Re: scrolling through messages
Hello Jeff, On Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at 4:09:24 AM you wrote: J I've noticed some annoyances when scrolling through messages; is there J an easier way I haven't found? Depends on your way of doing it *g* J I use the down arrow, but when there's a closed thread (as marked by a J plus sign) I must use the right arrow. And then I must take my hand J off the keyboard to scroll through long messages. Is there an easier J way? I don't know if this is easier but I'm used to use 'Ctrl+right-arrow' for this. This way threads got automatically expanded because this keyboard shortcut jumps to next unread message, wether it is depp in a thread of at top. J It's actually easier for me, anyway, in Netscape, where I can J use the mouse to read, to scroll, and to click on the down-arrow. I use the scroll wheel too if I'm to lazy to use the keyboard, works great. I don't even have to shift the focus from message list to message body for this (btw: I'm using MS Intelli Explorer) To use the keyboard for scrolling through messages I use 'Alt+down-arrow'. The negative aspect is you need two hand for this, the positive is you don't have to change the focus to message body or use the mouse. J I'd also like to see read messages become unbolded when read, even J when there's a message under them in the thread that's unread, as long J as the thread is expanded. that's not implemented I I for myself don't think it is necessary. There's a nice column 'Message Flags' you can activate (unless it is already done) in message list. This column shows a yellow letter when the message itself is unread and a white envelope if the message is read. So if a message has an envelope plus is is bold there're unread messages in thread. I have been reading this thread and feel sad at comments made by some. Will keep this short. Like some body mentioned about Pendulum, there is an age old saying which I am sure will be available in every language. And that is What you sow is what you reap I would also like to share the experience of revolution of the Internet 1. I came to know this because of Dierk's E-mail 2. I could not reach my in-laws and other relatives from India. Fortunately I was able to chat with a friend of mine in Singapore, who in turn called and kept me posted. The spy plane, and that is exactly what it was, was not shot down. It was involved in a collision caused by an incompetent Chinese fighter pilot, and it happened over international airspace, a fact not disputed even by the Chinese themselves. It was not over China. And equating this incident with G.W.B personally shows a complete lack of understanding of the American system at all. These flights have gone on for decades, under every single American administration, left or right. TF You scare me. You scare me too if you think that anything other than thoroughly traumatizing both the perpetrators and the societies that shelter them will stop this. The cost needs to demonstrably outweigh the benefit. Only then will the act not be undertaken. Anything less than a comprehensive and forceful response will simply encourage further atrocities. Re: Terrorist Attacks
Hello Stefan others on this TB! list following this thread, Tuesday, September 11, 2001, you stated regarding today's Terrorist Attacks: ST I wish anything like this will never repeat and the counter-measures ST will not bring new innocent casualties. Violence begets more violence, nothing was or could have been accomplished by this wanton destruction, and anyone relishing over it for ANY reason is subhuman and rather stupid, because the backlash will be profound and this may spell the end of protective havens for terrorists anywhere in the world. Cabins can be sealed and armored, a foot button could activate a silent alarm that transmits data sending jet fighters aloft to prevent the highjacked plane's access to critical targets, manual control of the plane could be inactivated and turned over to a remote source that would land the plane, airlanes can be rerouted and the use of vital airspace restricted, passenger lists could be double checked for verified identities histories (maybe fingerprints photographs will be required), tv cameras could transmit who is doing what inside airplanes; airport locations may be removed from vital areas (w/ high speed train links between outlying airports and the cities). The attack was ingenious yet totally incongruent w/ any worthy goal. The results will be quite different from those imagined by the perpetrators and those most responsible will be identified and hunted down. Their acts have made them become too visible, too destructive to remain protected. They will be eliminated. And the demand for experts w/ solutions related to Security issues will rise. But 4 highjacked airplanes four buildings destroyed (along with more below) hundreds or thousands of innocent deaths will resolve no issues relating to independence or sovereignty and the opposite is more likely as a result of this vicious, stupid and useless (if spectacular) act. Life will go on, measures will be taken, reoccurrences will soon become less likely and the terrorists will soon discover that having raised the stakes has put them out of their league. They have stoked the Hawk's furnaces and justified a higher budget for the military espionage. They have just given George W. the pretext he needs to take a hard stance and show what a Texan can do in a fight (which is much easier than negotiating). Pride in any identity that negates ones fellow man is self destructive. (Ask Tito). As for the rest of us, the living bury the dead and rebuild, which is as it must be. As the villagers I lived with knew, a todos nos entran (no one is bullet proof, and violence no es negocio - isn't good business). Inevitably, the pendulum swings back. I highly commend Stefan Max et al for having dedicated their genius to truly useful efforts. (Viva TB!). Re: TB! External Programs / RTF Editor
Hello Januk (TBTech), Raj, Andrew (TBUDL) others on both TB! lists following this thread, Monday, September 10, 2001, you all responded w/ helpful suggestions in relation to my query regarding TB! External Programs / RTF Editor, for which I thank you (and am following up). DH If I want full headers, I assume having them visible DH when saving would accomplish that). JA You have two options, the second one is better/easier. JA 1. Change the save template to: JA %HEADERS JA %TEXT JA 2. Use Tools - Export - .msg JA These files are plain text, but are RFC-822 compliant. The BUT is the key word there. Thanks DH (Question B): ¿Can anyone recommend a good, compact resource DH frugal share or freeware rich text editor that I could use for that DH purpose? JA What about WordPad that comes with Win9x? It should be in your JA Windows directory. If you haven't done too much pruning on your start JA menu, it could also be under Start - Programs - Accessories Sometime back it started telling me that Riched32.dll missing or damaged. It's not missing (in fact, I have it 5 places) so it must be the latter. I'd have to reinstall it. In general, I have a gut level antipathy toward anything M$, though. I am less adverse toward their free things, however (like the Window97 Viewer the one that lets Winword6 convert Win97 2000 files - and neither active the Word macro viruses). IAC, I'm taking a look at Atlantis Notetab first. Thanks again to all who offered answers.
