Yes, postponed sending has become largely a crapshoot... almost useless and

Hi George,

I am glad that the process you described works for you... even if the need
to "press Enter" is a bit unusual, given that the red Delete button never
changes to a green Check button (as happens for other fields). But...

I was not commenting on or questioning the "look of it". In terms of
appearance, the new address book is adequate... arguably more attractive
than the previous one. My concern was purely in respect to functionality.
In that respect, this new address book is... well, let's just say,
unfriendly (although other more spicy adjectives do spring to mind).😀

Anyway, as you feel this topic regarding the address book (a basic feature
of any email client) is inappropriate for the Beta forum, let's not waste
any more time on the subject. Either Ritlabs will improve the new address
book or it won't. But perhaps until such time that the new address book
actually works as it should (for everybody) - in other words, users don't
end up wasting a lot of time trying to do basic things - it might be a good
idea to let the app default to the old address book and let the new one be
optional for testing. Just my opinion... but thanks for trying to help with
my issue.

With all due respect, George, have you actually tried doing that? I have
tried it on 2 different computers, and clicking that green Plus icon simply
doesn't work. FWIW, if you want an even more complex task, try re-ordering

Hi all,

Could someone explain to me how to add an email address to an existing

So what's new?

2022-06-05 Thread Jay Walker
Hi all,

Just a bit of feedback...Probably it's just me, but over the last 5 major
versions (or thereabouts) I haven't seen much significant change in TB. And
that is really fine with me, because the modest improvements that have been
made were (for me) quite necessary. And, no question about it, TB is still
my preferred email client. It just works, and I like that. But, sad to say,
the implementation of new "features" generally seems somewhat lackadaisical.

For example OAUTH was needed; and, yes, it does work. But with probably no
more than a single additional line of code I could have been spared several
days of hassle and hair-pulling. Was it not easy to set "@gmail.com" as a
default when only a username is given without the "@gmail.com"... something
that always worked quite well for regular authentication? Or if that was
not possible, could I not have received some warning that a username
without the "@" string is unacceptable?

As for this 10.x series, the only thing that jumps out at me is a new icon
that seems to have only been partially implemented. If there is going to be
a new icon for the TB exe, then should there not also be a new flapping-bat
icon when there is unread mail? And how difficult would that be to create?
Why do we still see the same old flapping bat against the former bright
yellow... the same old flapping bat from numerous, previous versions?
Frankly, I was good with the old TB icon. And, though I am not much
enamored with the TB10 icon, I could learn to like it if it did not grate
on my nerves seeing its form morph into the old bat.

As I prefer not to set a default mailto address, I always get a list of
possible accounts to use (which is most convenient for me). Long ago that
list of accounts mirrored the order in my account tree (which was fine),
but now it is not in that order (for reasons I don't know). In any event,
it is the list of accounts in the "Select the Account" dialog box that I
want to re-order. But I find no way to do that.

Thanks, Thomas. This was the second time I asked what for me was an

sorted out now that I discovered and corrected the somewhat simple but
unexpected source of the problem. I anticipate that TB will now continue to
work with Gmail for me even after May 30. But the other problem remains...
has never been sorted out. This has to do with the list of accounts (I have
many) that comes up when right-clicking a file and using Send to: The Bat!.
I would really like to be able to re-order that list, because the accounts
I generally use for that purpose are now located toward the end of the list
rather than the top of it. But perhaps I am alone in having this problem or

I know everyone has probably heard this many times and figured it all out.
But I'm not finding the solution, and I am stumped for days.

Until now I've used Gmail with "less secure apps", and that worked fine for
me. Now, under the gun so to speak, I have disabled "less secure apps" and
set up OAUTH authentication. And this works fine for me when checking my
mail (POP3). But, try what I may, I cannot send mail via SMTP. My current
settings are:

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Connection: Secure to Dedicated port (TLS) (have also tried Regular and
StartTLS)
Port: 465
Authentication: Tried them all, but none seem to work

I keep getting error messages like: WantAuthError or warnings about "no
compatible authentication mechanisms detected".

Sorry to trouble you all... I know the focus is on TB10... but I could
really use some help here. What am I doing wrong or not doing right?

Thanks for the link. It is very helpful. Would have been easier to find if

It seems that they probably only work with MicroEd. Perhaps those

that noise is when I press Alt+L or C or R? Maybe someone would want that?
Or

Hi all,

For some time I have noticed that every time I use Alt-L in MicroEd to

expected, but the sound suggests there is a problem of some sort... and it
is just irritating to hear each time. Can that sound be disabled inside TB?
Is there a setting/preference to accomplish that? (And, by the way, where
does one find a list of current keyboard commands for MicroEd?)

Switching to OAUTH

2019-12-16 Thread Jay Walker
Hi all,

Sorry, but I have not been testing TB9. But I do have a problem with TB8
that seems to persist in TB9. Does anyone have a step-by-step process for
switching from access to Gmail over POP3 regular authentication to Gmail
with OAUTH authentication? When I make the switch under Transport option to
OAUTH (using Web Browser), all seems to go well up to the point where I
need to confirm that I will allow TB to access the account. At that point
the Allow button in the TB browser is grayed out. Clicking it does not
work. To make matters worse, when I revert to regular authentication, Gmail
responds with "-ERR [AUTH] Username and password not accepted". Is this a
bug, or am I just doing it wrong?

Much thanks for any help.

Thanks very much for that information. I had a look at my Address Book, and
it seems that all of my Address Book entries have the setting to
"Automatically add secondary addresses to the [BCC] field". I don't know if
this is a setting that I ever consciously made. I don't think so. But it is
a fact that the secondary (sometimes obsolete) addresses did get added to

I don't understand why #0001540 was considered a problem, but I find the
new behavior so annoying that I have reverted to 8.6.0.2.

The problem for me is that I have multiple email addresses, and so do many
of the people I correspond with. Every time I reply to an email in 8.6.0.3,
TB digs up all of those other email addresses and adds them to the
recipient list. This unwanted behavior overrides my templates and results
in several copies of the same email going out to my recipients as well as
copies of the same email coming back to me (at the very least a waste of
bandwidth). The earlier process was direct and discrete... only the one,
intended recipient email account received my reply; and my reply was
automatically stored in the appropriate Sent folder of TB.

Good suggestion, NV. It might have solved the problem for some persons.

Actually I had already done everything you mention except deleting the

Fortunately, I managed to solve the problem - quite unexpectedly - by:

Ian, thank for your help. This much I understand. (1) The number in

In this case, the (1) is not bold. But I have no idea where the

2010-07-17 Thread Jay Walker
Okay, while we are waiting for a new version of TB to talk about,
maybe someone can answer a small question for me.

In my list of folders I see the total for my inbox is 12(1). My
question is what does the "(1)" mean? If I delete all of the messages
in my inbox, then the total appears as "0(1)". 1 what? My Inbox has no
subfolders that I am aware of.

Going back in time... Lately I am getting messages that do not give me
green text but rather an unreadable yellowish text. Is there any
setting where one can specify a simple white font color for all
messages on the mail ticker?

Okay, but so what? All I said is that Outlook displays the HTML that I

Feli, if you have a better benchmark/standard than Outlook, I am all

Outlook.

No argument there... except I don't think that either you or Ritlabs
earned a QED for that statement. As I see it, the fact that change is
a constant in nature merely supports my position that Ritlabs should
upgrade what is still only a somewhat primitive handling of HTML in
TB.

Re: Did I miss the funeral?

2010-06-12 Thread Jay Walker
It seems to me that there is no argument that the HTML handling of TB
has great scope for improvement. On this thread alone, several persons
have reported problems, and the most that anyone has said about TB
HTML handling is that it is "sufficient" (for him). No one has said
that the handling of HTML is "good", much less "great".

Look, I receive electronic plane tickets that I even hesitate to read
in TB. I certainly would never print them from TB. Yes, there is a
workaround. I can open them in my Web browser and then read them and
print them from there. But when I get those same plane tickets on my
WinMo phone, they look much better in Outlook. It's not just missing
embedded graphics here. Font sizes and font weights are distorted in
TB. Table borders get lost in TB. Graphics and hypertext that are
hidden in the browser appear as empty boxes and indecipherable symbols
in TB.

So I think we can agree to disagree on the amount of HTML support that
is required by TB. But, as I see it, HTML-based email is a fact of
life. Everyone gets some. And TB could provide a lot better support
for HTML. Yes, I know that this has been discussed many times over the
years. I know - and respect - the preference of this community for
plain-text email. I share that preference. But I also recognize that,
my preference aside, I do receive important HTML mail. And I get
frustrated by the fact that TB leaves me confused and uncertain when
viewing HTML documents that I must rely on.

I have no idea what is MUA (make-up artist?), but "sufficient" is a
relative term. What is sufficient for you may be very insufficient for
others. Someone also suggested that HTML is not email and that we
should just open a message in Firefox if we want to see the HTML.
Perhaps that is "sufficient" for him/her. But, once again, it might
also be very insufficient for someone else. Personally, I rarely use
HTML; but when I do need it, then TB is a relatively poor tool for
both creating and viewing messages... in my opinion.

Hard to specify. But HTML in TB never looks nearly as good as it does
in other apps. And it always seems to be missing pieces of the
pages... links, graphics, or whatever. Maybe it's something in my
settings. But as I still prefer plain text, I never worried much

Carsten, you did not do anything wrong. For me also - on two computers
- the upgrade of the mail foder index files was buggy. Fortunately, it
is very easy thing to fix manually.

All that you have to do is to check ALL of the directories where your
mail is stored (typically in your program directory or somewhere under
Documents and Settings) and delete any old index files that you find.
Under OTFE, delete the EBI files (leaving only the EBN files if they
are there). Without OTFE, also delete the old index files (I forget
the extension just now), and leave the new index files. You can tell
the difference by the date on the file - the old index files will be
older. :)

That's it. The next time you launch TB, you will not get any warning
about old index files, and everything should run smoothly - at least
as smoothly as before.

I tried to installing 4.1.5 on two computers - one with OTFE and one
without OTFE. In both cases, I got the same problem as described here.
I cannot say whether this was fixed in 4.1.7; however, the solution is
quite easy, if a bit tedious. All that you have to do is to check ALL
of the directories where your mail is store (typically in your program

Thanks, but I don't think that this applies in my case. I have never
been prompted for a conversion.

So maybe the corrupted folders and lost messages issue I had with
4.0.38 was due to unusual and one-time factors. I'll try using the
4.0.38 TB exe again.

By the way, does anyone know if my clean-up process - basically,
getting rid of everything but the current EBB and EBI files in MailPwd
subfolders is legitimate? If so, then perhaps there should be a
utility that does this sort of thing automatically. I managed to
recover over well over 1Gb of space in that fashion. This makes any
space recovery that I could accomplish with the TB Message Base
Maintenance Centre seem almost trivial in comparison.

Thanks for the information and advice, Hendrik.

If I understand correctly, you are saying that I should have reverted
to the previous msi file rather than trying to install 4.0.38 - or
4.0.36 - over my 4.0.34.8 version.

But I don't see why that would be a problem. I think that the new
message base index format began after 4.0.34.8. Because I have not
beta tested after 4.0.34.8 - sorry, far too busy this last few months
- I have never used a version of TB that prompts me for any message
base conversion (or presumably does that without my knowledge).

Regarding the second question, I have deleted all of the files in each
MailPwd subfolder except the EBB and the EBI file. That brought the
size of the MailPwd folder down to a much more reasonable 660Mb, and I
seem to still have all of my messages and attachments.

Assuming that what I did to clean up my mail folders is okay, now the
only question is how to safely and successfully upgrade to 4.0.38.

Safe OTFE Upgrade and Cleanup?

2008-11-27 Thread Jay Walker
Hi,

I am using 4.034.8 OTFE. I tried to upgrade to 4.0.38 with the msi
downloaded from Ritlabs, but I lost messages and folders seemed to get
irreparably corrupted.

So I reverted to my stable 4.0.34.8 and restored from backup. But when
I look in my MailPwd folder, I see some subfolders with a large number
of files, many of which are probably backups and of no use. The size
of my current backup file with all messages and settings is 290Mb, but
the size of my MailPwd folder is 1.75Gb.

My two questions are:

o Is there a safe and sure way to upgrade to 4.0.38?

o Is there some way to clean up my mail folders to reduce that huge
1.85Gb size to something closer to the 290Mb of my backup file?

Sorry, Roland, I spoke too soon. The first time I tried to open TB, it
gave me the trial mode option, and I canceled out. Then I sent my
message from Gmail just assuming that I would be able to enter trial
mode and planning to do so. But when I tried to enter trial mode, I
received some sort of error and TB shut down. So, like you, I had to
revert to an earlier version.

At a guess, this problem could be connected with OTFE. In other words,
perhaps those running TB with OTFE have the issue, and those running
TB without OTFE do not have it.

In any event, my TB OTFE installation could not open the 4.0.24.13 beta.

Thomas, have you tried to drag a message from TB to a new message that
must be restored from the taskbar? I used to be able to do that in
3.99.29. In 4.0.20.2, I can only drag to a message that is not hidden.

I mentioned that this "smudge" occurs on the Master Password dialog
box. Peter confirmed that it occurs on the Token PIN dialog box. And
just now (working on another computer) I have found that it also
occurs on the Account Password dialog box (see attached graphic).

Paul, to the extent that the procedure is the same, the wording of the
procedure should also be the same. There is absolutely no value in
changing the word "enter" to "input" just to distinguish between a
master password and a token PIN, especially when the sentence already
specifies whether it is a master password or a token PIN.

The distinctions that concern you are best accomplished by simply
changing the title of the dialog box, the pertinent words (in this
case, "master password" versus "token PIN"), or both. Telling users
that they must "input" master passwords but "enter" token PINs is
pointless and potentially confusing (should both dialog boxes be
viewed and compared).

In any event, this is a small point - not a major issue for this forum
- and I will not argue it further. Feel free to have the last word. :)

Sorry, Paul, but I don't follow you. What is the different purpose? In
both cases, is not the purpose to gain access to TB and its stored
information? And are not the actions to "input" and "enter"
fundamentally the same - typing some confidential characters and then
pressing Enter or clicking OK?

The reason why I generally recommend using consistent language and
grammar *wherever possible* is mainly to avoid creating an impression
that there is a different purpose or different action if there is not.

By the way, Peter, your initial security window are not the same. Yours reads:

 The Bat! Start-up

Mine reads:

I am not clear on why there are these language changes: "Start-up"

Here's a weird one. This morning I was looking at the last message in

Then I went to my inbox, and the last 9/10 of the messages were

thebat.net - What's the big deal?

2008-03-23 Thread Jay Walker
Sorry, if this is OT, but I am talking about something that is
advertised on the Ritlabs Web site as "a new email service from
Ritlabs and Google" and "only for users of The Bat! v4".

As far as I can tell, thebat.net is a standard service offered by
Google to anyone with a registered domain for which one is ready to
point the domain's mail records (MX1) to the Google servers. I have
already done this for two different domains - one for email only and
the other for email, start page, and Web site.

My point is that anyone who knows about this free service is likely to
wonder why Ritlabs is promoting thebat.net on its Web page as if it is
something unique and involving a significant partnership between
Ritlabs and Google. Moreover, one who has used The Bat! 3.x might well
wonder why this "service" is only available for users of 4.x. Even
with 3.x, you could receive Google POP3 (and now IMAP) mail (whether
direct from Gmail or over a Gmail-enabled domain like thebat.net).

So am I missing something? Yes, I also signed up for a thebat.net
account when I thought it was going to be a gateway for beta testing
or some vital service or aspect of the email client. After getting my
thebat.net account, I have not used it even once.

Art, I regret to say that it is not completely fixed in 4.0.18.2. I
keep my Search toolbar on the same line with the Menu toolbar. After
moving it (intentionally or accidentally), I cannot get it back next
to the Menu toolbar in 4.0.18.2. So I am hanging on to my 4.0.14.2/3.

By the way, this might not be such a problem if there were some way to
lock the toolbars. As things stand now, it is easy to move the
toolbars by mistake. That is actually how I first noticed this
problem.

I must respectfully disagree. Thus far, I have sen no advantage to
this bug. Like I said, the initial effect for me tends to be one of
displacement: "Hey, I was reformatting a paragraph, and now I cannot

Actually, something was reported - a "List index out of bounds error"
- and allegedly repaired in 4.0.18.1. But we have not been given
4.0.18.1 to confirm the fix. I would like to get 4.0.18.1 sooner

Thanks, Dwight.

I have just tested it on 4.0.18, and the same "List index out of
bounds" problem applies to this version as well.

Let me mention why this issue is significant. One might have a Reply
template that works most of the time, but occasionally you change your
style of reply. For example, you might be using top-posting and want
to change to top-quoting. As such, you might copy your signature and
move it to the end of the message... only to discover that you cannot
paste anything there.

I have tested it on two computers. I use MicroEd, and the same problem
occurs on both computers.

1. Click the Reply button for any message.

2. Copy some text from the new message, and scroll down to a new line
after the end of your new message.

3. Do a Ctrl+V (or paste by any other means).

I invariably get a "List index out of bounds" message. If this is
happening only to me - on both computers - I can only wonder why.

Agreed. At best, it is only partially fixed because dragging messages
to the Editor in the Windows taskbar simply does not work. However,
using alt+tab is a workaround that I did not try before, and
fortunately that does work well enough that I can limp along with 4.x
rather than revert to 3.99. :-)

I must say, however, that I am still a bit wary of the way in which
the Microeditor works. Often, after reformatting a paragraph, the view
remains somewhere off to the right (rather than on the left with all
of the text showing). Due to this quirk and others like the now fixed
copy-and-paste issue that I reported, I also wonder whether
reformatting of paragraphs can cause a loss of characters (although
that could also be just my hasty typing).

Just noticed the same now and looked here to see if it had been
reported. As with Thomas, this is a showstopper for me. The workaround
- enabling RFC-822 headers and then copying and pasting one message
into another message - is clumsy and time-consuming. Seems that I

am reluctant to start using 4.x again until I know for certain that
this issue is resolved. So, Jens, even if for some mysterious reason
Ritlabs decided to fix this bug silently, I do think that they should
have had the courtesy to at least send me a private notification that
the bug I brought to their attention has been fixed.

Don't get me wrong. I am not complaining. It would not surprise me if
this problem took more than a day or two to fix. I just want to be
sure it is on someone's list, and I also want to know when the problem
has been taken care of. For what it's worth, I did finally get around
to filing a bug report (after noting that a new beta release had come
out and this problem was not listed as fixed). The bug report is at
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=6827. So far - not very long, I
admit - there is no notation on that bug report that the problem is
resolved.

Not to nag or anything, but I guess it cannot hurt to remind. Until
the bug with copying and pasting from UNIX files is fixed, TB is a
dangerous email client for anyone who works with UNIX files. This bug
has already caused one major problem (and embarrassment) for me.
Fortunately, the cause of the problem - TB 4.0 - was identified
quickly.

Stefan, I prefer UltraEdit . It is
shareware, so you could easily use it for the purpose of testing this
particular bug.

It seems that the problem is connected with the line terminators. If
you create a file (or save a file) in UNIX format with Unix line
terminators and then copy text from the file into a TB 4.0 message,
then
_
The dog jumped over the moon.
The dog jumped over the moon.
The dog jumped over the moon.
The dog jumped over the moon.
~

becomes...
_
The dog jumped over the moon.
he dog jumped over the moon.
he dog jumped over the moon.
he dog jumped over the moon.
~

Presumably the first line is unaffected because it was not preceded by
a line terminator.

NOTE: This behavior is introduced in 4.x. It does not occur in 3.x (or
at least I never noticed it there, and I probably would have). It
certainly does not occur in 3.99.29.

Reverted to 3.99.29 with System Restore. Seems to have worked okay.

confirms this, can you please post a bug notice for me (assuming it

The only problem I have with Gmail is that the Web interface (which I

On further investigation, perhaps it's not the language or characters
that causes the problem. It seems that this is occurring with messages
that contain only an attachment (in my case, a Word doc). In other
words, someone has sent me the attachment with no cover letter. I have
saved the file to disk, but I don't want to delete the message - I
want to reply to it later with its CC list. Unfortunately, I cannot
just delete the attachment in TB. The only way to get rid of the
attachment in TB - without hacking the file systems - seems to be to
delete the entire message.

Not necessarily. Since 3.62.01, I cannot delete some attachments,
notably the ones with long names with unknown characters (derived from
unsupported languages). I can save the files to disk, but when I try
to delete the attachment, TB just ignores the command. Presumably this
is somehow connected.

P.S. Moderators, please don't mind the faulty sig delimiter. Gmail
seems to have screwed up something (stripping trailing spaces), and
apparently no one outside this tbbeta mailing list treats the problem
very seriously. So, trust me, there is a space after my two dashes
when I am composing this message and clicking the Send button in the

No, the problem occurs with much fewer messages as well.

Sorry, but I don't have anything to add to that report. It is as
simple as what is stated there. The search mechanism that works fine
in non-OTFE hangs forever in OTFE. The directories searched are
exactly the same. The only difference is whatever happens in the

Peter, this is simply not logical. OTFE is not a factor for you, but
that does not mean it is not a factor for others. Perhaps there is
some difference in the way you implemented OTFE or the message base on
which you implemented OTFE.

Maxim, if you cannot reproduce the problem, then my guess is that you
have not tried to reproduce it on a sufficient number of trial message
bases that were converted from Non-OTFE to OTFE.

In my case, I simply do the necessary backup and restore required for
the transition from Non-OTFE to OTFE. Then, when I go to search the
same folders with the same messages that I had successfully searched
in Non-OTFE, my OTFE search hangs interminably. This indicates to me
that the problem is definitely OTFE-related. Of course, it might be
due to some problem with the backup-restore process, but even then, it
is still OTFE related simply because this is the way we are instructed
to migrate to OTFE.

Thanks, but you are way off the mark. I have tested this on three
different machines, all with plenty of available RAM, fast hard drive,
etc. Nothing you mention can explain why the same search runs smoothly
and fast in non-OTFE and hangs endlessly in OTFE. In each of my
experiments on three different machines, it is the same directory that
I am searching on the same machine. The only difference is OTFE versus
non-OTFE.

OTFE is supposed to run with little or no discernible slow-down in
performance. At least that is how it is advertised, and that is the
only way it could sell. But that is not what I got. The OTFE search is
not just a little bit slower - it is often 1,000 times slower (if it
completes at all).

3.60.07 and OTFE Search

2005-09-01 Thread Jay Walker
Installed the new MSI (officially released by RL). Restored just one
account - with the least number of messages - from backup. Searching
the same directory with less than 2,000 messages in both Non-OTFE and
OTFE, here is the comparison:

Non-OTFE:
o Search starts after about 1 second
o Search completes successfully within 4 seconds

OTFE
o Search starts after about 3 seconds
o Search hangs in the middle for at least two minutes
o Pushing the Stop button has no apparent, immediate effect
o TB shuts down with AV notices and all sorts of hideous effects

In short, 3.60.07 seems no closer to resolving the Search problem in
OTFE than any of the other releases.

Unless the search engine stops hanging on OTFE searches that work fine

Agreed. But what is particularly annoying for me is that I bought a
license for TB Pro 3.0 thinking that I was going to get OTFE; and here
we are one year later testing 3.60.05 "Forerunner", and I still cannot
use OTFE because the search engine (that works fine with non-OTFE)
simply hangs interminably when I migrate (through a very clunky and
time-consuming process) to OTFE. Perhaps RL thinks that I will be
willing to buy a license for 4.0 just to get what I paid for with 3.0,
but I most certainly will not.

For example, I try to assign a shortcut to "Mark as Junk" on the
Specials menu. The shortcut that I assign appears on the menu, and
when I use the menu to mark a message as junk, it gets moved to the
Junk folder. But if I use the shortcut that I assigned (via the
Customize interface), nothing happens. It does not matter what
shortcut I assign. It just doesn't work.

I have no problem with the "Attachments" label. I wondered about it in

If this is so, then I completely agree. However, the label does seem
to match my theme, and it does seem to change its appearance when I
change the theme. So I cannot confirm this issue.

This issue is confirmed, and I agree entirely with Simon. My
recommendation would be to add the label to the viewer pane and to
messages that are opened individually for viewing.

3.60.02 "Forerunner" and OTFE Search

2005-08-19 Thread Jay Walker
It starts slow and eventually hangs/freezes. Stopping is still
difficult. After stopping a frozen search, I got some AVs and a
"System Error, Code: 1400, Invalid window handle". (And, of course,
the same search works fine when OTFE is not enabled.) Reverting to "No
OTFE".

So I hope that this "forerunner" will be the fulfillment of the 3.x
Pro promise of OTFE (that I bought quite some time ago and am still
unable to implement); but if so, it seems that you still have a long
way to go.

(By the way, has anyone noticed that the Mail Dispatcher does not show
special characters that are shown correctly when the message is
actually received? I noticed this in 3.51.10, but have not confirmed
in 3.60.02.)
