Thanks for your help. If it wasn't for this message, and the

But with your help, I now have my shortcuts and menu items back to

Thanks Roelof. That did the trick. It had been a long time since I

Move to Folder

2006-02-13 Thread Michael Acklin
Writen At Internet Time - @665, or Monday, February 13, 2006, 08:58:11

Hello All,

I did a quick search in The Bat! Beta list, but was not able to
   find anything very quickly.

In version 3.70.07 "Qigong", I lost all my customized settings and
had to redo them. So far everything is working fine, except the
   "Move to Folder" button.

I went to customize, Standard (Toolbar), selected Sorting Office
Form, and added "Move the Message to a folder".

After selecting OK in the Customize Dialog, I see the Button with
the "Move the message to a folder" in the Toolbar, but when I press
it, nothing happens. It used to bring up a menu that I could select
the folder I want to move the message to but as of 3.70.07 and
including 3.70.08, the button is, like we used to say in the Navy,
an officer button. (It doesn't do anything :) )

Am I the only one that this happens? And if so, what am I doing
   wrong?

   Thanks

After installing 3.62.09 yesterday and after a spyware scan this

Well when I see anything that says Trojan, I delete it. I had never
had this show up in the spyware scans before this morning.

What exactly is a.htm anyway? Now that I know where I came from, I

British Lion Roars

2005-08-15 Thread Michael Acklin
Written At Monday, August 15, 2005, 18:49:43

Hello All,

First off, I just got this from a friend and would like to share it
with you all. I am an American and this particular quote made me
start thinking. I know we have a lot of diversity on this list, but
I would like just to say that I agree with this and thought it
would let others know, at least for me, how some of us Americans
   feel.

BRITISH LION ROARS

Why does Tony Blair’s strength make me worry about my own country’s
weakness?

Why has the vigor and courage of England’s response to terrorism given
me second thoughts about America’s?

The contrast has been stark.

We were hit and they were hit. We acted one way and they acted another,
and their way seems better.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been a George W. Bush supporter from the
beginning. I believe going into Iraq was the right thing, and I
support our efforts and our troops there.

But I’m beginning to get the idea that we’re more talk than action, and
that we may lack an essential mental toughness, and that we are dangerously
bound by nonsensical political correctness. The cumulative impact of
these things is to endanger our nation and its survival.

As I have seen England’s leaders respond to the attacks against it,
I’ve been embarrassed by the failure of our leaders to respond with
similar resolve and candor.

At the top, the British liberal is showing more spine than the American
conservative.

No one is more proud of being an American than I am, and no one loves
this country more I do. But an honest assessment shows that we are lacking,
in our culture and in our leadership, and have apparently grown soft in
our prosperity and insularity.

We don’t know how to take a punch, and we don’t know how to put up a
fight.

The characteristics that equipped us to win the Second World War seem
now to be in short supply.

We still weep over September 11, while the British jaw clenches in
resolve. We lost 3,000 and are patting down grandmothers at the airport; they
lost 56 and are getting ready to shut down militant mosques.

Our president says Islam is a religion of peace; their prime minister
says militant Islam will not be tolerated in his country.

Our internees get ACLU lawyers; theirs are going to be charged with
treason.

Our president gives us a diversity lecture; their prime minister says
immigrants have a duty to support and accept English values and learn
the English language.

It scares me. Down deep, I just have the sense that they’re doing
things right and we’re doing things wrong. I wonder if their centuries of
repelling invaders and having to fight for their very existence has given them a
certain fortitude that our comfort and security have denied us.

Yes, after we were attacked we put flags on our cars and our president
talked tough. And, yes, we did go into Afghanistan as we should have
and we did go into Iraq as we should have, but after we got there we never
quite got the job done.

Osama is still on the loose, in apparent command of an operational
terrorist organization, the Taliban is still in the field and bloodying us, we
are presiding over a quagmire in Iraq and we haven’t figured out how to
keep a bunch of savages with bombs from blowing up our trucks and troops.
We’ve sent our troops out, Vietnam style, and tied their hands behind their
backs.

We’ve taught our Army how to build schools, but we won’t free it to
kill our enemies.

It’s almost as if, at the highest levels of our government, we’ve
forgotten how to fight. We seem to be all hat and no cattle.

Tony Blair said that people preaching militant Islam and violence would
be deported, if foreigners, and locked up, if Britons. He said those found
praising or encouraging the terrorists would be tried for treason.

Tony Blair said that militant Islamic websites would be shut down, that
militant Islamic bookstores would be shut down, that militant Islamic
coffee shops would be shut down, that militant Islamic mosques would be shut
down.

Tony Blair said imams preaching jihad would be imprisoned or deported.

Our president is insisting that this is not about religion, it is about
terror. George W. Bush is asking for tolerance for Muslims; Tony Blair
is asking for accountability from them. One defends Muslim leaders; the
other insists that they stand up and denounce their violent fellow believers.

They’re kicking butt, we’re kissing butt.
England is chasing down those who attacked it; we’re confiscating
fingernail files by the millions.

We’re randomly checking bags on the subway. And ignoring our southern
border. And winning hearts and minds.

The American response has been one of weakness; the English response
has been one of strength. It’s really that simple.

They’re fighting and we’re pussyfooting.

And that’s become obvious in recent days.

Sometimes you don’t realize how short you are, until you see how tall
the other fellow is.

And Tony Blair is pretty tall.

Looks almost the same but the columns on the IMAP are more spread out
than the POP view. Do you have the column expansion checked in
Preferences so you can resize them?

I just did that with my IMAP account as Allie mentioned before, and
made my view a lot more "viewable". :)

Ok Vili, I see what you are talking about. I tired the CTL-N with in
the IMAP account and nothing really happened.

Then I switched over to a POP account and on the Process Explorer when
I hit CTL-N the "Private Bytes History" jumped to 54 mb from about 3
mb. I have attached a screen shot.

Maybe you can make some kind of sense out of this, as I am no
programer. :)

Vili try this nice little program called Process Explorer. It is
basically a task manager on steroids. I have been able to troubleshoot
many applications and determine what the problem is. Sounds like you
have already figured it out, but this will show you more in depth
analysis...

Sorry didn't mean to really mess things up here. But as the
others mentioned and has been explained fully, I use the threaded
mode more with mailing list, including Dopus, to make sure I follow
the subjects and see the replies before moving to another subject.

And what I meant by following your message, basically was, I read
through all messages first and then if someone has not replied to a
question, I will go back and find the message that needed
answering, such was your case. But when I looked for your Subject of
"Accessing the Beta Site", I couldn't find it in the subject
headers. What I ended up doing was using the Search feature to find
your name and that worked perfect. :)

Anyway again didn't mean to confuse you with the references, as you
found out, we shouldn't change them anyway. But maybe you will be
able to see the advantage of the Threaded mode The Bat! uses. As I
said before, it helps a lot with mailing lists. And I too am a
novice with The Bat! and it gets better all the time, thanks to the
great group of people here on these lists. Still learning...

Hey Wayne, glad to see you on TBBeta. I know you from the Dopus list.
Anyway, I just tried getting on the Beta Site and had no problem at
all, but I didn't need a password or username. This is the url I went

And one last thing. Had a real hard time trying to find your message.
I thought it was a new subject, but in fact I guess you replied and

I have not had any problems with connecting to or disconnecting from
Fastmail IMAP using TB! I did try Alie's suggestion with adding the
commands "Connect to Server" and "Disconnect to Server" on my menu
bar. And that helps with correcting the number of messages read and
unread and deleting them.

I know this may sound dumb, but are you sure you have the correct
password entered in The Bat! As it seems like TB! is the only with the
IMAP problem. And also try to use the Connect and Disconnect from the
server to see if that helps with the "No message loaded". I have seen
that on occasion, but it was because I had something else going on in
the background with my DSL Connection.

Would like to see you get this working, Tony...

You are absolutely correct, Mary. I set it up and I watched the
whole process. I checked all the messages on the server (4) to be
downloaded and then I watched the Connection Center.

It showed 1/4, then 2/4, then 3/4 and finally 4/4 as being
downloaded but I only got one message at a time.

And I am making a note on your BT report as we speak.

Hi Mary, I am not seeing what you are talking about. I guess I have
never used the Mail Dispatcher. I always download all mail when it
checks the mail box of all my accounts. All I see is the CC working
and downloading the messages.

How do I use the Mail Dispatcher? I will look around the program and
see if I can figure this out. Just updated to the .32 version now.

You are absolutely correct. I just found the 2 F2's in the menu. Under
Account/Get New Mail, the F2 is defined as Current Account and the CC
is in the Foreground.

Under Tools/Get New Mail for all, the ALT-F2 is defined for all
accounts and the CC is in the Foreground.

And when you redefine the Hotkeys, things start getting weird. :)

This is really weird. I set up the Hotkeys like you said (Had to use
a different combination with the Check all accounts) but both times,
the CC was only in the background.

When I did the ALT-F2 in the previous message, I did not have the
HotKeys defined and the CC showed up in the forground but was
 checking all accounts.

When I did the ALT-F2, with the HotKey defined, it only checked the
current account, but the CC was in the background.

When I did the CTL-ALT-= (What I have defined as Check all accounts)
it checked all accounts, but the CC was in the Background again.

When one step further and the Bat Icon in the System Tray, I right
clicked and selected "Check Current Account". The CC came to the
foreground and checked only the current account. And the same with
the Bat Icon, "Check All Accounts". The CC came to the foreground and
 checked all accounts.

Am I doing this right? Is this the same thing you are getting, Avi?

Confirmed (Sorta)

Although I don't have the Hotkeys defined right now, I tried the
ALT-F2 and it did in fact check ALL accounts. The reason I say this as
with Cree's message I tried it and the CC did show up in the
forground. But when I tried the CTL-ALT-F12, I got a cross hair to do
a screen capture, which is a different program, ClipMate.

I will set up the CTL-ALT-F12 and what it does.

I don't know why, but how do you have your PGP/GPG set up to use with
 TB! ?

You are the only one that is automatically verified. Every time I get
a message from you, Martin, it has the little check mark GREEN on the
right hand side of the message header area. Right next to your rogue
 pic.

Everyone else, including myself, I have to click the box and PGP
comes up with the Verification History with the good sig or bad sig.
And then the little box has the green check or the red X.

It is only yours that I don't have to do anything. Just curious how
 you have it set up.

 Thanks...

That is what I figured with the OTFE. I got that far and did a

Well that was a bad experience. :( Been working for the last 7 hours

First I messed up and thought I had a recent backup. Stupid Me. (It
was over 8 months old)

Then I did a restore and that got me back to where I was as of 3 am

files. Everything fine for that part.

Then I started TB! and set up the OTFE. That went well. But when I

So needless to say, I did the restore again and am back to where I was

Ok, I want to install this version, the MSI, this time but I want to

My only problem is when I try to do a Custom Installation, there is no

I wanted to find out first before I did that.

Thanks again, Allie. I thought I had tried that many times, but I
could not get the assign button to come up. I had tried it everywhere
but the "None". After seeing your link, it worked first time. Just was
not putting the "N" in the "None" box.

Anyway thanks again for all the help.

I can confirm the "Good Part" of your previous message. That works
fine for me.

But I could not get the "Bad Part" to work at all. I tried in 3 or 4

Scrollbar problem in Account Tree Revisisted

With the new version of The Bat! (3.5.27), I revisited this previous
known problem.

It looks like it is getting better as I was messing around with it
just now. I believe the problem still exists, but not as bad as it
was. It does not do as the two things that Allie mentioned above, but
there is still some weird behavior. When I go to the bottom of the
scroll bar, it jumps to the bottom and there is a lot of "White
Space". But if I move the scroll bar up just a little the display area
will "Jump" into the correct position.

But at the same time, I have had 2 AV's doing this too. Here is one:

=

Access Violation at address 0005096E. Read of Address 0005096E.

=

Sorry I didn't get the address of the other one.

Just providing some follow-up on known previous problems...

Hello tbbeta,

I have added a button to the "Standard" Tool Bar, but it is only
text. What I would like to do is add an Icon instead and associate
  it with the action.

At the present time the "Move to Folder..." does not have an Icon.
Is there any way I can modify something and get an Icon to associate
  with the action.

If you go to "Customize/Standard Toolbar/MsgCtl and about 1/3 of the
way down the list of commands you will see "Move to Folder...". That
is the command I am wanting to add a icon to.

Hmmm I got a completely different action when I tried to Encrypt this

I was going to just forward the message to another account that I have
a key to, but when I checked the "Encrypt when completed" and hit the
Send button, nothing happened. I pressed the send button several
times, but no luck.

I ended up unchecking the "Encrypt when complete" and clicked on the
"Sign when complete" and everything worked as it should. No extra
'signing passphrase', just the normal one time confirmation passphrase
dialog. (I have my passphrase cached for the session).

But as I said, I could not Encrypt the message at all...

I agree. It is very confusing. But I did get my Standard Tool bar

I have recently, last night, reset up IMAP Account and am trying it
out now. As far as I can tell it is working pretty good. Much better
than when I used it last year. But that isn't saying much for me, that
is.

I mainly wanted to get the threading working properly with TBBeta so
I could follow the messages better and so far it is working pretty
good, as far as I can tell.

Will let you know with more experimenting.

And if anyone wants a gmail account, please let me know also. I

They keep adding the invites every time I send one out. And to
keep this off-list, just send me a private message to

BTW they have it all set up with POP3 use and I use The Bat! to
send and receive my Gmail Accounts. So once you have it set up you
never have to use the Web Interface. So much better now. :)

Thanks Mary for the info. As I said, I have missed a LOT between the
time I was on this list before. (About 6 months ago :) ).

I am not complaining about this, just reporting differences I see
between the version I was using and the newest one. And if they are
not working on the new interface (which is really nice), then I can
wait. But I will continue to report anything that I find different.

I downloaded and installed the 3.5.0.17 Pro version yesterday and the
first thing I noticed when reading my messages was that in the folder
with a message opened in the foreground, the Left Arrow (Follow

to this arrow becoming inactive and grey'd out when I got to the top

Not for sure if this is working as intended or if it is broke. But

Also will report anything else new when I see it.

IMAP Bug?

2004-11-09 Thread Michael Acklin
Ok is it me or a bug?

On my IMAP account I receive an e-mail in my inbox. I read the mail
and it shows on the inbox as being "Read".

I hit the "Delete Message" Icon and it is put in the trash folder, but
it shows in the Trash as being "Unread".

Is this a bug or do I have a setting not properly checked/unchecked.

Just wondering as it happens all the time and I can reproduce it 100%
of the time.

That is good to know, Greg. As if they are supporting TB! With AVG
free version plug-in. As I had mentioned before, I have always had
good luck with AVG, when McAfee would miss viruses. So I have stayed
with it for a few years now.

Not for sure about the free version, but AVG 7.0 Plugin works great

Have been using AVG for some time and works like a champ. Again, don't

I have to agree with you on the spelling. I took it to be "Other
 Settings" but not for sure.

Also when you select the option, it shows the "Work Days" of the
week. I am not familiar with German, but do they spell Monday the same
way as the Americans? This one is spelled "manday".

But over all I have had very good luck with the IMAP features in this
release. I do not have the sound problems I had before. I only have
one filter and it is working as expected.

I went back and followed the guidelines that others had posted with
their IMAP settings and I did set it up for "Fast Internet
 Connection".

 So far so good.
