9.2 more stable and faster
than 9.1, and I think it's a better idea to solve the problem than to assume
the previous version was better.

Hello Nick

Maybe you missed my first email on this subject. At this moment I am
currently running Window-eyes 9.2 on this Windows 7 64-bit system. It
is unstable. The machine locks up for no particular reason...in fact
others have reported the issue too. I am not the only one who is having
the issue. I thought about downgrading to Window-eyes 9.1, but I do
not currently have an upgrade file available to me.
I could certainly go back to 9.0 but I don't like being 3 versions
behind. This will definitely teach me to keep a backup of the upgrade
files.

I'm a bit confused. If you have a hard copy of the previous version,
can't you simply reinstall it? Also is there a demo one can install,
to see if he (she) is not sure he'll like the upgrade?

Hi I am sorry if I go on a rant here. You see this is my gripe with
GW Micro. they never offer older versions. As with any other company
they like you to be on the latest and greatest and stick with that
unless you have an older version somewhere from a backup. Gw Micro
does not offer older versions, never did and probably never will. Now
with FS and NVaccess, they both provide older versions of their
screen readers on their website. This is good as people like you can
downgrade should they wish. But no Gw Micro won't do that; they
expect you to be on the latest and greatest. Again sorry if this
comes out as a rant and am sorry to be harsh. I'm trying not to bash
anyone either. I'm just offering my £0.02 worth. Good luck on getting
your copy of 9.1 because you will need it.

 Hi guys

After today, I think it might be a wise idea to downgrade to
 Window-eyes
9.1. Here's the issue though. I seem to have misplaced my 9.1 upgrade
file. I do have a9.0 cd. Is there any way of getting ahold of a 9.1
upgrade file? I can certainly uninstall and re-install Window-eyes,
 but
I'd like to go back to 9.1. You'll have to forgive me if this seems
obvious but I've never had to do this sort of thing before. This is the
first time i've ever had an issue like this.
 Thanks, guys.

Re: downgrading to window-eyes 9.1

2015-08-03 Thread via Talk
I think I downloaded that upgrade file from the GW Micro site, but it
may no longer be available now that 9.2 is here.

I doubt if you could even by a replacement disc for $25, and have it be
9.1. You might try, but if they have 9.2 discs, they won't sell you an
older version.

I attempted to go back to 6.1, a few years ago, when I think it was
version 7 was rather buggy, or was that 8?And GW Micro would not
sell me a replacement for the older 6.1.

I take it 9.2 is not working well for you? Worse than 9.1?I was
just considering ordering a 9.2 disc, or at least buying the upgrade.
Are you suggesting that I should wait a bit further, maybe for a 9.3?

I am not rushing into downloading Win 10, so no need to be forced to use
9.2.
