Aggregation then takes care of itself. So, do I understand this correctly: On small zoom levels you want to render all tracks with track=1ofX and all with track=YofX with Y!=1 don't get rendered. It is the responsibility of the mapper to decide which of several tracks gets to be number one, because this is the only one rendered (presumably a middle one, if available). Of course you still have to render all tracks without this tag, because you don't know how they hang together. I guess this could work for rendering. There'll probably be some oddities where different railways join, but for small enough zoom levels one can't see that. Mappers would need some guidance on how to tag railway yards, larger stations etc. so that it comes out right. If a renderer makes a distinction between tracks=1 and tracks=2, and we've marked two separate adjacent ways with tracks=1, then we'll just end up with two single tracks on top of each other at medium zooms. My thought is that we either make it tracks=1of2 or have a separate track_grouping=1of2. Anyone else have a better idea? I've put a comment to this effect on the multiple_tracks proposal, but this list doesn't see much traffic, so I thought I'd raise it here. Richard What if the adjacent tracks are physically 20m away, or 30m or 40m away, but they are still part of the same rapid transit or freight lines? Does tracks=1of2 imply that they must be close enough to overlap at a given zoom level? Honestly, I think the real problem with your proposal is you talk of zoom levels like they are a definite thing. There are more renders then just mapnik, and exactly what corresponds to 'medium' zoom seems like you're putting renderer details into the data. -- Joseph Booker signature.asc Description: PGP signature ___ Talk-transit mailing list Talk-transit@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-transit

Then reset the timestamps to epoch, rather than randomising them which seems to be a bit crude and doesn't gain much. For those of you that claim you never speed, what about those pesky school zones without flashing lights that you can't tell the times they are in force until you are virtually on top of them and have to sit and think about if the time actually applies at this point in time and slamming on your breaks if it does to prevent yourself from going in excess of the speed limit. Even if you do reset the timestamps it may be possible for the police to find out when you went through the school zone even if the clock on your dash board says the school zone speed doesn't apply because it's inaccurately set. Darrin Smith wrote: If one was really trying to hunt someone down with OSM, a carefull study of their edit history would most likely reveal information about their location anyway. Yes, but long term I can see people using openstreetmap data just for navigation, and having their traces would be very useful for traffic modelling purposes to improve the routing algorithms. In this case the only real information OSM has on these people are their traces, so we would need some sort of protection in place if they are worried about this sort of thing. One solution might be to always drop the last and first N minutes, kilometres, turns, etc. from every journey, where N is a random number chosen uniformly from a fairly wide range (between 5 and 10 minutes). This would ensure that most of the travelling information is kept, but no information about start points and destinations are. These end points would be less likely to be useful for road-speed modelling anyway. Also, does everyone here realise that private traces still show up for everyone in JOSM/Potlatch/etc. (without any timestamp or user information)? It just means that the files are not visible in your traces area on the website. Ie. the gps points themselves are still publically accessible through the API, you just can't tell who made them or at what time they were made. - David -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Hi-all-...-tp24072661p24134109.html Sent from the OpenStreetMap - Australian Talk mailing list archive at Nabble.com.

Was für Details?

Manchmal muss man selbst 300m Dorfstraße in beispielsweise 9 Teile zerhacken, wenn man alles berücksichtigen will.

My big thing is to collect all the often wonderful local names into OSM to help preserve usage. I am easy though if other folks differ. When I started checking all the moors around where I grew up I found that many look just like ordinary farmland and must have done so since about the eighteenth century. The names in NPE appear to more accurately reflect assigned areas for each parish to graze their sheep rather than moorland per se. Rombalds Moor for example, is made up of Ilkley Moor, a little unusual in being mostly for hunting rather than sheep farming, is definitely moorland, and then Baildon Moor, Hawksworth Moor, Addingham Moor, Steeton Moor, ... some of which are classic moorland and some grassy fields. Also in the areas around Yorkshire cities, areas can often be semi-built up but still keep the name such and such moor. Re: [Talk-us] National Atlas
Most US Government-sourced data is essentially public domain (actually a slight variant sometimes called government domain). All boundary data you find on National Atlas and The National Map (as well as seamless.usgs.gov) are completely free for just about any use except terrorism. ;) All the Census TIGER data falls under the same license as does all Landsat (a fairly recent return from a commercial license), NAIP, and more recent flyovers like the 133 Most Populated Places 1-foot color imagery. The only caveat is that National Atlas, The National Map, and Seamless put a cap on daily download size. This cap isn't a big deal for vector data - like your boundaries. But it's a real burden when trying to pull raster imagery, like Landsat or DRGs (scanned topo sheets). With the 1-foot Most Populated Places imagery, you'll hit your limit in about a quarter square mile of coverage. Maybe I can track down the right folks to write an official statement for the OSM wiki. -Eric -=--=---===---=--=-=--=---==---=--=-=- Eric B. Re: [Talk-us] National Atlas
I know that for the National Park boundaries the national atlas data is much worse than park specific data. I would suspect that to be the case for national forest boundaries as well on the National Atlas. As Eric said, most government data is alright to use. I found the Forest service site for region 3 [1] and I tossed the admin boundaries and and the wilderness boundaries into Arc and compared that data with the national atlas forest boundaries data. I can confirm the national atlas data has much less detail than the FS data. The forest service data is also unambiguous in terms of copyright and is usable on OSM. But what you gain in resolution you also lose in terms of import speed. Also, check out the National Forest Service data on the wiki and add your project to it [2]. Re: [Talk-us] National Atlas
OK, I have the data in JOSM in the WGS84 projection as a GPX file. I converted the GPX layer to a data layer. I then zoomed in to one small distinct piece and selected all the nodes. Next I went to the menu and choose Forest and entered a name for this piece (Coronado National Forest). However the area wasn't shaded. Is this the right way to do it?
