Disable the top level, then enable the few languages you want. That's

I'll agree with MUA, it's most likely a misbehaving sent filter. Try
disabling all your sent filters and see what happens. If the problem
goes away, enable them one by one to find out which one (if any) is
causing the problem.

If you cannot disable them or if that doesn't help, try to delete all
your filters by renaming the .srb and .srx files (not deleting, you want
to be able to get them back, right?).

And then come back with another report.

Why I'm leaving The Bat

2004-09-02 Thread Costas Papadopoulos
Hello,

In the last few days I have been reading most of the postings made
here about the decision to release version 3 of The Bat.

I count myself among those who felt disappointed and frustrated about
this decision. I agree with The Bat users who feel that comparatively
little work is done to fix bugs while program development moves
continuously to new features and functions (and bugs).

Wisely by RITLabs, the cost of moving from version 2.x to version 3
was not set at a too high an amount for beta testers. Personally, I
shall most likely purchase the license for version 3. Nevertheless, I
don't plan to use The Bat for a while.

I don't have many demands or complicated requirements as a mail client
user. I feel, therefore, rather tired acting as a beta tester for The
Bat. One may argue, why I don't I stick to the release version and
leave the beta testing to those that have the stamina to do it? In
this particular case, I think that version 3 was released too soon.
Some rather significant bugs have already been reported. It is better
for me to move to another email client and return to The Bat after
some basic problems are solved.

That is why I shall go back to using Pegasus Mail, a program that I
used to use for many years.

G what OS is used, or what mail format they use, which have problems with TB!,
G and what those problems are, which you were kind enough to indicate.

...snip

I use UW-IMAP with mbx... That is, all messages are stored in a single
file, which is seen by the client as a selectable folder containing
messages. Physical folders that contain these files should be
non-selectable.

For instance, the default setting on my system (ClarkConnect 2.2) is as
follows:

/var/mail/user-id
  Inbox

/home/user-id/
  .mailboxlist
  /home/user-id/mail/
Sent
Drafts
Outbox
Trash

mail/ should non-selectable. Moreover, you cannot see this folder using
Squirrelmail (albeit there may be an option to view these folders) and
in Thunderbird the folder is visible (grey) but non-selectable.

G Try setting the Root folder in IMAP options to
G either INBOX or INBOX/ or INBOX. see what happens..

This is set to /home/user-id/ but it makes little difference either way.

One thing I have noticed is that TB! sometimes takes an inordinate
amount of time to refresh the folder list and after this is done _all_
folders are grey with the exception of Inbox, (Sent and Outbox*.) They
only return to black after a restart or if I Abort all in the CC.
However, as soon as another folder is selected all folders not processed
return to grey.

Also, TB! sometimes seems to get bogged down executing a command (e.g.
scanning a folder) with loads of other commands queued up... then
it's time for a restart (or frequent use of Abort all.)

Overall the latest build is a very good IMAP experience. However, I do
use Procmail for filtering now.

*These are local folders. I use a local Sent Mail folder and then
automatically copy messages to the server's Sent folder.

ANV caused plugin to stuck.

After initially installing TB v3.0, my system would hang in the middle
of mail polling. This would be for quantities from 150-250 messages.
It took awhile for me to figure out that BayesIt seemed to be the
cause. Once I removed it, the mail polls completed.

I downloaded and installed the version above, hoping that stuck
meant the symptoms I was experiencing. Unfortunately, my mail poll
this morning (250 messages) hung. I removed BayesIt 0.6.01 and the
polling completed.

I did an experiment with the next batch of messages that hung. After 2
failed attempts with BayesIt, I installed BayesFilter. The polling
completed without any problems.

All of this occurs using a broadband connection so it isn't a line
quality problem.

Because polling works with BayesFilter, I tend to believe the problem
isn't with TB's plug-in support, but rather with the BayesIt plug-in
itself.

Has anyone else reported a similar problem?

 interface.

Im not seeing this it looks the same to me!

Same here, since I'm using a glyphs file and have disabled all

 03. New Condition: Address Book Contact
There is an 'Address Book contains/does not contain sender/...'
condition. Isn't this what you want?

No, I don't mean this. I want to have a condition:
address book contact is MAU
This should check, whether the message comes from mau (does the adress
book entry of mau contain the e-mail adresse of the message?) or not.
of course I could say:
sender contains [EMAIL PROTECTED]
But this is lot of work, if you have serveral E-Mail addresses:
sender contains [EMAIL PROTECTED]
or
sender contains [EMAIL PROTECTED]
or
...

and its work, if you have a new email address - especially if there
are several filters (VF or view modes) for this address book entry.

Did you get the point or should a try to explain (better) again?

Now, if we consider Cut = Copy + Delete
Feature request 17 (mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]) could
solve this ...

This is one of the many reasons why I strongly believe the Sorting
Office should have a fully operational CANCEL button to disregard any
changes made (no matter how many).
Added to my list ... mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I suggested this during beta testing.
MID?

Did I miss some feature request?

Seems that nobody cares, but I'll continue it anyway ...

18. Cancel button
The changes from opening NFS until now are NOT saved and NFS is
closed. Very useful I think ...

This is far from scientific, but as I watch my mail download, I can
see it before it gets removed. And I'm able to see the subject long
enough to know it's spam, but then it just disappears. Hope that
helps.

Ahh ... the watchful eye technique. Do you have any spam moving to
your junk folders or do they remain empty?

Well, like I said, unless I specifically mark something as SPAM, I
don't see anything go in the junk folder -- it just disappears
otherwise -- but I just set up the plugin about 2 days ago. I had
still been allowing Thunderbird to filter SPAM for me, since tb! SPAM
filter is clunky at best. It's a pain in the neck to mark mail as
junk (I want a toolbar button!) and I don't feel as though I should
have to mark mail as ham -- just assume it is unless I tell you
otherwise, like every other anti-SPAM system.
