Does the problem happen with rendering or only when you build
something from the geofabrik files?

Until recently there wasn't a perfect replication method that didn't
miss changes, I'm not sure if geofabrik have switched so what might be
happening is they pull down the whole planet file every couple of
weeks to catch up on missed changes.

Tiles being rendered is only part of the story.

I'm aware of caching at my end, and believe I've eliminated that as the
sole cause.

Let's say I add a road, upload the data, and then quickly go back and
reclassify it. A week later, I will download
http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/australia-oceania.osm.bz2 and mkgmap it
into a routable Garmin map. Often that road simply doesn't appear on
the Garmin, and won't appear for many more weekly downloads.

This has happened to me so many times that I've come to think there's a
pattern emerging.

All I do to update the tiles quicker is get the permalink of the current view,
load the permalink in the browser window, then do a deep refresh (usually
shift+F5), which will then load the page like you have never visited it before
(does not use the cache). Hope that helps.

Are you talking about tiles being rendered? If that's the case you
just need to clear your browser cache.

Maybe this has been covered, but I haven't noticed it in discussion.

I've found that re-editing OSM changes before they get time to permeate
through the system often seems to stop them dead in their tracks.

If I make changes to a particular area, they're usually rendered within
a few minutes or hours. But if I go back quickly and change something,
it might take weeks or months for any of the changes to render.

Hopefully I have done this successfully this time. I'll wait a few
weeks and see if the routing is updated at Cloudmade.

Select the node where you want to split the way, if the node is on more than
one way (ie intersection) then you have to select the way as well.

Then Tools-->Split Way or hit P

Then remove the relation from the section where it's not required.

I can't seem to find out where I can do this in the JOSM interface?
All the selection options just give me the entire Pacific Highway (37
nodes) selection or the entire Military Road selection.

OK, I think I've fixed all this, and other errors that cropped up in
the validator at the time.

There is also the issue here that military road is a dual carriage way, even
though a it's only a fence and medium strip dividing the two.

If you changed Military Road to a dual carriage road and then just connect the
side roads as appropriate then there is no need for relations except possibly
like at Rangers Road where there is time restriction.

Actually I just ran the JOSM validator across these and there is a painting
problem.

The via nodes are incorrect.

I suggest updating JOSM and add the validator plugin then see what it has to
say to correct the problem.

This may just be a lack of being updated by Roadee and/or cloudmade.

Looks correct to me, although I would make the relations only applicable for
the section from the last intersection to the intersection where the
restriction occurs.

Delete the least appropriate way and reconnect the roads. Sorry I don't know
of any easy fix.

[talk-au] Help with a couple of things

2009-11-10 Thread Jonathan Trott
Hi everyone.

I'm pretty new to the openstreetmap project and have been lurking on
this list for a while. I'm mainly using openstreetmap via Roadee on my
iPhone and in various apps that use the data.
My primary driver for editing the maps is to fix the routing problems
that I see when using Roadee. These are mostly right turn restrictions
and one way road issues.
I think I have done the right thing when setting the no_right_turn
restriction using JOSM 2186 but I have waited over a month without
seeing updated results using Roadee or on the cloudmade.com website.
Can someone check my work and see if I am doing anything wrong?

The two turns that I have to pass almost every day are the following:
Point 31395304 (Holt Avenue and Military Road in Cremorne, NSW) should
be no right turn both directions here.
Point 13877590 (Christie Street and Pacific Highway in St Leonards.
NSW) should be no right turn both directions here also.

Another problem I just recently discovered is Robsons Rd, Keiraville,
NSW is duplicated. One with 17 nodes and one with 4. What's the best
way to clean this up as there are roads that are joined to one and not
the other.
I'm hoping there is an easy way to fix this?

Thanks,
JT
