 Up and running here

Sorry for threading this is the wrong place, but the 4.1.14.1 announcement
message disappeared.

4.1.14.1 crashes repeatedly on my computer. I think it occurs most often
when I right-click something, but not always. I am running Vista Ultimate.

I would have installed 4.1.14.2 but the only difference has to do with
delayed mail. Since most of my replies are late anyway, I'm not sure why
I'd want to make the situation worse ;-)

Same error, but it keeps churning out the error messages non-stop and I have

mentioned in the list of fixes. Sometimes it happens if I right-click on

at least since upgrading to 4.1.11.23

Strange mailbox behavior

2008-04-04 Thread Doug Higby
Hello ,

Can't say if this is related to the recent beta 4.0.20, but TheBat! has gotten
extremely
sluggish. When I click on a message in my inbox, I lose control of the mouse
for a
few seconds before I can open the message.

But worse yet, I just noticed that my changes to the message status are not
kept. If
I mark a message read, or I flag it, it goes back to Unread and unflagged the
minute
I leave the folder and come back. None of the unread messages can be marked
unread
either.

I ran maintenance on the folder and deleted a whole bunch of old messages, now
there
are about 1500 messages in this box. But none of this has changed the situation
and
no errors were detected.

This only happens in this one inbox, my other boxes are fine.

V Is this an IMAP account?

This is a POP3 account, and it is only the Inbox - Known that has this problem.
 The
normal Inbox is fine.

Mailbox passes integrity check and all other maintenance tasks.

I will try moving messages out, deleting it, and recreating it.

HTML table commands reversed

2008-02-11 Thread Doug Higby
Hello,

Nice work on v. 4, I love being able to see the images in my html mails.

The insert column on the left/right buttons work in the opposite manner when
working with an html table. If I hover over the button, it says insert
collumn on
the right, but inserts it on the left, and vice-versa. Also, the icons are
inconsistent in this manner because the light and dark squares work opposite for
inserting rows and columns.

Voyager exception processing errors

2007-06-27 Thread Doug Higby
Hello,

Something happened today and I am getting weird error messages. It
seems my virtual folders became real folders that were empty, and
parts of my main folder structure were duplicated with empty names,
further down in the directory tree.

I restored from a backup (made automatically only two hours
earlier!!!).

I performed maintenance on all the mail folders, but now am getting
these errors occasionally:

---
Windows - No Disk
---
Exception Processing Message c013 Parameters 75b6bf9c 4 75b6bf9c 75b6bf9c
---
Cancel Try Again Continue
---

I checked the memory stick for errors, but there were none.

Any suggestions?

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do a similar thing with

and? so what? was the drive formatted with NTFS or FAT? unlike FAT,
fragmented NTFS files do take extra structures to be read, thus slowing
the speed. not as much as with moving mechanical heads, but it might
somehow get noticeable. and NTFS fragmentation may take extra space too,
although it usually fits in the MFT.

The USB flash drive referred to was formatted as FAT, and after
defragmentation gave a huge speed increase, and shut down a lot
faster. Compressing the files on exit led to rewriting them every
time, which led to very bad defragmentation. For the technical
reason, it has to do with either the fact that sequential reads are
faster than random reads on flash drives, or the fact that many more
i/o operations were needed to read the fragmented data. Maybe the
difference wouldn't have been as noticeable if it had been formatted
as FAT32.

How many Voyager lives did you use up in this test? It seems that
every time I reformat my drive, I have to reactivate the key. I think
I am down to one or two activations left, so I am not eager to procede
with the reformat to NTFS, even though I've been wanting to do this

 1. Extremely large delay when sending emails, the bat connects to

Your problems could be related to a poor DNS server. If it is
standard pop3 and smtp, you could try using the tcpip address instead
of mail.domain.com, or you could set your computer to use the opendns
DNS servers (just Google OpenDNS).

If using wireless, it could be a problem with your wireless protocol,
where it fades in and out of connection.

Or, it could be your email host that is overworked and slow to
respond.

What is your server timeout set to in account properties under
Transport ?

 2. I leave the bat on all day, and retrieve new messages every 5
minutes, After running the bat for an hour or so it locks up when
downloading messages, it will just sit there with the last message
being downloaded and will never finish.

I've had this behaviour too with poor internet connections and a dozen
people trying to connect on a wireless connection. If you tell us
that Outlook Express races through sending and receiving, then there
may be reason to suspect that The Bat! is at fault.

I dont understand, how _measuring_ translates into increased
performance (maybe my English). You meant _optimize_ instead of
 _measure_?

Sorry, I skipped a step. I have a number of USB memory sticks. Some
seemed slow, and others were faster. When I found the tool to measure
performance, I could identify the one that had the best performance
and I switched Voyager to that for a definite performance increase.

Even though my lists settings say to receive a copy of my own
messages, they don't appear in the thread. At least I know they are
going out, though.

I totally agree with you Vili. Also, flash drives perform much faster
on Win2K than XP. Often a factor of 2 or 3 to 1. The difference in
performance of USB hard drives is much closer between the 2 OSs and I
am sure it is related to the performance of the hard drive as opposed
to the performance of USB flash drives.

Also, using an external hard drive is 2-3 times safer regarding lost
data during a power failure simply because of performance.

It would be nice to have some hard facts to support the claims being
made in this thread. I would suggest using HD Tune 2.53, a freeware
utility to benchmark the hard drive vs the memory stick. I use it to
measure my memory stick's performance, which translates immediately
into increased performance in The Bat!

Also, this is my third post to this thread. They don't bounce, they
just tend to disappear. Any ideas?

In my experience, every USB memory stick is different. The one I am

Shutdown dialog

2007-04-30 Thread Doug Higby
Hello developers of TheBat!

I want to thank you first of all for the new shutdown dialog box that
lists the active processes. It is much clearer and more informative
than the old dialog.

Now, with the current dialog, there is one point to clarify:

OK, Later, or Cancel

If I say OK, it will attempt to close in 60 seconds, or whatever I
delay I set.

If I say Later, what would it do? Attempt to shut down at some
unknown point in the future?

If I say Cancel, it will exit the dialog and not attempt to shutdown.

So, it isn't clear to me what Later means in this context.
