The bat absolutely wants d:\program files!

> What can I do now?

Have you checked the Registry? Could it be there are some leftover?
You mentioned you had the Program on D: before.

An other thing you could observe is, at what moment this msg comes up.
What have you done just a second before? If it occurs only when doing
something with *one Account only*, then you have probably a setup
wrong for *this account only*.

Have a closer look. Good luck!

UN Check the options of Check mail at start up and Check Mail periodically in

Right.

I thought you had set up different accounts for each user. In which case each
user (and the Admin) can set Account level password so that the Account is
not visible. (However I would suggest that you check if the messages are moved
if the Account is locked - Since I use the machine by myself have never needed
the password and never checked the same)

You can use the command line parameter "path/The Bat /checkAdmin" to check mail
of the Admin account. No Space between Check & Account Name. However if your
account name has a space in it then use quotes to enclose the name.

/send can be used for sending mail. Same rules as check mail

What you could then do is to use the Windows Scheduler to schedule Check & send at
regular intervals.

TT> As the options are

Your Wish is TB's command.

Yes. You'd have to do this.

TT> Does it exist a way to dialup and send/receive msgs w/o opening

Each account has it's own dial-up options that you can set. Just look
in the account properties. Go in the Network section and enable 'Use
account specific network settings' and go.

TT> It would be nice if there is a command line switch or some kiind

I'm not sure about this one.

TT> As the options are virtually unlimited with TB I'm sure I can have
TT> this done in several ways .

You could have a really great setup if you added a local mail server
in the picture and let the mail-server do the intermittent connecting.
The local mail-server would also enhance your flexibility and it
wouldn't matter from which account the messages were sent since you'd
be running your own SMTP server. There are freeware solutions like
Mercury/32 available and there's MDaemon which I use.

I think they're referring here to the administrator account, the

account that you will be using and you cannot hide other accounts from
view when using this account.

That's right.

You don't have the option to edit quick templates here. You have the
option of editing account template. Just place the template in the new

template should be OK.

TT> Does each account have their separate personal address book

Each account can have a default address book and an address book can

The bat absolutely wants d:\program files!

2001-11-22 Thread Cyril MALKA

Hello tbudl,

Well... I had my bat on a pc with a couple of HD. It was on D:\program
files etc...

Now it is on our server, on C: I used the backup-program to transfer.

Now... Even though it is on C:\program files etc... and working fine,
it still tries to do something on a D:\program files, that it doesn't
find. Then it gives me the following error message in a window called
"TheBat.EXE - No Disk":

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive
\device\harddisk\DR1

I have three choices: cancel, try again or continue. Then, after I
have pushed on the buttons it sometimes writes: "can't find d:\program
files etc..."

I have even tried to change the place of the account files in Account
Properties -> Files & Directories... No changes.

I have tried to uninstall, reinstall... Nothing...

What can I do now?

Re[5]: Let me explain my problem...

2001-11-22 Thread Tor Tveitane

Hi all...

Thanks again for the hints. Now I have started to set this up. I try to
write down what I have done, and I welcome comments, tips and corrections.
Please ignore any misspelled words, I don't use a spelling checker and
English is not my native language (but I write better English than German;-)

My TB is configured as Workstation with TCP-IP. Is that correct for my
scenario?

I have created an account named 'admin' with dialup connection set and also
some user accounts named user1..user4 I have filled in names and addresses.
One of you mentioned the term 'Master account', is that just a name on one
of the accounts or is it a special 'Default' account...?

Then I started creating rules for incoming msgs for my Admin account

Name: User1

Source folder Inbox

Move msgs to folder: \\User1\inbox

Filter String: user1 Recipient Yes

// are filter string comparison case-insensitive??

Name: User2

Source folder Inbox

Move msgs to folder: \\User2\inbox

Filter String: user2 Recipient Yes

... etc // this should do for incoming msgs..

Then I started creating rules for outgoing msgs for my Admin account

Name: User1

Source folder Outbox

Move msgs to folder: \\User1\Sent

Filter String: user1 Sender Yes

// are filter string comparison case-insensitive??

Name: User2

Source folder Outbox

Move msgs to folder: \\User2\Sent

Filter String: user2 Sender Yes

... etc // this should do for outgoing msgs..

I have set all accounts but Admin to User type and checked every restriction
for all users.

What does Options/Network and Administration/Network/Local Delivery mean? If
user1 sends a msg to user2 wil that msg be livered directly to user2's inbox
w/o going through the server?

How do I "Disable the 'check mail' options in all other user accounts."??
One you you mentioned that in a reply.

Now to your comment: "What you will then need to do is to have a standard
template in each user
account which includes %Account="Master_Account" (or whatever name you
give).
This will ensure that all mails created are put in the out box of the master
account."

With the above I need some more hints. When I open
Account/properties/templates I have the option to 'Edit Quick Templates' or
select any template type Tree node. What do I use here and what to I write??

Does each account have their separate personal address book and is the
address book named common for all accounts?

Does it exist a way to rearrange the order of the user accounts (in the
admin folder view)?

Du. This wil take the breath off the most of you, however I'm more and
more impressed with all the options of TB. My concern is just how I can
teach our local computer guy to edit/add/delete users as the staff changes.

Thanks again for hints and best regards

having cookie file indented?

2001-11-22 Thread Rick Reumann

I have a cookie file that has several long lines that are used for
random signatures. What I would lik those is for the signature to be
indented over to the right a few spaces. I'm not sure if this is
possible to set up without hardcoding in the line breaks with \n.
Is it possible to set up the template somehow to wrap the long lines
but still keep it indented over to the right? For example the
signature at the bottom I would like to maybe be over to the right
some like:

"If you go to a party, and you want to be the popular one
at the party, do this: Wait until no one is looking, then kick a
burning log out of the fireplace onto the carpet. Then jump on top
of it with your body and yell, "Log o' fire! Log o' fire!"
I've never done this, but I think it'd work."

(Even to do what I did above was a bit difficult with cut and paste
since cut and paste doesn't seem to keep the indent over. I had to go
in and manually hit 'enter' to get the indents.)

Any suggestions?
Thanks lots.

Rick

This requires someone more technically competent than me in the file
structure to answer.

However, what is really needed reminds me of a feature request I had
in mind and forgot to make. In Tools | Backup, change the option from:

[x] Folders with Messages

to:

[x] Folders
[x] with Messages

(Obviously checking the second has an implied checking of the first).

Several times I've wanted to clear out messages but retain folder
structure (at last count 65 folders, so not simple to recreate);
without an option to restore the folder structure (after deleting
everything) the only way of doing this is laboriously deleting
messages from each folder ... unless someone knows better :)

Alastair

You need to create the accounts first. Then copy the directory
structure under the "...\The Bat!" directory from your back-up onto
your HD. Start TB and hit crtl-alt-shft-L. It will find all the "lost"
folders.

DE> ¿ Does this mean the 2.0 is in C++ not Delphi 6 ?

I think it means to say that but it is incorrect in doings so. V2 is
100% definitely in Delphi 6. I suspect that 1.54 beta 10e is the first
public beta of the Delphi 6 build, but that's a pure guess.

As to the "dead animal" theory, the fact is that much of the feature
set slated for v2 has been added to the mainstream 1.xx series since
1.42. Version 1.54 may never actually be released under that version
number - IMHO we are deep into beta testing of V2 prior to its release
in January.

Umm now that you ask: I'm not sure. I heard that v2 will be coded in a
different programming language and just assumed C++, I guess. No false
rumours intended.

Wrong, v2 is not down, yet. The last we heard was, it will come out in
January.

In the moment they have some bugs to fix for 1.54. Considering that we
haven't heard much for more than 4 weeks I think they work like ...
hell.

We are accustomed to get a new version every few weeks - some
shareware is even updated every few days - so it is a bit
disconcerting to not hear from our favourite developers. ;-)

AFAIK 2.0 is work in progress. You can't just port a program like TB onto
C++ like that - it's a lot of work which the developers have to do. Besides
bug-fixing and everything else on the current versions, that is.
Maybe they won't release 2.0 as just another version number but instead
follow the unix-procfeedings: don't release a new major version until bugs
have been fixed and it includes everything that was meant to be included.

Some companies release a new GUI with basically the same code behind it and
give it a new version number. They will even go as far as making people pay
for that. I'm happy that TB is not one of these programs.

I notice Opera has the same problem (small company with everyone
expecting a new version every 10 minutes and personal feedback to
every query); that's a downside of being close to your users.

Conversely, I don't think people get excited about Microsoft bringing
out, or not bringing out, a new version of Internet Explorer or
Outlook Express. Especially as these are running into diminishing
returns; The Bat! is the same. After all, it's only an email package,
albeit a very powerful one.

(In fact, given Microsoft's enormous resources, one could wonder why
it takes 18 months to 2 years to get the next version of Office out.
On second thoughts, shhh ... I might give them ideas ;)

No, only the master-account will check mail. So, the admin will check
the mailbox, download all messages, which will get filtered into the
individual accounts.

When each user opens their account with their password, they can read
and reply to the messages (or compose new ones). In their templates,
there will be the %Account= macro, which puts the outgoing mail into
the admin's Outbox. After everybody has finished, the admin connects
again and sends all mails out, and receives all new incoming at the
same time.

I believe you have fixed times, like connecting manually about every 2
hours or so, correct?

TT> How is TB's configuration stored? In the registry, or in files?

Part in the reg, part in files.

TT> If I install TB accourding to instructions here, would it be
TT> possible for someone here to create such a setup and include two

I believe you should be able to set up three accounts: admin (main
account, with POP/SMTP data; this one connects), and two accounts for
just the users. It's easy: Account / New .. follow the prompts.

The second step is to create the filters for the incoming mails. This
will be in the admin account under Account / Sorting Office. click on
New... and see whether this makes sense to you. You want to filter any
incoming mail with the string "user1" in the field Recipient to the
Invbox of his account.

Then, you want to create Outgoing filters; any message sent with
sender field containing "user1" should be filtered to the Inbox (or
Sent box) of the user1 account.

Third, you need to set up New Message and Reply Templates in the user
accounts. Let us know when you are ready, we'll help you develop them.
It is really not difficult, and I am glad if this happens on-list,
because some lurker or another might be interested as well.

TT> Is it possible to copy (backup) a complete TB configuration and
TT> restore it to another computer (in case of HW failuer).?

Yes. I backup regularly, but I don't use the internal function. I just
had a HD crash and did not lose a single mail.

TT> Should I buy SecureBat to allow privacy to my users, or will this
TT> be ensured in this setup?

This is up to you. I wouldn't think your users discuss their
financials via a radio link-up, so I wouldn't think there is sensitive
data.

TT> Thanks a lot for all the tips I get, this is a great list!

You are the ones who are doing the great job out there in West Africa.
We just try to assist you in whichever little way we can. ;-)

If you set up the Master Account to receive mail at start up then msgs will be
downloaded at startup and filtered to the respective accounts/folders

I am not sure But its not too difficult (I am a Non-Techie) Use Account-New
in the menu to set it up. Then use the Account->Properties to configure. and
Account->Sorting Office Filters to setup the filters.
