I  have  been  searching  for  the  reason  for  our difference and have now
discovered it. The option 'Free caret positioning' has to be turned *ON* for
the behaviour you and Vili have. Mine was not turned on!

I  did  things  exactly  as  described above. If I use the down arrow before
Ctrl+A etc. it works normally.

Do you have the focus on the message text? At least, the cursor
should go down one line if you hit the down arrow...

I have an other symptom of the bug:

make an new message using as template only "%BLANK"
The cursor should be in the "To:" line.
Press TAB as often to put the cursor in the text part (or click ONCE
i the text part.
The cursor is now with some distance (5mm) to the top, but status
line indicates "1:1".
Press one single character.

The cursor and the character moves up 5mm (one line?) and status bar
indicates "1:2"

Confirmations?

Why didn't it happen when I followed Frank's instructions? Did my

I see what you mean. Others have confirmed it. All I can say is that I
seem to have a freak system on which it doesn't happen. It's like
someone reports a bug which nobody can confirm but it is persistent on
his system. Only the other way around.

I cur your reply even short (makred the line above and hit F4), so
that no scrollbar is there when the editor opens. The moment I go
down below the sig enough to exceed the window height, the first line
disappears and the scrollbar appears. It works as expected over here.

But then, I'm also using 4.0.18.6 now. Maybe the bug has been fixed?

This Mail is very short (I have more than 10 Lines left under it!), but
when i am in Edit Mode to reply to you, it's scrolling immediately after
i got 2 Lines lower than last Signature Line.

Maybe you like to try it again?

What do you call "small"? Here this behavior occurs even in fullscreen
which is 1280x1024 pixels. ;-)
