Bonjour OSMers! Canvec.osm product conversion is still running. However, we have found some problems in the database with the hydrographic network (at least in Ontario) where there are nodes every meter! We are working to circumscribe the problem and the concerned files will be reprocessed. If you ever find some files having this problem, please do not hesitate to contact me. In the meantime... I've been asked some questions about the coastline - Thanks to David Groom. Digging further on the answers I provided, I've found that it is now possible to differentiate between a coastline and a waterbody for BC and most of the Nunavut. I've adjusted the process and will provide real Osm coastline when available. Furthermore... Our database is ready to manage maxspeed and oneway information. As soon the provinces provide the information, the Canvec.osm product will have it. Let me know if you find unexpected problems in the data. [Talk-ca] Canvec.osm Product - Running!
Bonjour OSMers! Canvec.osm product conversion is running since 08:30 - Sherbrooke time. It is based on Canvec Release 10. All files will be reprocessed. From south to north, east to west, except for a few priorities. What is new: * There is no more Here be Dragons areas in the Canvec product! NRCan completed mapping Canada at 50K scale about 2 months ago. Almost 100 years after Canada started mapping at this scale (approximately!-) * Municipal Boundaries for SK,MB,NB,YT,NT and NU - linear - are available Changes from previous release: * Water definition (natural=water) now fits the Osm coastline definition (high water level). * Format of the ZippedOsm.txt in ftp site has changed. http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/CanVec#CanVec_10http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/CanVec Thanks to those who are maintaining this wiki page :-) Let me know if you find unexpected problems in the data. Hi Robert, It depends on you !-) If you are not concerned by updates in Quebec and in Manitoba, and if you like to remove natural=land areas manually, and convert runway to apron before capturing corresponding runway and taxiway, then I guess you should resume your imports. You can also check the status of the conversion for your area using the following link ftp://ftp2.cits.rncan.gc.ca/osm/pub/ZippedOsm.txt instead of waiting that the entire country is finished! Bonjour Adam and all, The listing of all zipped .osm files is now available on ftp site. The listing is updated each time a new .zip file gets available. Re: [Talk-ca] Canvec.osm Product - Running!
For the next release, would it be possible to get: 1. A text file (stored on the ftp) that lists all the quadtree-tiles output. Some people might want to write scripts that can do work based on available CanVec osm files, but it would help to know how much subdividing occurred. Currently, we must download the zip file to determine if 092H04.0.1.2 exists or if the tiling stopped at 092H04.0.1. 2. An RSS or Atom feed of the tiles that have been processed. Not as useful as (1), but some people might be interested in knowing the latest without searching around the ftp. This would be most useful when already processed tiles get re-processed, or when tiles get processed in a different order (such as 052A06). Thanks for the great releases! Awesome, does this mean we are going to see a more complete map in SK? I must apologize as I haven't been paying as much attention to the list of late. I tried to work with some of the data in some months ago in JOSM for learning purposes with the eventual goal of helping with the import. I didn't really get anywhere with it. I think i managed to create a black hole in JOSM. I assume there will still need to be a lot of editing to connect up the existing data with the new data once the import is done as well as road name/type corrections? Sorry I am obviously a bit of a noob still and am only now interested when I hear the province that I live in mentioned. I've been poking at the NTS tiles around Edmonton, and they aren't lining up with the NTS tile sheet numbers that I am familiar with. I made a cool wiki page about Canada WMS layers http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Toporama_WMS and this is the JOSM link, just right-click and change resolution when you have the WMS layer running, you'll see all the tile #s http://wms.ess-ws.nrcan.gc.ca/wms/indexcouverture_cantopo?LAYERS=background%2Creference%2Ccoverage%2Cgrid%2Cboundaries%2CplacenameVERSION=1.1.0FORMAT=image/pngSERVICE=WMSREQUEST=GetMapSTYLES=EXCEPTIONS=application%2Fvnd.ogc.se_inimageTRANSPARENT=TRUE; and Edmonton is 083H12 http://www.geobase.ca/geobase/en/browse.do?produit=cdeddecoupage=50kmap=083H (looking at the geobase map) ftp://ftp2.cits.rncan.gc.ca/osm/pub/083/H/ ftp://ftp2.cits.rncan.gc.ca/osm/pub/083/H/083H12.zip and it would be 083H12.3.3.2.osm (which is just to the west of Edmonton (downtown) ftp://ftp2.cits.rncan.gc.ca/osm/pub/083/H/083H11.zip and 083H11.0.0.1.osm (which looks to be the downtown core) ... it has the Central Station the City hall... so i think thats the downtown area. Ya... it was a little hard to find. As there is lots of tiles in the region. Some of the stuff is out-dated especially in the city. .. as there's lots of construction. (i think) So ya.. it'll take time to work in. I'd recommend starting in the area you know and work outwards. As others in the region will most probably be starting to help out. Looking at the data, it looks like it will be a manual copy/paste of the house numbers/addresses. So starting in 1 corner, getting all the features needed in and going city-block by city-block. And uploading bits at a time. That way, when someone else wants to help out, you can easily share where you've left off, and others can continue on. Feel free jump on the #OSM-Ca irc chat, the more people online, the better chance someone will be able to help out :) Cheers, Sam James VE6SRV ___ Talk-ca mailing list Talk-ca@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ca ___ Talk-ca mailing list Talk-ca@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ca

Bonjour Adams, Attempting to estimate how many days until your area gets uploaded? Common! Very difficult to predict, and too soon to do that... - I can tell you that it is a 24h/7days process. - I can tell you, from my experience, that you never know when it is finished until it's finished! But, let supposed everything keeps going right, it should be finished in two month. The process is ordered using the file name (NTS) first 3 digit in a way that files are roughly processed from South to North and East to West. By the way, I mentioned in an earlier email that files can be prioritise - if you ask for :-) Regards, Daniel From: Adam Dunn [mailto:dunna...@gmail.com] Sent: 5 juillet 2010 15:14 To: Bégin, Daniel Cc: Talk-CA OpenStreetMap Subject: Re: [Talk-ca] Canvec.osm Product - Running!
