You can insert wishes in the wish list, by logging in to:
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/main_page.php
Choose 'The Bat! wishes' and add a new item.
First check whether someone has made the same wish, then you can
support that wish.
Wishes that are supported by more users are more likely to be granted
than wishes by one. And the system isn't smart enough to understand
that wishes might be the same.
And add just one wish per entry. Makes everything easier, both for
other users who want to add support and for the developers.

Repeatedly. :(

The list server has had problems. Bombarding it with the same message

The SMTP server in question was having problems delivering mail to the

sending test messages to the list. However, I think this one amounts to

For future reference and to anyone else who experiences this:

1) Check the online archives (or Gmane news feed) to see if it's
just you (which it usually is)

2) Check your member settings on the list web interface (you should
get a monthly reminder of the address for that and your password

3) If you are not suspended and you're still missing traffic -

I've done some testing.

My VF set to use advanced filtering looking for colour groups does NOT
auto refresh. Filter is set up like this:

 Colour is colourgroup1
 OR Colour is colourgroup2

VFs filtering on age (advanced filtering) or Unread flag (fast search)
still auto updates themselves though.

Can someone confirm? MAU, I know you use colour groups extensively, do
you use VFs filtering on these colour groups as well?

When receiving a message. The problem seems to be the VF does not list
newly received messages matching the search criteria.

When they are listed, any manipulation of a message is reflected in the
VF as well.

I have a filter looking for message sent by me or containing @canit.se
in the reference field. If matched, the filter assigns a colour group to
the message (yes, this part still works). Until switching to v3.0.2.1 my
VF looking for messages with this colour group assigned was
automatically updated every time a message matching the conditions
described above was received, now it isn't anymore.

Hope that made the situation more clear.

I am sorry for this maybe confusing bug report, I seem to discover
things every time I post to the list.

I just got the message I am currently replying to. It was correctly
marked with a colour group, the count of my TBBETA folder increased and
my TBBETA folder announced one unread message. The count of my mentioned
VF did not increase, neither did it announce any unread messages. Just
like I described earlier.

What I didn't notice earlier was that as soon as I viewed the message in
my TBBETA folder, the count of my VF increased, just as it should have
done when the message was received.

So, all I know is that auto refresh is only broke when new messages are
received and assigned a colour group by the NFS and the search criteria
is colour group. It might be broke in other situations as well, but this
is all I can confirm right now.

9Val, any ideas?

No, it's not when I view the message, it's when the status change from
Unread to Read. Sorry for that.

I am leaving my computer for a few hours, if my not to precise bug

Can't confirm.

I created a filter, which marks any message with a color group, and a
VF which filters this or another color group: It works fine here. I
receive nearly 300 mails and played arround with different conditions
- I can't reproduce it. But maybe 9Val can?

Automatically updating your VF at once when the mails are received.
Strange, as I said, I can reproduce on two different machines (both
running W2K, but I suspect this isn't OS dependent).

I suppose you are running v3.0.2.1? Your signature doesn't reveal,

I don't think either. But maybe? I'm running WinXP SP1. But AFAIK 9Val
has done something with updating (to get manual refiltering of a lot
of messages quicker) - this maybe causes your problem? Don't know,
maybe Ritlabs/9Val can say something? Or another one can test?

Strange. If 9Val doesn't succeed in fixing this in the upcoming beta,
I guess I should try a reinstall. If I couldn't reproduce on my second

There _is_ something wrong with VF auto-refreshing though. First refer
to what I write in my to
9Val.

Now look at the attached PNGs. Although Peter Ouwehand's message shows
as replied in my TBBeta folder (after moving out and in again) the same
message in my "To Me" VF doesn't appear as replied even though the VF
has been auto refreshed several times when receiving more replies to me.
The replied flag/icon appears to be updated only when doing a manual
refresh of the VF.

Your maybe right, there wasn't a lot of effort there. If he had added

This list is (obviously) not down, and neither is the US dollar: the
USD is merely coming back to reasonable levels. ;-)

The euro was designed to be en par with the dollar (why do you think
it has such weird exchange rates with all its original currencies?),
but it was clear that it was going to drop in the beginning (good for
Europe's exports, too). I converted my funds to euros at the beginning
of this year, and (mark my words) within the next threee months or so,
the exchange rate euro : US dollar will be 1:1.

Actually, I converted from Pound Sterling to euro, GBP being my
previous (winning) bet. The Pound will continue to loose against the
euro, but not dangerously so. It is still far too high for UK exports.
Anyway, I think (hope) that one day, the U.K. will join Euroland. But
that is not predictable yet.

I hope the moderator doesn't mind my replying to you on the list,
given the current low traffic.

If you follow the currency markets you will see that sometimes even
the fundamentals are not so important as the people's sentiment.
Lately, even though on the one hand there have been good economic
indicator announcements in the USA, they have done almost nothing to
control the fall in the Dollar since the equities market on the other
hand has been disappointing (Enron etc.). Even the Bank of Japan's
recent attempts to lower the value of the Yen versus the Dollar has
not done much to change sentiment. So on the basis of the above you
may be right in your forecast - well I hope so for your sake ;-)

On a more detailed level, it doesn't hurt to remember that by
definition at any moment in time the exchange rate represents the
views of 50% of the people who believe it will go up and of the other
50% who believe it will go down!

I agree it is more than just OT, and will follow the tiniest hint of
the moderators to move this to TBOT. My other reason to use this list
is that I am testing batpost.com.

CP> If you follow the currency markets you will see that sometimes even
CP> the fundamentals are not so important as the people's sentiment.

Yes and no. People's sentiments are part of the deal. If everyone
believes the dollar will go up, it will; and v.v.

But who the people that make currencies move up or down? It is not you
and me, we are jsut bystanders. Governments actively influence the
exchange rates by buying or selling according to mututal agreements -
this is how the European Monetary System worked until introduction of
the euro in 1999.

Then, there are institutional investors. The currency dealers, George
Soros being the biggest. These people move amounts of funds per day
that exceed some countries' GDP's.

For us, it is to read the signs upon which these two groups will act.
the easy indicators are, for example, interest rates. If the interest
rates in the US are very high (Reagan-aera), they will want to buy USD
so as to earn a nice profit from interest. Then there are economic
indicators.

CP> Lately, even though on the one hand there have been good economic
CP> indicator announcements in the USA, they have done almost nothing to

CP> hand has been disappointing (Enron etc.).

Yes, investor confidence is shattered, and the institutional investors
(this time I am talking about mutual funds and the like) are shifting
their capital to Europe. But there is another side to it. The US is
not out of the slump, and the high dollar is hurting their export
industry. They *want* the dollar lower.

CP> Even the Bank of Japan's recent attempts to lower the value of the
CP> Yen versus the Dollar has not done much to change sentiment. So on
CP> the basis of the above you may be right in your forecast - well I
CP> hope so for your sake ;-)

Let's watch the currency game. It is a very slow game, unless you
invest so much money that a few tenths of a percentage point mean
something to you. Don't forget the cost of buying and selling; my bank
moves the funds between the different currency accounts without fees,
but watch the spread in exchange rate whether you buy or sell!

Maybe I should become a money changer, it must be a nice living from
the spread.

CP> On a more detailed level, it doesn't hurt to remember that by

Yes, please move it.

This is a beta list. If there are no betas then the traffic should be
low and those who wish to have only beta related traffic as beta list
only subscribers won't take kindly to an off-topic discussion.
