Probably no harm but if you were a trucking company looking to deliver
goods to an address was only accessible via a roundabout, you might want to
make sure the truck could transverse the roundabout. The roundabout in my
example has a small diameter which could preclude longer trailers from
using if the center was impassable. To get to the businesses would mean
driving 5 miles south on the interstate before heading back on the frontage
road.

I think the document that went with this roundabout is pretty clear that it
is intended as a mini-roundabout, even with the raised apron. The weather
is pretty crummy right now or I'd get some pictures.

Right, that's normal usage, but an actual mini roundabout is literally just
painted on the ground, not a raised apron.

Hence the distinction on the mini roundabout I mentioned at the start of
the thread versus Clifford's example, based on prevalent global usage and
the wiki documentation.

similarly, if there is an island, it is better to map a circle way, not
just a node with turning_circle - the latter should be used only for
"full" circles without any objects in the middle.

There is also turning loop for turning circles containing islands -

I have seen a number in US with crown height low enough that emergency
vehicle can go right over and trailers can cheat up.

For USAn usage, even if they are eligible for tagging as a mini roundabout
node, that may be confusing. Routing of "third right on roundabout" works
... "Left at intersection" could be dangerous advice.

Does it do harm to treat a mini as a regular roundabout in the land that
isn't even doing big roundabouts right yet?

The roads leading up to the roundabout are either 25 or 35MPH streets. If
there are trucks, they are likely coming from the 25MPH roads. I believe
the intersection is marked 20MPH caution sign.

I'll take a picture of if from street level, after the snow melts.
